  • great tone, first one i dialed in on my axe and i love it

  • what pick did you use here? i kinda didnt understand it acoustically....

  • its crazy all these people saying it sounds nothing alike yet petrucci who plays mesa loves the axe fx 2 and is geared up with them pretty sure hes a good judge.i always think how easy it is to rite na doesnt sound anything alike when really they have no idea

  • DUDE love your videos some of the best on youtube! I have a question if you dont mind? Are you have with the standard or would you prefer to have the ultra? im trying to make the decision between the standard and ultra....im a very basic guy dont do anything crazy.

    CHEERS!

  • @jayman1986777 Thanks man, I actually have a standard and an Ultra, the video was made a few years ago using my Standard. I use the Ultra live now and have the stardard as a backup

  • Guys...its compressed crappy YouTube audio. Recorded on a camera mic.

People who are saying the Axe FX sounds too digital either A) Haven't played one, or B) Are trying to fool themselves so that they won't want one.

The Axe FX is an amazing piece of equipment. Do yourself a favor and try one out if you can.

  • it sounds nothing like a mk 2c+, sorry!

  • WOW excellent job :P I'm really digging that setting.

  • Holy shit dude that's pretty damn close. Great Job.

  • My mark 2C+ does not sound like that either but your sound is also good.

  • My mark 2C+ does not sound like that either but your sound is also good.

  • Is it easy to run out of memory with the Axe Fx standard?

  • The Axe Fx Ultra is even epic. Great stuff man... All the haters are ignorant they can't take the fact that a nice black box can create such amazing tones :D good choice in getting it man :D

  • @immortalsoloist

AxFx < Diezel VH4 or Herbert

  • @squirttilithurts Right..... You keep your point of view while I keep mine.

    Enjoy the music.

    Cheers.

  • i like how youre actually playing petrucci stuff to compare :D

  • Less boring talk, more action.

    What about some solid riffs?

The Mark II C+ is considered one of the best amps for rhythm guitar, and you just makes some random solos? nigger please...

  • People need to stop worrying about where the tone is coming from. Good tone is good tone. It doesn't matter how you get it.

  • Man, the haters are so friggin annoying. They are just saying this doesn't sound like a IIC+ just because they were told in ADVANCE tha tthis is Axe FX, but if they didn't have this preknowledge, there's no way they'd know it's not a tube amp.

Botom line, it sounds great. Wish I could afford the AXEFX though.

  • naah... jazz 3 is better ^^

  • Axefx is a great amp simulator but this is absolutely not a IIc+

  • Great playing man, no offense but less talk and more playing is better.

  • damn you play really good

  • thanks for sharing your patch man! gonna try those settings out. What do you think about the krk 5's? Loud enough for bedroom playing? Can't decide if I need the rokit 6's. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and think they may be overkill.

  • holy crap does that sound good, if only i had the money to blow on an axefx

  • I own a iic+ and I can tell you that does not sound like a iic+

  • @axelfatu thanks for the insightful comment, some things to bear in mind.

    1. It's on youtube, compressed audio

    2. It was recorded through the Isight mic on my Mac, not the best sound

  • @nhvigier no need to capitalize mac

  • @nhvigier As much as I want to like the Axe Fx, it's still too digital for me.

It is a convenient and versatile set-up. But I was apparently born with very discerning ears and just couldn't pick playing this over my Mark V any day.

    =/

  • @axelfatu

nothing beats a real tube amp

simulation software has been trying for 20 years and can't get it right

buy Diezel -- they are the best

  • @squirttilithurts have you ever tried the axe fx?

  • @axelfatu I own a Mark V, and if the IIC+ setting on the Mark V sounds at all like an actual IIC+, then this video most definitely doesn't sound anywhere close.

  • @JVM410ftw Well the IIC+ mode on the Mark V doesn't sound anything like a real IIC+.

  • @DexterKnows

I've never owned a IIC+, but I do like the IIC+ mode on the MK V. I use the IIC+ mode for metallica and the likes and it sounds pretty good to me.

  • @DexterKnows according to john petrucci the IIC+ on the mark v sounds better

  • sexysideburns

  • @69stringibanez Best comment ever

  • @nhvigier Yeah, if it was from a girl, unless...

  • OH MY!!! that sounds EXACTLY LIKE JP'S tone!! I've seen people with MK 2 C+...and they dont even close...

  • @RedBearTrading haha wow, funny thing is I just responded a few minutes ago to a post below about what picks I'm using, then you pop up and respond. To Metalus from the post below, that's Dave from Red Bear Trading, not only do they make the best picks but they have the best customer service around

  • Thanks for the great testimonial! I agree - Monica is THE BEST!

    Dave Skowron

    Red Bear Trading Company

  • What pick are you using dude? and props on the tone. It sounds AWESOME :D. Makes me want an Axe Fx even more now

  • @Metalus those are Red Bear Big Jazzer picks, tortoise shell color with standard bevel. best picks you can buy period

  • wow that sounds pretty good

  • Damn... I wish the same sound of the monitors could be achieved without spending thousands of dollars

  • Decent tone for sure. You've got Petrucci's tone pretty well nailed.

  • damn close, if i close my eyes i can be fooled by your sound and playing. is axe fx ultra really that good?

  • Thanks for the nice words man, I suppose everyone will have their own opinion but mine is, YES it is that good. I sold all my Mesa gear once I got mine, haven't missed it at all!

  • yeah? what about the other mesa model & other brand simulation? close? and the tube feel?

  • @sild123 the axe fx nails pretty much everything and does it amazingly well. feels remarkably like a tube amp!

  • @Cryptopsy666

they're $20 and yes they really are that much better than a jazz III. The way i see it is this, with traditional picks, they were down for me after about a day or 2 of using them, then I don't like the worn down bevel anymore. With the red bears, it takes me months before I start to add any real wear to them. I've been using the same group of picks from them since I first purchased them back in like February of '09. I got a few for christmas, highly recommend them!!

  • hahah thanks man, I make a conscious effort when practicing to try and be as efficient as possible, still working on it though :)

  • Damm I am sold with this Rig... is amazing... very nice playing my friend...

  • Thanks! It sounds much better loud and through a full range PA(and i'm sure it being recorded on the ISIght camera on my Mac didn't help in the audio department either, but you get the idea :)

  • Thanks for the comment Ed! Never used guitar rig myself so i can't really testify as to whether you could produce sounds like the axe fx. Fractal Audio Systems are supposed to be releasing the Axe-PC sometime soon so if you're on the market join the forum on fractal's website and keep checking...

  • Yeah, I just got mine a week or 2 ago. Still blown away, and man now there's no excuse, I gotta learn to play! Still a cool clip, man!

  • Thanks! You're in for a fantastic tone ride!

  • Holy shit!

I was skeptical of this Fractal Audio stuff at first, but your clip has convinced me. Now I can see why Larry Mitchell swears by his.

  • Thanks man, I love mine!! I've had it for maybe 9 months and still haven't came close to finding all the amazing sounds hidden in this gem!

  • Hey man, what do you expect other than bullshitty comments? It's Youtube after all! BTW: Could you post your settings please?

  • Check the more info and you'll see all the settings for that tone

  • do I even dignify you with a response??

  • Is axe fx hard to use?¿? Some people say that you should have programing knowledge and that kind of stuff...

  • Sounds awesome man! I friend of mine has the AxeFX Ultra and every time I hear it I cry tears of joy!

  • Awesome playing. Nice non-U2 display of what this sucker can do. I think I'm gonna head over to Ebay and ditch a bunch of stuff so I can get one...

    Keep up the good work!

  • Thanks man, endless supply of useful tones in this beast, you won't be disappointed, just prepare to spend plenty of time learning how to use it!

  • One question -- I love the AxeFx's sound, but does it have any USB or FireWire recording interface with ASIO drivers like the RP1000 or GT-10?

  • You rule for posting all the settings in your description. I'm about to try this now. Can't shred it up like that unfortunately but it sounds good.

  • Enjoy it man! I just updated to firmware 7.18 but changed back to 7.13 as the Mesa amps took a turn for the worse. So not sure what firmware you have, but that was made using 7.13(i think)

  • When you mean that the mesa amps took a turn for the worst, in what way did they turn bad? Great tone and playing btw. Getting my Ultra soon.

  • It may have been my ears, but to me the Mesa amps sounded a bit different after the latest firmware. There were some changes to the presence and depth controls, I haven't had time to really play around with them myself. I updated again since posting this and still find the tones a bit different but plenty awesome still!

  • nice...I can't wait to try the very same Red Bear pick and compare it to the Dunlop Jazz III XL blacks

  • lololol

  • f-him. he's just jealous because he can't play as well as you. ignore that asshole and thanks for posting.

  • hahahaha, thanks! i knew it would sooner or later that some of the famous youtube critics would start being douchebags.

  • Wow i must be mistaken, apparently you can only hear tone when you play chords. How do you expect me to take you seriously when you sound like an asshole?

The tone is a lead sound, i was showing what the lead sound actually sounds like by playing some lead licks ala John Petrucci. Maybe next time i'll just play a couple power chords to appease the all powerful anonymous youtube critics such as yourself.

  • lulz, you got owned. There are plenty of other vids, you knew what was going to be displayed from the title, so I don't know why you feel disappointed.

  • Can you record a demo of some of the clean amps, some effects, and also the Diezel Vh4 model?

    thanks!

  • Ugh, I'm so jealous of you, you have badass guitar skills and an axe fx unit.

  • you should just record the axefx direct, what kind of mic are you using?

  • Recording was made using the Isight camera on my Mac, no external mic or recording interface. I'm taking donations if you want to donate towards my recording gear fund? :) No money left to spend on any recording gear, everything went towards the Axe-fx.

  • Can the AxeFX double as a recording interface as well like what the PODxt does?

  • Got to love the axe! Sounds great, and nice playing ^^

  • I like them much more, yeah i probably wouldn't be able to show up at band practice with a pair of studio monitors so i kept the atomic just in case. But i do prefer the cab and poweramp sims in the Axe to playing through the atomic..

  • how do you like those monitors? ive got enough for an axe fx but cant quite afford the frfr speakers i want....will these things sound/feel good enough to tide me over till i get some serious funds?

  • They are obviously not the greatest speakers in the world, but i only have them at home for something to plug the Axe-fx into. They do a decent job, obviously doesn't sound as good as through a FRFR system, but i don't hate them. I actually have stopped playing through my Atomic 1x12 18w combo since i got them....

  • are the monitors better or just convenient? it sounds really good but between the monitors sounds and my computer there is alot going on.

  • really good mate:)

  • killer playing! i love my axefx toooooo

  • Very nice demo and some cool playing. I am still on the fence about the AxeFx, but, with vids like yours...it is easy to fall to the "I'm going to get it" side.

  • thanks man, it would be a lot easier to fall onto the "i'm going to get it" side if you could try one yourself. If you're a member of the axe fx forum post a thread saying you want to try one and maybe someone in your area would let you try it out! If your anywhere near NH, the company is based up here and they would let you try it out there.

  • Wow, that was a nice comment, thanks man! I'll try and put some more up when i've got the time.

  • Man, make more videos. Your vids are some of the best on the Axe, so I'd love to see more from you.

  • I completely agree... These are some badass sounds so please make more videos...! AXE FX is a just awesome!
