  • ouuuu! very nice

  • im lucky to be from paraguay! :D I went to paraguay on vacation this year. I had to listen to this all dayyyyyyyy!

  • Que orgullo a ver los comentarios elogiando a la música paraguaya, Esto es Paraguay señores!, música que sale del alma!

  • So beautiful !

    Greetings from Romania !

  • Very nice. A beautiful tune, beautifully played

  • @moscowguitarman Thank you! Yes, it's a wonderful tune, and I leaned it from listening to a YouTube video (can't remember who now).

  • @MarkHarmer Mark, I have been speaking to a lady from Morley Harps because my 7 year old daughter is interested in learning to play. By coincidence, a couple of days after I posted my comment on your video she gave me your name as someone in the Cheltenham area who might teach. Do you teach in this area? We are looking at arranging lessons...not immediately but in the near future.

  • which harp model is this?

  • @tobigforyou Don't know - it's one I bought secondhand.

  • Beautiful! I grew up in Paraguay, and my sister learned to play the Paraguayan harp while we lived there (13 years). My brother and I learned to play guitar. The three of us loved playing Paraguayan music together.

  • You make me wish I knew how to play, I love this.

  • that is magnificent. The harp has got to be the most beautiful sounding instrument ever created.

  • I've been trying to learn this on the piano by ear but it just doesn't sound as good as your version!!!!! :(

  • You have one of the prettiest haps I'v ever seen in my life :))

And gorgeous song also. Plus very nicely played.

  • Do you have this as a mp3 recording or anything of the sort? It's beautiful! :D

  • i simply love this music, could you pls send me the high-res link for this, i would really appreciate it, thx a lot.

  • Before I heard this song I was only somewhat interested in the harp, but now I know for sure I want to do it.

  • Some Russian romances sound rather similar. Quite lovely. This could also be something that Bach or Vivaldi could have written. Arabesque. Impressive instrument. Is it a chromatic double? Sorry, I can't see or determine.

  • brought tears to my eyes

  • parts of it reminds me of Uskudara Giderken.

  • Beautiful.

  • great tune. It really does reach my heart. Thanks.

  • I'm from Paraguay and Holland. When I listen to this I think ''Wow, I'm proud to be a Paraguayan''. Haha, beautiful, thumbs up!

  • Gee!!! I remember hearing this song since i was i child, but i never knew its name!!...I found it by looking for "la partida" played by inti illimani.. anyway!! thank you for the name and for this fantastic interpretation! ;)

  • I like your version, I am Paraguayan Harpist. Enrique Carrera

  • very beautiful, but your intonation is off. maybe it's the video quality.

  • @zhria0828 I want more pinkies!

  • That's very nice indeed.

Have you heard Mika Agematsu's Moliendo Cafe?

  • I read somewhere that the pinky finger generally isn't used when playing the classical harp. For a Celtic harp, is the pinky used?

  • @fortuitousnisa The pinky is never used when playing harp!

  • Comment removed

  • @zhria0828 Why? Just cause you don't do doesn't mean it can't be done! If someone is self taught and they want and can play with their pinky and sound good then why not?

  • Sounds Beautiful

  • wow. moves the very soul.

  • ----->>> On HarpMusicToGo /dot/ com, youll find Merry playing timeless, favorite songs such as Canon in D What a Wonderful World.

  • Thanks a lot. It is so beautiful... Astrid 5*

  • i know it as "Venezuela Walts".

i think that its origin is by Antonio Lauro

  • Lauro wrote some excellent valses, but this is not one of them. Perhaps you are thinking of AL's Vals #2 or 3? I can see the connection.

  • WOW <BBBRRRRAAAAAVVVVOOOOOOO

  • In your description, what you call slinkiness. you definitely mean slunkiness! Slunky is the word to describe this beautiful piece!

  • Nah, it's slinkiness alright.

According to the Oxford American Dictionary:

slinkiness: graceful and sinous in movement, line or figure.

  • Lmao. niiice man, love the dictionary drop!

  • Awesome..

    Simply.

In fact all your videos are.

Your words in the descriptions, your kindness, the video edition...

    Everything ...

    That's a bless.

  • Where did you learn to play?! My dad plays the Paraguayan harp, seeing as he is from Paraguay lol. He teaches it too, but it's too hard for me! That was great really!

  • wow

  • it's like turkish country music.. charming!

  • Thanks for that - I'm going to listen to some - you've got me intrigued!

  • in parts it sounds like Uskudara Giderken.

  • @MarkHarmer wao

  • what a beautiful sound, i cant believe..

    excellent magnificent

  • wooow the way you play you could tame the biggist of beast :)

  • Absolutely wonderful!! I loved it!...

If only I could play the harp as well... if only.. :(

  • what country is the harp originally from?

  • Paraguay

  • kayys cool

  • So beatiful...

one of the most gorgeous thing I've heard all my life.

  • jeez ive been playing guitar for good amount of time and i never understood the harp and its playability. its interesting and i like its sound though

  • Lovely! I liked it a lot. I haven't heard the original, but it seems like it's retained its original flavor. Very nice!

  • the best natural high..listen, close your eyes, relax, focus only on the music

  • That was beautiful

  • Excelente

  • I can't even play the spoons

  • harden the fack up

  • Very nice.

  • Mark, that is beautiful! I think I have the sheet music of that somewhere but it's too difficult for me at the moment.

I'm sure you know the music of Dr. Alfredo Rolando Ortiz; have you recorded any of his tunes on your Paraguayan harp? I love his music too.....

I've only just discovered your videos on YouTube and in my enthusiasm to hear more have tried to subscribe twice!

Thank you again for putting up this video.

  • That's really amazing. Good job!

  • the sheet music for that must be ridiculous!

  • Could be - although I learnt it by listening to a recording of someone playing it on the guitar, so have never seen the music!

  • @MarkHarmer

That is just amazing! You are truly talented! Well done!

  • i really like youre version of the song

    agradecido por la aclaración!!

  • Do you have a cd I can purchase? I sure would enjoy listening to it.

  • hey sexy beast

    of a man

  • Magnifico!

  • bellezza

  • It is veary good. veary relaxing

  • Really Nice!!!

You feel me to play it on my keyboards now!

  • must suck to change the strings

  • Hi! You're not wrong there - the back of the harp is solid so you have to reach up from a hole right at the bottom. I have never had to change a string (yet) so I don't know exactly how hard it is. Not looking forward to that!

  • @MarkHarmer

I'm not an expert, indeed I've never seen a real paraguayan harp, (I get my first this week), but wouldn't you just thread the string through the hole from the outside, push it down to a place inside, near the base where you can easily reach and tie it, (however it's done), then pull the string back up from the top, cut it, and tie it onto the tuning keys?

  • @lizlops007 It is easiest to tie all the bottom knots, then feed the string up through the soundboard, trim them, and tune them up.

  • ohh my gosh this song is so... so... so.. i don't know but you play it so nice I want to learn to play the harp for a very long time but c never ould afford one and didn't really want to take the time but this just gave me the extra boost I needed. I am going to save my money and get lessons. Thank you so much.

  • The "I can't afford it" is a excuse we all use. We have to realize that while yes, a expensive instrument does sound better, when learning the instrument, you just need something to practice on. It's when you're at the level of starting to perform for people that you move on and buy a more expensive instrument.

  • Excellent

  • very nice, very balanced.

    inspiring .

    makes me want to play

  • good stuff

  • That was beautiful!

  • i'm dying to pick up the harp after 24 years of procrastinating! i hope its not too late to start!

might try perhaps a 22 string lap harp to start.

    this is so beautiful!

  • I posted coment before stll enjoy your talent thankyou ps giong to build my own harp !

  • We came to visit this clip because my daughters want to choose an instrument to learn to play. This was an excellent clip in showing the girls how the harp can sound. I think it inspired them.

  • Thanks - and I hope they are inspired to learn! It's a great instrument. The Paraguayan harp (as here) is quite specialised - do have a listen to some others too to get an idea of the different types. If you choose an instrument that sounds good, it'll be more rewarding to practise on, and they will spend more time playing. You can always hire them too, if you're not sure. Hope that helps and good luck with it!

  • I want to play the harp... BADLY! But my mom wont lwt me because I am learning to play teh flute and cello right now. I think the instrument is very beautiful. How hard is it to learn to play the nylon strung harp? Also, what are good, regular prices on it?

  • As you already play an instrument, you will already have an understanding of how music works (notation etc). I don't play the flute or cello so can't say if it's easier or harder, but if you play the piano then the harp's quite easy to adapt to. Don't know where you are but a good small starter harp would be 800+USD - anything much less will probably not be worth buying. Good harps will always be easy to sell again if you don't get on with it. Hope that helps!

  • That helped SO MUCH! Thank you!

  • brilliant.

  • Such a beautiful song.

  • beautiful and awesome. By the way, does this harp has pedals?

  • Lovely Playing indeed

  • Absolutely beautiful, well played. Keep up the work!

  • Beautifully played!! 5*****

  • very beautiful

  • my wife is really amazed with your music. This piece's name is "Quiero ser tu sombra" (I want to be your shadow)It's a waltz, you are a very good player....congratulations!!!

  • Very very beautifull version, and what an incredible sound!

    Patrice

  • That's a fine looking instrument.

  • nice music to listen to. well done.

  • I absolutely love this piece. You are very highly skilled, and I can't wait to see what you play next...if you are taking requests, please play sad and soulfull. The haunting music can be so moving and beautiful. Thanks for playing this one!

  • please provide a sheet music transcript for this! i would love you forever ;_;

  • beautiful sound, nice work

  • I wish I could find a harp to buy that isn't $5,000.

  • You can get a small one made of rosewood for, like, $80 in a magazine I saw once.

  • If u are lucky u can find some that are $700 or less :D thats if ur rly lucky (paraguayan harp)

  • how much does renting one usually cost? or buying one used?

  • i wish i could play the harp : (

  • start learning dude...

  • I think that political opinions should be lefted out of videos conected with music so deply like this.

It is a sad situation... and remember your antecessors were slaves of mine antecessors, and NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO REMEMBER SAD MOMENTS LIKE THESE.

By the way I'm portuguese and I realy aprecciate your country, it is in francly development.

  • Can you add some more please? ^^

  • Absolutely beautiful. You are an inspiration.

  • WOW

  • that is soooooo good!

  • So beautiful. The harp is one of my favorite instruments

  • really nice

  • Absolutely amazing playing! Wonderful tune and beautiful instrument. Such an emotional moment. :.)

A Celtic harper from France. :.)

  • Does a paraguayan harp have the same kind of scale as a celtic or classical harp? Basically, the white keys on a piano?

  • What key is this in, and what is the progression?

  • An instrument from the days of Mythology and before.

  • If fate allows it, will you be my harp teacher?

  • listen to this on a set of bose headphones OMG Beautiful

  • A fine tune - I have a recording of this played on octave mandolin

  • Where can I buy a harp?

And do you play with your finger nails or no?

  • yes with paraguay harp u have to grow ur finger nails rly long :D

  • that's pretty neat, is that the best way to play?

  • im not entirely sure (im going into harp in a little bit) but its pretty hard to play with short fingernails. Unless they came up with something else, long fingernails is the only way to play. I heard they even put calcium to their nails to make them stronger so they dnt break when they are playin

  • IS THAT GUY A MIGIT?!

  • No - I'm sitting down! The harp is 6 feet tall and so am I! And I know where you live...

  • where did you find the music for this? i play pedal and lever and not paraguayan, but i'd love to try it! (are paraguayan harps sharped with levers or pedals?)

  • Hi there - I learned the music from hearing a band play it on the net and then arranged it for myself. Some new Paraguayan harps are being made with sharping levers as an add-on. Some Paraguayan harps have little wooden wedges coming up from the soundboard between each string, and you push the string against those to sharpen but most (including this one) don't have any sharpening mechanism - you just tune the string sharp. I'm playing in Bb with 1 middle C#

  • very nice mate

  • beautiful music.

  • WOW ! so beautiful thanks for that one!

  • to jest przepiękne, bardzo lubię tego słuchać!! bardzo ciepłe:D
