  • I heard Christopher Tolkien finished up one of his dad's old Middle Earth manuscripts. It's called The Children of Hurin, I think.

  • The most epic book I have ever read.

  • Where are the words at the end of the video from? I don't think I now them...

  • @simonsimon4131 They're from the Battle Of Gondolin.

  • How can people keep saying there's "No magic in Middle-Earth" when there are Dragons, Balrogs, Gods, Demi-Gods, Shape-shifters, magical artifacts, mention of sorcery, etc, etc, etc....

  • @JankyToe I've not heard it said that there is no magic - but all the magic there is in LotR comes from a select few characters called the Maia. Gandalf was one, Sauron another, Melkor yet another.

  • @DraumurionLawnmower I should correct myself there. Melkor was a Vala, similar in strength to characters such as Tulkas and Vanya

  • @DraumurionLawnmower I thought Melkor was the most powerful of them. Obviously he could be defeated by another Vala but I believe he was the most podent.

  • @DraumurionLawnmower They really don't say that Gandalf is a Maia. They only say that Gandalf and the other wizards were created to give Gorgoroth/Sauron some competition and to help the free people of Middle-Earth. Correct me if i'm wrong.

  • @krunske You're right, but Tolkein did specifically say the five wizards were Maia. They were servants of the Valar in valinor, and they get their "magical" power directly from the Valar. The one exception is Sauron, who was a servant of Morgoth, and is just as potent a sorceror as Gandalf or Saruman, but he gets his magic directly from the ring - which is why he is next to powerless without it.

  • @krunske Gandalf's original name as a Maia was Olorin, he has a role in the very early ages of the world as you can read in The Sillmarillion. In Lord of the Rings Gandalf himself speaks of being Olorin once. As for Sauron, he had been taught by Melkor/Morgoth himself in the art of black magic, so his powers have developed much further than those of normal Maia, but he remains a Maia nonetheless. Keep in mind the Balrogs are also Maia spirits, thus Sauron was never able to tame the one in Moria.

  • @hristoitchov Hehe, I know, I did read the book :P Only thing i didn't notice was that Gandalf was actually said to be a Maia.

  • @krunske It’s not spelled out in the Two Towers but it's mentioned in the Silmarillion

  • why they dont make this a movie??? :(

  • nice job man

  • 0:09 is in my book of Sillmarilion. The most silly and sadest death for me was of Hourin

  • Seriously... World of Warcraft music? WoW doesnt even HAVE balrogs...

  • @Powmoro It happens to have some of the most epic music created, too.

  • Could also make some decent stories from Ultima series of video games. =D

  • fuck, i was born in the wrong world. get me outta here.

  • @ilanlakan i hear ya

  • Would love to see the Silmarillion made into a movie but you would need another trilogy - 3 hours each to be able to effectively make it a respectable representation of the stories in the book. I think it would overshadow "The Lord of the Rings" pretty easily.

  • Isn´t that the WoW soundtrack?

  • whats that ? 1:04

  • @VeiGee1 Tuor looking upon the secret city of Gondolin.

  • Does the Silmarillion take place before or after The Lord of The Rings?

And also, in which order do you think i should read these books out of the LOTR trilogy, hobbit, Silmarillion and the Children of Hurin?

  • @rossapher24 The Silmarillion takes place before LOTR. Though not necessary to understand LOTR, I would still suggest reading The Hobbit, then LOTR and then the Silmarillion and Children of Hurin. I think everything would come together more easily in that order.

  • It was not World of Warcraft. Just Warcraft III...

  • Comment removed

  • @OBL1997 You mean 0:08?

  • @Todde23 Yes, sorry.BTW why the fuck did I put 2:12 ? :S

  • @OBL1997

The man in font of Ulmo is Tùor, the son of Hùor. In fact he's not little it is Ulmo who's giant on the picture !

PS : it is "Ulmo" and not "Oulmo"

  • @Fuinrandir Huor is the son of Hurin, am I right?Sorry I'm a little confused with their family trees =\

  • @OBL1997 Huor is Hùrin's brother.

The son of Hùrin is Tùrin.

    Don't worry it is a indeed a difficult family tree ! :)

  • @OBL1997

    I would assume it's Tuor.

  • @OBL1997 I think he's Turgon, the king of Gondolin...

  • @OBL1997

    It's Tuor.

  • @OBL1997 that's tuor

  • @OBL1997 I Think It's Turin Turamber. The one who finds the hidden city of Godolin.

  • @simkolkay no he is tuor, turin went to nargothrond tuor was in the chapter of fall of gondolin check it in the book

  • @nick67ification Yeah, it's been a long time since I read the book. Great story though.

  • @OBL1997 he is tuor

  • bless MR.TOLKIEN

  • LOTR is fantastic OBVIOUSLY, but reading the Silmarillion brings a whole other level to it. Not only that but it's an incredible "mirror" to mythology. This is the most epic book Tolkien ever wrote. Took the guy 50 years of writing notes and he died before it was finished. If you have not read this book do it. Stop watching this clip, go and buy a copy and read it. I've just finished reading it for the fourth time, and just writing this makes me want to read it again!

  • WOW!!!!Big LOTR fan but i have to read this book!!!!

  • Barrens! hell that brings back memories, im gonna cry

  • @bblack21 just saw tha whole video, call to arms!

  • I'm glad I learned latin.. The lyrics are all about war =) Adversa! Invadoria, desideratus fatum, desideratus bellum..

  • Where is the final text quoted from? I don't recognise that from the published version of the Silmarilion, so it must be from one of the earlier versions?

  • Turin did not look like that

  • great video!!!

  • Wow theme music haha

  • Awesome video!

I don't understand a word in the text at the end but Tolkien's language is cool as always!!

  • crwnv i agree with u m8, but a lot of the other stuff that is mentioned is also very important, and im sure if a trilogy would be made, a lot of the stuff would need to be included, for one thing the creation of the silmarils (basically the bacjkground info on why the noldor were in middle earth, etc), otherwise the separate stories would make little sense. further, one would need to tie the three stories together as well as make a link to the LOTR trilogy, (lay of luthien & fall of gondolin)

  • @nerzhul23 yeah, guess u r right, but that just makes it less possible for filming... if u want, read my response to feanordae, it sums up most of my thoughts on the matter, so i wouldn't have to repeat myself...

  • well this book really owns, if you like lord of the rings and hobbit and never read silmarillion well you know what to do now

  • This is much better than the others that just piece together clips from lotr. Of course if they could compress and alter LOTR into three films, I'm sure they could get a good part of this book onto the screen as well, but it would be a huge writing task. I also think someone besides Jackson would be better.

  • @unholyimage they could probably make a trilogy from silmarillion, with each part focusing on the 3 big stories - the fall of gondolin, beren and luthien, and turin turambar... but rest is far from real movie material, it's a true epic novel, not money-driven stuff like most of the stuff published today, which makes it a great reading, but nearly impossible to turn into a film!! u need the main characters, a basic plot, and the setting, and there's simply too much stuff mentioned in the book...

  • @crwnv

not to mention most of it is a bloody mess looking at it from an editor or filmwriter's point of view =P would be tricky indeed to film..like the bible in several ways

  • @FeanorDae well, it is the bible, for Middle Earth... :)

the more i think about it the more impossible it seems - the guy above said it right, a lot more stuff needs to be mentioned, as for the story to function... a nightmarish task for any director, and with little potential to earn money, it's far from possible as film... possibly in an anime version, just with english audio from the start, and then do some 100 or so episodes, covering the whole story...

  • @crwnv I think if they would make a TV series, it would be possible.

  • @MrLordoffantasy a few yrs back and i'd say it was impossible to do it properly, with the budget and resources at the disposal of the TV companies, but now, after seeing the trailers for the game of thrones, i think that HBO and BBC are near the stage where they'll be able to produce such a series in a way which will make the fans happy, and still draw new audiences...

  • @crwnv yes, BBC would be a great producer for such a series!

but I think they are not really ready to do this...maybe in 5 years or so

  • @MrLordoffantasy of course not now, i said they're near, but still, 5 yrs is a lot closer than never! :D and, actually, you were quite good with that assessment - the Hobit would be reaping the last of it's profits in that period, while the game of thrones serial would, by that time, probe the market and find out whether there's a big enough audience for such a TV show... now, if only some producers are listening in... :D

  • This is much better than the others that just piece together clips from lotr.

  • I can't make sense of the first word in tengwar

and the tengwa used in the second is Z with the tehta A above it

    ????

    Explain please...

  • brilliantly done.

  • Oh my God. That was beyond epic.

  • kek

  • Прекрасныи. :)

  • pics are out of order just so you know.

  • @peacecanhappen27 i did it on purpose...wasnt my intention to place them in order. ;)

  • @Todde23, oh, I guess I got confused by the title lol! sry.

  • @Todde23, ah okay, sry I was jw.

  • @peacecanhappen27 lol he made the vid, if they are out of order, he PROPABLY knows about it :P

  • the Sauron armor in the movie is completely based on the Morgoth armor from that Fingolfin vs Morgoth image.

Hey, ANY OF YOU GUYS who like Silmarillion, you should check the album NIGHTFALL ON MIDDLE EARTH, by Blind Guardian. The whole album tells the story of the Silmarillion. (its heavy metal, so not all of you may like, but its still worth checking out).

For the Fingolfin vs Morgoth battle fans, check the son TIME STANDS STILL...

  • @rogerpenna well, every song is not "heavy metal"...

  • I'd happily see the battles between elves and Morgoth, the fight of Fingolfin, the great city of Gondolin...

There are a lot of movies to be made, I guess.

  • I completely agree. The Silmarillion is incredibly epic and chock-full of lore (for those who can understand the complicated language).

However, ghostofgeek is right... this could not be made into movies. I'd settle for a high-budget miniseries, though :)

  • @DrRipper19, not one movie but each story (The Children of Húrin, Beren and Luthien, The Voyage of Eärendil..etc) could be it's own movie, and then it would be a movie series.

  • The hobbit will be out soon. And Peter Jackson is getting the rights to a Children of Hurin film. But i think they should leave this as it is. No film could ever encapture the magic of this tale.

  • my faves are fingolfin vs morgoth and morgoth before ungoliant

  • A beauitifull post!

    Thank you

  • I HAVE REED THE BOOK IT IS GREAT

  • YEAH, I REED IT, TOO! BRILLIANT!
