My mom breastfed me, she breastfeeds my one-year-old sister, and she's going to breastfeed my unborn sibling. Oh, and guess what else? My one-year-old siss has never had vaccines, and my unborn sibling will not get them either. I was, unfortunately, vaccinated, but that was before my mom got smart and learned what that crud really is. My mom is against circumcision and abortion. Mom also supports natural homebirth, and guess what? I'm going to follow that same exact path.
I think many people have a problem with breast feeding because they are associating breast feeding with sex. News flash! They are completely different! I find it amusing that showing a mother feeding her child naturally is offensive to people and yet showing showing a farmer milking an animal for milk (Unnatural in itself) is not only interesting, but educational?!?
Watch out, they may want to take children off sesame street all together because they were born which implies that two people ha
Let's see. . . defecation is messy, smells bad, and can spread illness or disease. Nursing babies create no mess (not even a dirty bottle), smell wonderful, and are known to receive massive health benefits from nursing, as do their mothers. I can see how comparable they are.
Big Bird said it best. "That's nice." I love how the baby reaches up and carresses his mother. I have never seen a baby drinking from a bottle with that kind of pure joy and love. I wish they would run new episodes that included babies being nursed by their mothers. Is it the intensity of feeling that is so evident in a nursing pair that makes people so uncomfortable? I'm genuinely sad for people who have issues with breastfeeding. Who compare it to defecation and cursing.
Before anyone jumps down my throat, I am all for breastfeeding.
However, it's the ADULTS who are uncomfortable with it and who need to be more accepting of it. Kids don't care until their parents say it's "nasty and perverted".
(This particular show has the wrong target audience.)
Secondly, in this day and age, we rely too heavily on the media to teach our kids.
TV shows shouldn't be responsible for exposing kids to breastfeeding the 1st time, nor the sole catalyst for a conversation about it.
Urination and defecation is natural too.. lets get one of the players on the commode and have Oscar flush for them.. oO... this isn't the sort of thing I want to see in children's programming, just as inappropriate having some bimbo flopping her cleavage around or some rapper cursing.. I can't control what is put on the program, only whether my TV will be on to show it.
@MrAndersonForever1, there's nothing sick about breastfeeding. It's a beautiful thing for a mother and child to experience. It's kept the human race going for 100s of 1000s of years. Anyone with a problem with it can STFU.
@doyouknowwhoiam23, it's totally appropriate. Why is it okay to use breasts to advertise everything from aftershave to phone sex lines but it's not okay to feed a baby when no breast is even visible?
our country is so politically correct!! grow the heck up!!! breastfeeding is beautiful in everyway!! my draughts were feed this way and I loved every minute of it! I will make sure my children no not to let the modern world tell them it is wrong! why don't u haters complain about all those stars with boobs and butts hanging out their clothes and let a women feed her baby in peace!!
Pretty funny how our society says nothing about girls who wear cleavage-bearing tops, while "flashing" people in public, yet whine and complain when they see a woman COVERING UP HER BREAST to feed her baby. What's wrong with our world?
Most people in the U.S today hear the word breast and immediately turn into 10 year old boys. Scientifcally, women have breasts to feed their children. People just decided to make them a sexual thing. In almost all other countries, breastfeeding is the most common form of feeding a child. And you know why? Because they are much, much more mature than us.
and all the comparisons of this to katie perry! SERIOUSLY!!!!! not a single part of this woman's breast is showing!! breastfeeding is beautiful and natural!! Katy's or katie however you spell it, her breasts were popping out of the top of her dress. there is NO comparison. get a grip. breastfeeding isn't sexual in any way and no part of her breast is showing. Puh - lease!
Near are not sexual organs, but there are made out to be, so sad because babies benefit from nursing so much and its becoming an outdated practice here in the u.s.
I see nothing pervy about this, it is simply a mother explaining to the (child) audience something completely natural and normal. If anything, I think it's cute.
Sad thing is if they were to air this now there would be so many complaints! My son is 1 & still nurses for bed & if he wakes in the night. How did something so natural become such an issue for society? Yet women on TV have their breasts popping out & nobody says a word about that.
I am a mother of 4 and all of my girls were breastfed. Never second guessed it and I had my 1st at 17! It is the best nutrition for baby. My girls all know what breastfeeding is, and I wouldn't change my choices at all. Dont care what anyone thinks, I will feed my baby how, when and where I want. Dont like it, dont look. JM2C
Sesame Street did a newer one with Maria but even that one was quite some time ago, and the baby was so covered up. I think it's about time they do another one, aren't there any young pregnant women on sesame street any more. I haven't seen sesame street in a long time, with all the cable channels out there now PBS tends to get lost in the shuffle!
This is just the kind of innocence that SS of today has lost :( All of you are probably right that they would never show this on SS anymore...but...even so, we don't see her...area...in the clip at all! It just looks like shes cradling the baby...which lets us know she's a very loving mother to Cody :) I still want to see the segment where Buffy gives Cody a bath...if anyone has it - thanks!
I'm a breastfeeding mother. Breasts were meant for breastfeeding! Teaching kids that it's normal is the thing to do! And I wish that nursing uncovered in public was more accepted. We have sexualized breasts so much that most don't even accept what they were made for anymore. That saddens me deeply.
First off you don't see the breast or cleavage. Second breast feeding is natural. I saw the katy perry clip and her chest was about to pop out. Old school sesame street was sooo much better.
@NantoVision1 Actually, they did remove this clip from future episodes. They recently wrote an article about this on Yahoo, but YT is preventing me from posting it.
@filmfreakish Why should it be censored? You never see any part of the breast, it's totally appropriate for children and it's natural. I highly doubt you would of said that if she was bottle feeding. There is nothing wrong about breastfeeding & nothing about it is to be censored. This is such a beautiful video clip, I wish there was more clips like this now days.
@MadrigAltoGrrrl I'm pretty sure Katy Perry's bit was pulled off the air because it was deemed "inappropriate" even though to be honest it was that bad. I know times have changed, but if you're going to let a breast-feeding mother on the show, they should've let Katy on since she wasn't dressed as skimpy as most people though. Man times are different, people are more sensitive nowadays and it goes too far sometimes.
Now THIS... This is quality programming! WTH happened between then and now? Are we so small minded we can't even understand what our bodies are supposed to do naturally?
Now it's all that Elmo's world crud that make me want to tear my hair out...
I hate how a lot of today's parents/adults are so touchy about EVERYTHING. People would flip out if they even heard the WORD "breast" on a children's show! They may flag this as "unsuitable" or inappropriate", but I think children SHOULD know about this kind of stuff and realize that it can be a beautiful thing..not something nasty or perverted. We "spoon-feed" our kids a bit too much now and we don't even bother to teach them important things like this either. It's sad.
@steventean well shes breastfeeding look at the little kid shows of today that would never be on trust me i watch little kid shows about 5 hours a day
@smiliman80 Its sad that this would never be on television now. Its important for children to know that this is how some babies eat, instead of parents getting mad because a woman is breastfeeding her child in public, and they have yet to teach their child about breastfeeding.
I wish they would bring things like this back. Its important for children and people in general to understand that breastfeeding is a normal and okay thing.
@kjoberk Question is, what can be done about it? You're right on your note! But the whole country is just too much "police state" and not good judgement and common sense. This is the kind of stuff kids NEED today on a show like this, instead of that $&^%## elmo! I'd like to tell the producers get back to basics and fundamentals instead of "cute" -which is all elmo portrays, and computer generated graphics. i watched that show a few times lately and that's all that's on today on there......ICK!
That's awesome. It's too bad we're so touchy about stuff like that now. I think it would get pulled if it were a recent episode...people would deem it "inappropriate". To call THAT inappropriate when we let our kids see thing they *really* shouldn't see....kinda ironic. :-P I think we're a little backwards.
@lapetitefrancaise07 In Wisconsin we have to have a LAW saying mothers are allowed to nurse in public to prevent them from being thrown in jail on "indecent exposure" charges! A LAW...get real people! Geez! Use some good judgement and common sense! -If those words are even in the dictionary anymore. We don't need a LAW to tell people this is natural and normal. Why are generations today (I'm 38) so over proactive & in a "police state"? Start using common sense like our parents & grandparents did
@jfpinell The LAW on indecent exposure was universally applied to nursing mothers. So they wrote a LAW to exclude nursing mothers from the indecent exposure LAW so they will NOT be arrested. One state's law said a woman shall not expose her nipple to a child under the age of 15 years. That's a little long to wait for the first feeding, don'cha think?
@KinCollector (part 2) But what I mean is that common sense & good judgement should prevail, and you shouldn't need a law to allow for something like that. People should be able to reason and not be offended. We depend too much on law to guide us today instead of good judgement & common sense.
@KinCollector (part 1) My point exactly. I'm sure the 15 year old thing was written to mean something different. I'm guessing because many States still have marriage laws set at 15 or 16. Wis. is after 164 years still 16 and since it was unheard of to have a baby unless you were married back then.....Follow me? The same reason statutory rape is still 16 & not 18. The problem though lies with the wording. Some laws can get messed up because of only *1* word in the entire Bill.
