There could be other variables that we dont know about. What is the memory speed used on both platforms along with the motherboard chipset which makes a huge difference on booting up and shutting down- that Core 2 Duo on shut down was hung up on something. You do a test with a clean install no other programs or apps on the hard drive to prevent hang ups like you had on the shut down sequence. Did you see all the bullshit that was on the desktop! Do this over with a reformat on both systems.

this test is not legit.. the athlon 64x2 only has at most 1mb of cash.. it is competeing with the intel pentium dual cores.. not the core 2 duos.. its like comparing a core 2 quad to a core i7.. the cpus are in different classes.. however. the amd athlon's the codename :windsor. have 2mb of cache and are in the same class as pentium dual cores.. he should be comparing a phenom II x2 to a core 2 duo.

I really think there something weird with the Intel side mainboard that you are using. You sure there isn't some kind of hardware conflict? are maybe different harddrive speed? 5k rpm, vs. 7k rpm are a 10k rpm.

Maybe you are running core 2 duo with speed step emabled, and it underclocked it-self. and extra 1GB RAM can make windows boot 1/2 faster.

And my core solo laptop shuts down is 20sec with 512MB RAM, so what is wrong with your PC? You running stress test + shut down with core 2 duo?, are you running core 2 duo with DDR 333MHz? and AMD Athlon with DDR3 1666MHz? and are you running core 2 duo with a PATA 1 gig sec and AMD Athlon with SATA 3 6 gig sec?

It can't be posible. 'Cause AMD and Intel uses different chipset, and the most of motherboards just works for one socket if is Intel socket that mobo works on 775 or 1366, if is AMD that mobo works on AM2+ or AM3.
