Maybe holes on a front edge of a wing can assist to make airflow abowe the wing more laminary and this way increasing "aerial quality" of a wing especially on high angles of attack?
I'we read something like this technology was tested on a modern jet fighters (but there were other kinds of solutions of course, like artificial plasma flows, controlled turbulence supressors and others)
it will be interesting to see larger and heavier model where this effect will show itself more clear

Did you actually get to hold this gold figurine? I'm just wondering if the forward , inside edges are worn some and the holes are elongated a bit. To me, this might suggest that this was part of a neckelace at one point, which would elongate the holes a bit.
