Thanks for your comment. The Sandy River is a river in the United States state of Virginia. Pretty sure thats what they are singing about. The music does come from a diverse array of influences. This is some of the first music of its kind put on record. Glad you liked the video, thanks for watching!

This is great. The tunes did come over from Scotland and Ireland, but the rhythm was enhanced by the banjo, an instrument with roots in Africa. The combination of these diverse influences is what makes this truly American music.

There are a bunch of folks out there playing "old time string band music". Most if not all know exactly where American bluegrass and country music originated.

Almost all the old tunes, in one form or another, started off in Scotland and Ireland, ended up in Appalachia and evolved still further.
