Nowadays most men have a handful with just one wife, imagine having four! Polygamy really only functions in a strictly patriarchal system where the man rules and the women are submissive. I have really come to admire the Mormon's. I think /know there are abuses but that is found in every religion. The other marriage aren't-well, I wouldn't say real, because they seem real, just not filed that way. Mormons (LDS church) is so not pro polygamy they have done all they could to kill it in their interviews for members they are asked if they associate with polygamists and aren't aloud in the Temple if they do. I think this family should be able to live their lives. The parents and children are seemingly happy and safe and, unlike a lot of polygamist sects, the women do not seem brainwashed and have freedom. He is not taking young girls or molesting his children.

Nowadays most men have a handful with just one wife, imagine having four! Polygamy really only functions in a strictly patriarchal system where the man rules and the women are submissive. This family on the other hand is quite modern and the polygamy seems to be more of a cultural things. I have really come to admire the Mormon's. I think /know there are abuses but that is found in every religion. There is no abuse here and their children are thriving, Kody is a wonderful father and he is more attentive to his children than our father was and he only had three kids to deal with! The other marriage aren't-well, I wouldn't say real, because they seem real, just not filed that way. Polygamy is a crime to theUS and Freedom of Religion in the first amendment does not cover this situation. Why? the 1st amendment does give us the right do practice whatever religion we choose, but if its breaks a law like sacrificing animals and people, or POLYGAMY- it is considered illegal.

But the thing that really needs to happen, is for a federal law to be passed, legalizing polygamy.
This is not a state issue, whereas one state should be allowed to vote a thing through, for that state's particular tastes of it's people.

We all have choice. look at babies through a window, you can tell which ones are dark skinned or light skinned, you can tell which ones are male or female. The rest were given in marriage by a preacher that never recorded these other marriages as legal. There is no crime or breaking of the law here. In a marriage with one man and several "wives" the woman always get the lesser end of the deal. I'll have to slightly disagree that he respects them. From my end it seems like he treats them like 5 year olds. He laughs when they say how hard it is, for example. It also bothers me that the vast majority of people on the public dole are people who make babies without any thought and they have never been married once! Like I have stated, there are abuses within all sorts of relationships. I also have a problem with underage females being married to middle aged males, and the powerless of some females in a situation like this. But I am looking at this one family, I see that it works for them.

I think this family should be able to live their lives. The parents and children are seemingly happy and safe and, unlike a lot of polygamist sects, the women do not seem brainwashed and have freedom. He is not taking young girls or molesting his children.
