that Jesus doesnt understand the word...but that he would find it odd talking about his "spirtual life" because for him that is like talking about his "living life". Because if you have life you are always living. For Jesus if he has life, it is always spirtual. I dont know if this makes sense...but I thought maybe it would clear some things up for you! (:

They are already choking in it, about to pass into unconsciousness."
@levelfour Hey! I just wanted to point something out to you. i went to Rob Bell's website and here is something that was posted by Rob Bell about this video:
"In the Hebrew Scriptures there is no word for "spiritual." And Jesus never used the phrase "spiritual life." Because for Jesus and his tradition, all of life is spiritual."
I think what Rob is trying to say is that, with Jesus, all of his life is spirtual. Not
I'm just a Baptist farm boy guitar player, though I'm 60 and I have paid some attention to such things since I joined the church at age 9. Though, confused about why the 'young folk' are turning to this guy, I deferred to my lifelong pastor friend, who is more tolerant than I (sometimes). He's also got one of those dang doctorates in religion... He says: "Guess he ain't read John 3. What is Spirit is Spirit, what is flesh is flesh.
@Tatertot18 I listened. He may be smart, but he's nuts. Why should I listen further than the claim that Jesus somehow wouldn't understand the word/term 'spiritual' - Jesus understood spiritual beyond our understanding and differentiated between spiritual and otherwise many times. "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."
@levelfour Oh absolutely I agree that Jesus understood things that we now call "spiritual" beyond our understanding. I don't believe that's what he's trying to say. Like cmahon said, Bell is actually making the point you just made. It's sort of silly that we even associate things as spiritual because EVERYTHING is spiritual. I think he's trying to say that the association implies that there are things that AREN'T spiritual. And Jesus would claim otherwise. Out of context it's confusing though.
No, what Bell want to say is if we claim something is spiritual , then there must be something not spiritual, so we can call it that. But there are not, so for Jesus everything is what we called it "spiritual", and it's beyond our understanding
Having gone VERY DEEPLY indeed into various belief systems, I see a certain absurdity to the arguments, claims and attachments people have about these ineffable matters. That's why i like to insert the odd 'KUNTS' etc.!!. It makes me smile that most believers 'just happen' to ascribe to the faith of their upbringing and perhaps know nothing at all about such magical philosophies as Advaita Vedanta or Hermeticism.... KUNTS! btw swearing is a beautiful thing to do if done with love :)
In some traditions, mantra is valued as one method of quietening the mind so as to allow one to more clearly 'hear the whispers of the Godforce..' I myself practise such a technique: ("Kunts, kunts kunts kunts....")
Surely 'The Father' is really a poetic attempt to refer to that which gives rise to manifestation - and not meant to be taken to indicate a parent figure.... So much has been represented. The original statement "In my Father's house are many mansions" has been mistranslated to "In my fathers house are many rooms! The whole point of the statement is the seeming paradox which is meant to point at the holographic nature of 'the inner planes'... (Again words fail me...)
@cosmicjazzer But God being the father is an important aspect of Christianity. It adds the crucial relational aspect of his character, there is also the idea of the trinity within this, so he is not only the father but the son and the spirit, so another paradox for you :)
@omgshift111 We use what concepts we will to relate.. But ultimately anything conceptual is but a bridge to that which is beyond the conceptual. Imo of course. My own way of representing 'things' (though shared by many of course) is that creation is but a thought in the mind of The Source (the term I prefer for God!) and all matter is ultimately 'mental'. Actually the latter conclusion may be reached by logic alone!
it seems to be a relentless pathology of humankind that it always seeks to conceptualize, then fix that conceptualization, then worship that conceptualization! How do you really 'explain' what makes a symphony what it is? ... yes musicologists can break it down but what really makes it special is ineffable. It can perhaps better be hinted at through poetic language.... i believe Christ did make such attempts but they were made interpreted literally.
@cosmicjazzer You're cool, even if you call me a kunt ;) you know, Moses asks God who he is and God answers "I am." Christians call God God because we understand that 'he' is limitless and completely beyond comprehension. I think you'd like Rob Bell cause he is all about the grey areas.
@omgshift111 Actually, seriously, i believe there are many Christians who truly 'link' psychically and holographically with 'Christ energy'. The problem for me is when people take a somewhat distorted attempt to represent the unrepresentable ( I mean the Bible) as literal truth. It must be remembered that according to this book, selling ones daughter into slavery is fine but anyone who works on the sabbath should be KILLED - as should gay people!
@omgshift111Yes perhaps I may like Rob Bell... For myself, I prefer to study the living Christ-like figures: Those who have undistorted, easy access to other dimensions, who can perform 'miracles', who have refined their mystical abilities and who embody love. There are a few such rare souls around the globe but they are hard to find... And they usually disguise themselves too! They are sometimes called Avatars... Or you could call them sons/daughters of God I suppose ;)
@cosmicjazzer A further thought about Avatars (or sons/daughters of God): Having personally known a couple of such cosmic super beings, I will add that it is my opinion, for all sorts of reasons, that in the process of adopting human form they necessarily become somewhat imperfect. Thus while they should be listened to, they should not be followed as an unquestionable authority. Better to: "Be Still and know I am God." (The 'I-am-ness' is God... within).
@cosmicjazzer Christ-like people are good, though in reality we are all Christ-like, because we are all made in the image of God. Christ-like people are the finger pointing to the moon (to borrow from Buddhism) rather than the moon itself, and their desire is to draw people to God not to themselves, so if you really study them you end up studying Christ.
@omgshift111 I was using the term 'Christ-like' to mean of a type equal to Christ not just 'quite like'! I have reason to believe there have been many, many beings who have represented and embodied 'The Source' somewhat directly, Jeshua Ben Joseph being but one. I call them Avatars or Source messengers... I believe I have been privileged to meet two in my lifetime. Both have been able to transcend normal physical laws and exhibited 'magical' abilities.
@omgshift111 So what was really meant by 'Son Of God'? I would say a being who directly represents that which is the conscious, creative impulse from which 'the creation' arises (I really write very loosely here...). A son is a direct descendent. A grandson, niece etc. is not so direct! Son of God is a poetic statement.
@cosmicjazzer But in saying that Jesus calls us his brothers and sisters. We are all children of God; all direct descendants. And yet Jesus was different, human but not at the same time...? (you have 25 years on me)
@omgshift111 Well I suppose where I would differ from many people viewing this is that I consider the Bible to be a very unreliable source of information. It's a collection of writings from many sources which were then mistranslated, censored and edited many times! 'The Jesus Mysteries' is an interesting book to read.... (though I'm not claiming this book is wholly correct either!)
@omgshift111 Anyway Miss 20 year old, I wish you peace, love and lots of fun! Thanks for your pleasant and reasonable responses to my thoughts. (all too often on youtube, the response of someone who disagrees tends to be 'fuck off dumbass' or similar!!) Look out for my book, I really am writing one but it probably won't be called TITS...!
Don't any of you kunts know about the council of Nicea in which Christian teaching was totally rewritten? What's remained is mostly just political fodder for weak minds. Forget 'spirituality through concepts'! Find it in its pure form, within; above and beyond silly ideas inserted to appease or control the masses. You kunts! ;)
@cosmicjazzer Your attempts to goad are telling. You toss to and fro in your bed while Christ knocks at your door. You try to drown out the noise of your own heart... by mocking people's faith in Christ and God.
but it is written:
"God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles," I Corinthians 1:21-23
@whune Actually just to be fully serious for a moment: I sincerely have no desire to mock anyone. But I cannot help but smile when people try and encapsulate that which must surely be utterly beyond man's puny understanding into fixed concepts. you will find that 'spiritual experiences' the world over always fit themselves into the conceptual framework of the person involved. Therefore we should heed less the letter and more the spirit...
@cosmicjazzer Each to his own. I just think it's telling that you have some need to challenge the beliefs of Christians, in such a degrading way: either you mean what you say and are really that upset... or you're just pretending to be like that... Either way: you aren't at peace.
No matter how calm you switch your tone now.
What care you if strangers are deluded?
It bothers you that we believe; but NOT because you want to free us;
@whune Interesting comment and one which requires reflection on my part before I comment further! But I will say this: I wasn't seeking to degrade, just make a bit of noise perhaps, yes!
@whune In a limitless Universe, where anything is possible and all is love... 'KUNTS can only be received in humour! I might add that the title of my forthcoming book, which is all about transcending the conceptual, is called T I T S! This is a sacred acronym which stands for Transformation, Integration, Transcendence, Shine. Four stages of one way forward...
@cosmicjazzer ty I certainly wouldn't wish any less on you; but honestly: I do not believe you will be at peace; or feel truly loved; unless/until you forsake your pride and accept Christ as your Lord and Savior.
@whune Hmmm! I could never buy into such a idea, as much as I have experienced the psychic thoughtform associated with it - and it's very beautiful and healing...
Fook me! All this fuss about fookin fairy stories. If Jesus were alive he wouldn't bother with this shit! He'd be having sex with Mary Magdalene AND Peter!! You Kunts.'I am the son of go'd was a fookin poetic statement but you fookers have taken it fookin literally. Kunts! If God is bleedin THOUGHT then any fookin manifestation is the son of God - you kunts. Apparent objects are proveably nothing but mental experiences you kunts!!! Go out and have some fun!!!!!
@cosmicjazzer Your presentation betrays you. You are full of fear because you are suffering... because you deny God. The "fun" - as you call it - is distraction.. that you desperately cling to; to try distract your self from the meaninglessness of a life that is denial of God. There is place for sex; but only in the context of a marriage covenant (an analogical picture of Christ and the church (Ephesians)) otherwise it's just meaningless pursuit of pleasure... that never really satisfies.
@cosmicjazzer Hi. Please let me clarify: I don't mean to imply you'll be at peace if you adhere to boundaries of Christianity. I simply state that you are not happy because you refuse to accept Christ's atonement for your sin nature (that all humans being have). You could do the "right thing/s" all day... and still be suffering.
When we accept Christ and are changed... the vile things of life... loose their appeal. When you find peace... you no longer need distraction. Be well.
@whune I think the concept of Grace (a kissing cousin of 'being saved', I suppose) a beautiful one. But in my direct experience, such grace happens no matter what the spiritual orientation of the person. It is bigger than that! Surely God (for want of a better term) does not confine itself to only Christians!!! People of all faiths can experience a transformational moment in which they deeply surrender and from which time their life changes forever...
@whune I am not apologising! I AM saying that I do not take anything that is fixed too seriously in a world in which everything is clearly impermanent and moving. As for my motives? Well to some extent to distract myself... I believe all is humour, all is play.... i was rather hoping someone would call ME a kunt! ;)
@cosmicjazzer My apologies: "apologetics" is word for making logical arguments in favor of the validity of Christ. I wasn't talking about your action/s. I was talking about what I wasn't going to do.
@whune Any concept of God is surely but a joke. To think that God may be conceptualized. Hahaha! You kunts!! God is much bigger than any box into which you may try and fit it.
@whune In case you didn't realize my presentation was a parody... yet making a serious point at the same time.... Actually I have little fear and seek only to deny that which limits God through conceptualisation. The desire to put the ineffable into a box is most childish! The real nature of God is beyond words and was but barely hinted at in occasional, somewhat poetic statements in the Bible and elsewhere...
nothing is bleedin spiritual. If everyting is spiritual den why we have a word for spiritual - you kunt! bleedin fairy stories! conditioning. we absorb the religious shit like a fookin language, you kunts. what the fook do we really truly know. Kunts!
We must repent and believe that Christ Jesus died on the cross for the depths of our sins, but this will never happen to people that God Himself hasn't done a work in their heart.........................ROB BELL IS A FALSE TEACHER BECAUSE HE DOESN'T BELIEVE in repentance and faith in the SAVIOR of JESUS CHRIST
If you are right we die and turn to dirt correct?
if we are right, you go to hell and watch us !i!partay!i! for eternity while you are in mental and physical torment for eternity. Once ur there.. there is no going back. you WILL regret it. thats part of the torment, wishing you chose right. you can bombard me or my brothers and sisters on youtube, but no matter what you say, our faith is NEVER falling or giving in to your false beliefs. Amen..
well youll find out all right. believe me.. i know you wont but hey.
do you know how many actual facts there are AGAINST evolution? alot. enough that they shouldnt have in in science books. but they havnt come up with anything better yet so thats wat stays..
Darwin, founder of your evolution, denied his theory and committed to Christ before he died.
yet you people insist that he is right and we are wrong.
You people say.. Its 300 years old you cant tell who its from. or whatever.. well the earth is.. wait how many "billions of years old" and you expect me to believe the crap you say about it? right thats rich...
But the bottom line is. If you have heard the message we bring and you choose otherwise, its between you and God. You may wish 80 years down the road you listened but . hey.. its "garbage" so why?
2nd off Choosing top follow jesus is a Choice not a requirement. Atheisits have nothing better to do that try and defame Christ wherever they can, and if thats what you choose, go ahead. People like me will tell you the truth and you will deny it bringing up false evidence for your belief.
Please cant you see satans attempt to weasel his way into even comments on a youtube video?.. don't be divided in our diversity! its classic! See the bigger picture~!..
Rob Bell is trying to communicate to a dead world, a numb youth> where i came from.
Why are we all wasting time commenting with our biased opinions.
Go out and save some starving children, clothe the naked.. etc. Then you'll find God. Faith Hope Love. The greatest of these is Love. 1 Cor 13:13
I too am a leader/pastor of a Christian Congregation and I find Robs understanding and proclamation filled with grace.Thank God he is not a literalist or fundamentalist in his understanding of the scriptures..Any great piece of literature has the story and then the underlying themes that are real story the real teaching of the literary piece.Rob gets to that level, a level that is, not understood or neglected or dismissed by most of my brother/sister pastors..Thank God for people like Rob Amen!
His understanding is filled with gravy, not grace! Bell is a misguided man. Scripture's prose may differ but its intentions are literal and when parabolic, obviously so.
He acts as if humans are inherently deserving of God's goodness. This is found nowhere in scripture nor underlined in scripture. I pray that you dismiss this man and find solid teaching elsewhere. I am a leader/pastor also...and hope that RB opens his spritual eyes of discernment and repents.
you wrote: <<He acts as if humans are inherently deserving of God's goodness. This is found nowhere in scripture nor underlined in scripture.>>
I disagree. We are created in the very image of God!! We were created to be deserving of Gods goodness. Original sin is the fact that we believe the lie telling us that we dont' deserve God's goodness! Nothing we do gains us his favor and nothing we do denies us his favor (nothing can separate me from the love of god through christ)
@jtaylorcane We all "see through a glass darkly" (our flesh nature) any that thinks that their vision - or that of others can ever be an exception to this statement in scripture is deluded. Thus: any that devalues another in such a general way is also deluded. Listen to what you will; apply what makes sense to you. Always know we're all tainted with the sin nature; and while prone to error... able to see truth. Mr Bell isn't perfect; but he has many a valid point.
i love how all the arguments here are not technical but simply opinionated because most of you are too uneducated to understand the complexities of existence.
The most open eyes will never ever truthfully see an all-loving magician in the sky whom created life, love and everything beutiful yet for some reason allows evil to linger.
If I were a perfect God, and I created humans, and for some reason decided to give them free will, I would have never programmed the ability to rape a child as something they could physically choose to do.
most adults who believe in God do not perceive him as literally in the sky. What we do, even small children, is compare a world of cruelty and suffering with something we have not seen and say "that's not fair!"
Children in turn have the same potential to become rapists, so by extension of your analogy all parents should surgically remove their childrens' free will or else be imperfect parents (your idea of perfect is, I hope, not based on anything you have seen either).
through out history all people all over the world believed in some sort of god... this fact shows that it is natural for man to believed in a God or gods. Romans 1 28-23 talks about how God made it plan to man about his divine nature and eternal power. two attributes that are seen in every god people in history worshiped, they were divine and powerful, showing they all knew in there hearts that there was a divine and powerful God...
Why NOT quote Harry Potter? There is a moral tale behing the fiction. Or Star Trek (all power to the engines!) or Shakespeare (life is but a stage)?
Even non-theists still clammor for such works which re-tell moral tales. Unlike scripure their status as fiction provides their hearers with an excuse for not putting the moral law into action in their own lives. However, what is curious is that, in spite of the loss of moral action, the appetite for moral tales remains.
I find that critics of Rob Bell and the emergent church generally criticize on the basis of things they don't know. They critique and bash Bell and others based on snippets of text taken out of context and feel they need to because someone is thinking about something in a different way than they are accustomed. It is sad that people feel such a need to tear down something they will never put the time in to truly understand.
Where in the Bible does it say EVERYTNING IS SPIRITUAL? Contrary to what Mr. Bell teaches, it is not found in the New Testament, Or in the teachings of Christ...Most people, because of his Charisma, and his large dry erase board, which makes him look scholarly, will take him at face value without actually consulting the Word of God to see if he is teaching the truth... in this case he clearly is not, and by the way, in this video he yanks a scripture out of it's context to prove his point...
I snuck into a Rob Bell seminar the other day and learned why his followers all sound alike. They handed me a cup of koolaide and this step-by-step list of how to respond to any criticism of Bell:
Step 1: demand citations of instances of heresy, then run, or change the subject while running
Step 2: accuse everyone of being lazy religious zealots, assume they spend weekends shouting "turn or burn" at passerby
Step 3: use the "let's not argue" tactic to try to end it before truth is uncovered
Haha. Amen. Rob Bell along with every other Emergent "movement" pastor (Brian McLaren, Joel Osteen, Doug Pagott) are people who don't want to offend others, but guess what. The gospel is offensive. It teaches that men are evil by nature and that they are naturally children of God's wrath. It teaches this so that the eyes of men may be open to their sin and so that they may repent of that sin and believe that Christ died as an atonement for that sin. Rob Bell will NOT preach this truth.
It's because Rob Bell does not preach the central message of the Bible, which is the gospel. He's trying to alter the true gospel and turn it into a less offensive one but people can't be saved that way because the gospel is "the power of God unto salvation" (Romans 1:16-17) The gospel he preaches is not the one found in God's word.
You are clearly evil by nature and naturally a child of God's wrath. I wouldn't need to listen to anyone preach to recognize that? I recommend that you open your own eyes to your revolting sin, repent and accept Christ's atonement for it. Then you can be the new creature God said He would make you and you can leave this sniveling, judgmental, depraved, pathetic man behind! And you think Rob Bell is the reason the world is going to hell in a hand basket! Hysterical!
We are all evil by nature. And I didn't say anything about Rob Bell being the reason people go to hell. People go to hell because of their unbelief in God. I said that Rob Bell does not teach the gospel of Jesus Christ. You should stifle the sarcastic and not twist other peoples words.

@omgshift111 So what was really meant by 'Son Of God'? I would say a being who directly represents that which is the conscious, creative impulse from which 'the creation' arises (I really write very loosely here...). A son is a direct descendent. A grandson, niece etc. is not so direct! Son of God is a poetic statement.
cosmicjazzer 1 year ago
@cosmicjazzer But in saying that Jesus calls us his brothers and sisters. We are all children of God; all direct descendants. And yet Jesus was different, human but not at the same time...? (you have 25 years on me)
omgshift111 1 year ago
@omgshift111 Well I suppose where I would differ from many people viewing this is that I consider the Bible to be a very unreliable source of information. It's a collection of writings from many sources which were then mistranslated, censored and edited many times! 'The Jesus Mysteries' is an interesting book to read.... (though I'm not claiming this book is wholly correct either!)
cosmicjazzer 1 year ago

You kunts! ;)
cosmicjazzer 1 year ago
@cosmicjazzer Your attempts to goad are telling. You toss to and fro in your bed while Christ knocks at your door. You try to drown out the noise of your own heart... by mocking people's faith in Christ and God.
but it is written:
"God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles," I Corinthians 1:21-23
whune 1 year ago
@whune Actually just to be fully serious for a moment: I sincerely have no desire to mock anyone. But I cannot help but smile when people try and encapsulate that which must surely be utterly beyond man's puny understanding into fixed concepts. you will find that 'spiritual experiences' the world over always fit themselves into the conceptual framework of the person involved. Therefore we should heed less the letter and more the spirit...
cosmicjazzer 1 year ago
@cosmicjazzer Each to his own. I just think it's telling that you have some need to challenge the beliefs of Christians, in such a degrading way: either you mean what you say and are really that upset... or you're just pretending to be like that... Either way: you aren't at peace.
No matter how calm you switch your tone now.
What care you if strangers are deluded?
It bothers you that we believe; but NOT because you want to free us;
otherwise you'd speak to us differently.
whune 1 year ago
@whune Interesting comment and one which requires reflection on my part before I comment further! But I will say this: I wasn't seeking to degrade, just make a bit of noise perhaps, yes!
cosmicjazzer 1 year ago
@cosmicjazzer I'm not at all offended; but let's be honest our selves "you kunts!" seriously my friend... that's not degrading?

@whune In a limitless Universe, where anything is possible and all is love... 'KUNTS can only be received in humour! I might add that the title of my forthcoming book, which is all about transcending the conceptual, is called T I T S! If God is bleedin THOUGHT then any fookin manifestation is the son of God - you kunts. Apparent objects are proveably nothing but mental experiences you kunts!!! Go out and have some fun!!!!!
cosmicjazzer 1 year ago
@cosmicjazzer Your presentation betrays you. You are full of fear because you are suffering... because you deny God. The "fun" - as you call it - is distraction.. that you desperately cling to; to try distract your self from the meaninglessness of a life that is denial of God. There is place for sex; but only in the context of a marriage covenant (an analogical picture of Christ and the church (Ephesians)) otherwise it's just meaningless pursuit of pleasure... that never really satisfies.
whune 1 year ago
@whune My presentation is a joke! Marriage is a man made idea. Why bother?! The pure of heart need no such silly boxes....
cosmicjazzer 1 year ago
@cosmicjazzer Hi. Please let me clarify: I don't mean to imply you'll be at peace if you adhere to boundaries of Christianity. I simply state that you are not happy because you refuse to accept Christ's atonement for your sin nature (that all humans being have). You could do the "right thing/s" all day... and still be suffering.
When we accept Christ and are changed... the vile things of life... loose their appeal. When you find peace... you no longer need distraction. Be well.
whune 1 year ago
@whune why pick Christ? Why not Buddha or Krishna?!! ;)
cosmicjazzer 1 year ago
@cosmicjazzer Because all other faiths are about man working to reach enlightenment, thus God/bliss. Christianity is the complete opposite of this:
The Christian faith is about God coming down and meeting humans being where/what they are; and saving all that accept Him; in spite of their selves.
Other religions are about being enlightened/thus saved.
Christianity is about being saved; in spite of lack of enlightenment "for now we see through a glass darkly... but THEN face to face."
whune 1 year ago
@whune I think the concept of Grace (a kissing cousin of 'being saved', I suppose) a beautiful one. But in my direct experience, such grace happens no matter what the spiritual orientation of the person. It is bigger than that! Surely God (for want of a better term) does not confine itself to only Christians!!! People of all faiths can experience a transformational moment in which they deeply surrender and from which time their life changes forever...
cosmicjazzer 1 year ago
@cosmicjazzer I'm not into apologetics.
What you just brought-up is something you have to decide for your self.
But I say again: there's a reason why you came here and were saying what you were saying and how you were saying it;
and it was not remotely for "peace and love"
I believe that reason is you are not at peace.
If you believe you will find that peace in [any thing] well... then why were you here?
Is it just that... you could find peace any old time... but you just don't want it?
whune 1 year ago
@whune I am not apologising! I AM saying that I do not take anything that is fixed too seriously in a world in which everything is clearly impermanent and moving. As for my motives? Well to some extent to distract myself... I believe all is humour, all is play.... i was rather hoping someone would call ME a kunt! ;)
cosmicjazzer 1 year ago
@cosmicjazzer My apologies: "apologetics" is word for making logical arguments in favor of the validity of Christ. I wasn't talking about your action/s. I was talking about what I wasn't going to do.
whune 1 year ago
@whune Ah i got you!
cosmicjazzer 1 year ago
@whune Any concept of God is surely but a joke. To think that God may be conceptualized. Hahaha! You kunts!! God is much bigger than any box into which you may try and fit it.
cosmicjazzer 1 year ago
@whune In case you didn't realize my presentation was a parody... yet making a serious point at the same time.... Actually I have little fear and seek only to deny that which limits God through conceptualisation. The desire to put the ineffable into a box is most childish! The real nature of God is beyond words and was but barely hinted at in occasional, somewhat poetic statements in the Bible and elsewhere...

I too am a leader/pastor of a Christian Congregation and I find Robs understanding and proclamation filled with grace.Thank God he is not a literalist or fundamentalist in his understanding of the scriptures..Any great piece of literature has the story and then the underlying themes that are real story the real teaching of the literary piece.Rob gets to that level, a level that is, not understood or neglected or dismissed by most of my brother/sister pastors..Thank God for people like Rob Amen!
denalisfire 2 years ago

Nothing we do gains us his favor and nothing we do denies us his favor (nothing can separate me from the love of god through christ)
webbeccjo 1 year ago
@jtaylorcane We all "see through a glass darkly" (our flesh nature) any that thinks that their vision - or that of others can ever be an exception to this statement in scripture is deluded. Thus: any that devalues another in such a general way is also deluded. Listen to what you will; apply what makes sense to you. Always know we're all tainted with the sin nature; and while prone to error... able to see truth. Mr Bell isn't perfect; but he has many a valid point.

to what?
The most open eyes will never ever truthfully see an all-loving magician in the sky whom created life, love and everything beutiful yet for some reason allows evil to linger.
If I were a perfect God, and I created humans, and for some reason decided to give them free will, I would have never programmed the ability to rape a child as something they could physically choose to do.
dannyabboud2 2 years ago
Dannyabboud,
most adults who believe in God do not perceive him as literally in the sky.

Romans 1 18-23 says:
through out history all people all over the world believed in some sort of god... this fact shows that it is natural for man to believed in a God or gods. Romans 1 28-23 talks about how God made it plan to man about his divine nature and eternal power. two attributes that are seen in every god people in history worshiped, they were divine and powerful, showing they all knew in there hearts that there was a divine and powerful God...

oh, Paul again
So I can quote Harry Potter then for you ?
get it straight paul was only trying to steal the religion and make a buck
AtheistAtLARGE 2 years ago

It is sad that people feel such a need to tear down something they will never put the time in to truly understand.
jeffgavin1989 2 years ago

Step 3: use the "let's not argue" tactic to try to end it before truth is uncovered
noggenhed 3 years ago
Haha. Rob Bell will NOT preach this truth.
sKeyes89 3 years ago
Hi, I saw this DVD and felt like I learned alot?! Why is it that so many as I read above are putting him down? Could you tell me more? Deborah
rlsdstrick1 2 years ago
It's because Rob Bell does not preach the central message of the Bible, which is the gospel. He's trying to alter the true gospel and turn it into a less offensive one but people can't be saved that way because the gospel is "the power of God unto salvation" (Romans 1:16-17) The gospel he preaches is not the one found in God's word.
sKeyes89 2 years ago
Don't ask these people what to think. Find out for yourself. You will be so glad you did.
tonibmo 2 years ago
You are clearly evil by nature and naturally a child of God's wrath. I wouldn't need to listen to anyone preach to recognize that? I recommend that you open your own eyes to your revolting sin, repent and accept Christ's atonement for it. Then you can be the new creature God said He would make you and you can leave this sniveling, judgmental, depraved, pathetic man behind! And you think Rob Bell is the reason the world is going to hell in a hand basket! Hysterical!
tonibmo 2 years ago
We are all evil by nature. And I didn't say anything about Rob Bell being the reason people go to hell. People go to hell because of their unbelief in God. I said that Rob Bell does not teach the gospel of Jesus Christ. You should stifle the sarcastic and not twist other peoples words.
