@leighia1 Actually it does work but you need to get rid of the oxygen in carbon dioxide and then compress the carbon into diamonds. Then you've produced oxygen and diamonds, marvelous idea :D
I always wonder what Daniel thinks about John calling him up randomly to do maths for him. They should get him in a video one of these days. I can just picture it happening about 20 times every day somehow :).
John, After watching this video I wanted to know my carbon footprint. Mine was 20 and the us average was 27. (I also used a different website than you, which could have affected the difference and yours was done in 2007) So I challenge you to find out what your carbon footprint is now, see how you have changed eco wise.
So... I'm missing something (I don't know enough yet). Wouldn't a lot of plants consume OUR carbon and replace it with oxygen that we use and then produce carbon, etc.? Is this not how nature should work? Um, but maybe there aren't enough plants to make up for ever human's carbon production... so can't we just plant more trees?
I know this is probably a stupid question that I will later regret asking...
@cocajola23 Not necessarily, there are tons of different kinds of nerds, all with their own nerd-talents and nerd-strengths. Daniel Biss' is math. John's is English. Hank's is science and music. See? Nerds aren't good at everything nerdy. They're good at their own section of nerdy, and they appreciate all the other nerds who have different sections of nerdy, so we can all help each other out on homework, or situations like the one in the video.
assuming that al gore does not have a magic digestive system capable of turning carbon into political gold, how would paying him get rid of your carbon?
Hahahahaha, I beat you. :) I attempted to check our house's carbon footprint and from my guesstimations as to what we do, I got like 7.5 tonnes a year. No, we are not particularily environmental, we just don't drive or fly anywhere a whole lot.
Hey John. I just thought I'd tell you about another page to calculate your carbon footprint. The cool thing is that this page also estimates, how many earths it would take if everybody would live the was you do (this gives you a better idea of how much you really use, I think)
Anyone else find the irony that 3 years after John uses BP's website to calculate how much he's destroying the environment, BP destroys the environment more than anyone has ever before?
Interestingly, 16x6 is not also the multiplication to calculate John's carbon footprints but also the amount of dorm-rooms in Culver Creek in "Findin Alaska"
@Arandomfigure Okay. Also, I haven't read any of John's books yet :( but I'm interested in doing so. Could you (or someone else) just tell me the genres and ratings (not how good it is, but like PG, PG-13, etc) of his books? I want to know if I could read it for school.
So, I still dunno what kWh is.. even though there's a thingy that says that it's.. something. But, it said that I produce 19103 kWh a year... I hope that's not bad. lol
I think the best way to reduce carbon emissions in the west is to have an immigration moratorium. Statistics clearly show the USA population grew by 100 million in the last 40 years and nearly all the growth was due to immigration.
The west could drasically reduce carbon emissions with a reduction in immigration and population and would have nearly stable growth in the USA with a moratorium on immigration.
Some people have suggested the opposite of the swimming pool thing where we put it in bags ast the bottom of the ocean where the extreme pressure and temperature turn it into a liquid. This is actually a terrible idea to me because there have been quite a few cases where hundreds of people have died because the lake adjacent to their town or billage exploded because of carbon dioxide build up and too much CO2 in the ocean probably caused the biggest extiction ever.
Ha! Me too!! I hate Al Gore. I've always thought that celebrities defy reality, and he proved me correct by lying to all of America just to get a Nobel Prize!! I deserve that Nobel for realizing this.
I would eat my own yearly carbon production if I could poop political gold after the meal. Sounds like a fair enough trade. I might even come out on top.
so I've never watched any of these before, you wouldn't believe how long it took me to backtrack...freaking 460 or something or other of these..I loved Paper Towns and my friend informed me of these blogs after I expressed the opinion that Mr. John Green's picture on the back of it was cute :] haha
but they are entertaining none the less...I've taken it upon myself to watch them all to catch up and to be in on the inside jokes and such...so. off I go. thanks :]
it's funny because Al Gor was wrong in his movie- an increase in temperature occurred before the increase in carbon release etc etc... (i believe there was a court case on this point?)
Using a song about Unions in response to a video shot in Detroit made me giggle. But more manly. Manly giggle. Miggle. Maggle. Mangle. No, wait...
Wow, in response to one of the commenters saying that he poops out a diamond... MAN, Al Gore must have the World's Strongest Sphincter. Like, he could kill bears with that thing. If he someone manage to convince one to...
OMG I just died laughing at the end and my mum is looking at my wierdly while my brother is doing an impression of my laugh. awesome blogs btw! im a new here=D
yep, its the best to give money to al gore for the sake of the environment. seeing as humans only release 3% of the carbon that is released into the air. But I do love brotherhood 2.0 don't get me wrong on that.
I think the energie needed to shoot those pools into space would be way too high and the rockets would produce even more carbon....but I heard this idea before
