I just found one of these baby nighthawks by my mother's garage this morning, I thought It was near dead but when I got back from school, It was still alive.
So we took it to the zoo. It also had a broken wing. =( I'm glad My mother and I were able to get it to a rehabilitation center in time. They're so cute!
cute! I live in downtown Montreal and I kept hearing strange bird calls circling above my aprtment late at night. I finally spotted it and it turned out to be a Nighthawk. there are a bunch of them nesting on top of the buildings right here
It's ILLEGAL to own nighthawks, they're wild animals, you do know that right?
If it was an abandoned fledgling in need of help, then you need to take it to a nature center nearby.
If you have a wildlife rehabilitation license, or there isn't a nature center that's very nearby, then you can take care of it until you find a suitable place to release it. Make sure it can survive in the wild before you release it.
Until then, feed it small insects, like what she was doing.
These lil guys love to live on the top of flat buildings where I am from and there is nothing more cool (and haunting sounding) than when they make noise. It's hard to describe but the adults almost have a 'honk' sound and I'm unsure as to what it means, but I love these lil guys!!!
Way to go! Taking care of that baby. I learned a bit about them when I was visited by one on my daily walk for about 2 weeks. Found out later she had babies near. I made a video about it that I will post. Thanks for the video and the clear shots of the bird and taking good care of it.
Cute, I want it. :D

Nighthawks aren't hawks, they're members pf the Caprimulgidae family, they're nightjars, a very unique kind of birds.
