  • saw Springsteen open for the Beach Boys and Chicago. After that it was rock + roll history

  • will ALWAYS love this.

  • wow, this is the first time I heard the ORIGINAL version. It is great. The piano intro was cut in many their compilations albums..... they shouldn't do that.

  • basketball - in 7th grade totally awesome to that time - an absolute a time frame

  • wow 8 people disliked this, i hate people like that.

  • It is very encouraging @TheShekldon..that you feel that way at 14 years old..you are on the right musical track..I feel proud of kids like you that can tell the difference between trash and good music! Good luck with your music..Keep the Groove >>> Philip Fenech Managing Director BJ's Live Music Club/Lounge/Cafe Paceville Malta EU

  • I am 14 years old i am in a jazz band at my middle school and i am IN LOVE WITH CHICAGO

I dont know what happened, but in their later years they just did not make songs like this.

The point is that this is one of my favorite songs that they made, ESPECIALLY the beggining, I LOVE the piano then the trumpet! FANTASTIC

and by the way i wish they still made songs like this and not stupid rap or hip hop or even pop!

    WELL DONE CHICAGO!

  • Walking through the city of Chicago at night and listening to this beautiful song just brings a grin to my face. Love Chicago and BS&T

  • For some reason this song reminds me of my wonderful city New Orleans. I think it's the jazz sounding horns. Love it!

  • The Rock and Roll HOF should have a write in vote every year for we fans, so the peoples favorite bands can make it in as well, write in votes is right on!

  • re TomasTigre. Apparently you are too young to remember the Viet Nam war and how society finally figured out the government was lying to us. We didn't feel heavy-hearted as much as astounded that our perceptions had been so colored by blatant lies. When we saw the light it was the beginning of a revolution. But the revolution was not accepted by all. I would guess that more than half were PC and passive.

  • My number two all time favorite band; Number one EWF

  • This song reminds me of when I lived in Boston in 1978. Iknow this song is from befor ethat time, but it seems like songs had more longevity bqck then vs. today.

  • Comment removed

  • Ya know, instead of being so pissy about people asking him what time it is, why doesn't he just stop wearing a watch, especially since he thinks no one really knows what time it is.

  • @TomasTigre

Too funny.....what a strange rip!!??...It shows that people used to write songs about ordinary observations, because life was not so fucked up like now.....people didn't feel heavy hearted.....the country has problems now.....and the music reflects this day of political correct passive lifelessness....

  • hall of fame is sucking their own duicks...get over it..they are also bought (today) by vevo and sony so,, if the money isnt there then the hall of fame is regretful for their own diaper wetting...this band was tip and top back in the day...their songs ruled for a couple of years or more...the song Color my World ruled and anyone who was alive can probably sing it....

    ,,,,lol

  • one of the great full band syncopation songs of all time

  • 6 people dont know what time it is

  • @livelife768 Seven people don't really care.

  • ロバート・ラムによる厳かなピアノから、一転痛快ブラス・アンサンブルに!"一体現実を把握を把握している者はいるだろうか?"圧巻シカゴ

  • I've loved Chicago all my life. I played it when I was in a navy band in 73 to 76 and ever since. I saw them live once. The music will always be a part of my life.God Bless. Kenny Berglund

  • About 3 years ago I saw Chicago & the Doobie Brothers live, together. Playing apart they were both incredible but then they played together. What an awesome Concert! One of the best I've ever seen. About 40 musical instruments playing together and WOW, what a sound! What a shame that all of the new, rap & pop garbage doesn't even sound anything like a song like this timeless classic.

  • @Bigbluehawk2 I saw Chicago & Earth Wind and Fire live in San Antonio a few years back and they were amazing. In general I would have to agree with you about new bands sounding terrible, but I do think there is an exception. When I saw the Gorillaz live, they had a 7 piece horn, and a 9 piece string ensemble. There was between 18 and 27 people on stage all night, and a total of 42 different people on stage by the end of the nigh. They may not sound as classic, but they still sound awesome.

  • One of the greatest Rock bands from America!! F&*k todays crap!

  • Thanks RakyMaky!

  • best song ever

  • 1969. From the first album, and WITH the original intro! Didn't become a hit until 2 years later when the single was released. In 1971, Mom got me this little blue plastic transister radio. A song from that year will always make me think of it!

  • You guys really shouldn't really worry about the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. Chicago hasn't made it because the place is a sham. Read all the criticism of the place all over the internet. There aren't many REAL music experts out there who would say that the people at the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame know what they're talking about.

  • Sandra Dee Lawson.

  • this album's title would be great for a public transit authority, perhaps one in chicago...

  • this song right now is the way it was met to be played....CTA..

  • I hope these guys sell a billion albums. They deserve all the adulation, respect, and praise they get, and then some. Hell, I may go out and just buy a million albums myself. lol

  • This band turned me on to brass.

  • thy're not in the rock and roll hall of fame because they're not jewish

  • Does anyone else the trumpet solo played right before Robert Lamm starts singing was ripped straight from Dizzy Gillespie's "Con Alma?"

  • One of my favorite songs, and favorite version of the song with the great piano intro, of all time.

  • I think the sudden wussification of a once great band (e.g. the Terry Kath era Chicago --- the real Chicago)can explain the lack of rock and roll hall of fame induction...how can such a great band (Chicago Transit Authority thru Chicago five ) under go public eviseration and turn into a gutless prune singing wimpy uninspiring tunes....who ever kidnpapped the real Chicago please return them and give us the great inspiring tunes....somebody shut Peter Cetera up....thank you

  • @timminsvoices YOU AIN"T NEVER LIED !!

  • @timminsvoices You nailed it !!! Thank you !!!

  • politics people.....politics.....like mr farner sid....it's just about how big of a hickey you want to put on someones ass these days with anything as to how far you want to go and how high up the view will get. Terry Kath, Peter Cetera and all of the original members past and present should be acknowledged for their contributions to the music world.......hopefully someday.

  • @samboy1288 because it aint rock brother, it's so much more than that

  • Mark Farner of GFR said it best, if your not ready to kiss %#$# you're not gonna get into the R&R hall of shame.

  • chicago was such a cool band.

  • found it... here's my extended intro... thank you Raky Maky... for this and all the others...Zep,Zappa, Halen and all the rest... thank you

oops... forgot to mention Yes and ELP

    mc♪♫ ☺

  • I think Peter Cetera pissed off the committee that makes those decisions and the rest of them have had to suffer because of it. Surely Robert Lamm should be in it as a solo artist. My God! You don't write much better music than he does. The catalog of music he's written solo is mind-boggling!....and terrific.Take the ear plugs out, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and induct this powerful group. At the very least, Lamm deserves recognition.

  • @libralady1010 Don't forget Terry man! He was the soul of Chicago!

  • @MrCirrusMinor Point taken. Terry's gone but not forgotten...and he was the soul of Chicago, absolutely!

  • @libralady1010 Lamm is my favourite songwriter in the group.

  • Why did they chose to cut off the piano/brass intro in Chicago IX? I bought the LP yesterday, and felt a tad cheated.

  • @ffmenguc Same reason they chose to cut out the guitar solo in The Doors' "Light My Fire" for the ultra commercial radio versions. Because lame-o people don't have the patience to sit through good music.

  • 4 people need to get a better watch!

  • Bartok would be proud, lolz.

  • I LOVE THEM

  • Comment removed

  • I had forgotten all about the piano intro. Thanks for bringing it back!

  • Fabulous very underestimated group, Chicago, one of my all time favorItes!

I have bought this LP (yes, before the cd!) back in 1969.

Where have all the good times gone? Am I gettin' older or is the "music" nowadays 95% crap?

    Thanks for posting, RakyMaky!

  • @jetoloko I couldn't disagree with you more strongly. First, there is very little actual music produced today, and that which is, is far more than 95% crap.

  • @jetoloko

Agreed. This is music! The stuff out there today is "music." In quotes, because most of the stuff today is autotuned voices with no melody, and the same word repeated 8 times every phrase.

Nothing from the past decade can hold a candle to Chicago. Especially the past couple years.

    Chicago to the end!!! :)

  • Great! thanks for the description :)

  • i cant find the piano intro sheet music to this!!

  • Little Nicky! XD

  • At first it sounded like Art Tatum or Bix Beiderbecke mix with Debussy.

  • @n64wilbert --the intro actually reminds me more of Aaron Copland.

  • @elektrykalbanana Listen to 1927 song "In a mist". To me the 70s ruled with Jazz fusion,Funk and progressive rock. Did you know Scott Joplin's music was rediscovered and returned to popularity in the early 1970s with the release of a million-selling album of Joplin's rags recorded by Joshua Rifkin.

  • Three people really don't know what time it is.

Er, I mean three people really don't know what good music is.

  • @tesubcalle lol!!!!

  • Make that *four* people who really don't know what good music is...

  • I've never heard the version with the piano solo before- very interesting! Thank god for YouTube!

  • The version i have on cd does not have that piano introduction. Nice. Must be a radio edit.

  • Que de souvenirs ce groupe, what a superbe song!

  • Impossible to hear this song and not be put in an good, optimistic mood

  • it's 10:49 AM PST

  • hot fucks galore!

  • @LSA2013 very true man..

This song always gets me in the mood to get ready for work-today is no exception

Terry Kath is cool with the commentary in the background

    Ben

  • what time it is? It's 12:47pm est

  • @Superwoman2012 it is now 10.37 pm mst

  • If this a protest song then Mr. Lamm should just say "The Vietnam War is bad and I don't like it" instead of discussing watches.

  • I don't like it when people post the version of this thats edited. the piano intro makes the song much better

  • @LSA2013

Completely agree. Reminds me of that Charlie Brown song

  • @LSA2013--I know. I really don't like the edited, single version either.

  • @LSA2013 I so agree, or some post with a few seconds cut off at the beginning...same with moody blues...those two poems at the beginning and end of their epochal Days of Future Past wrap the entire album together...it's supposed to reflect a day in the life of a typical man (in the 60s...) :)

  • how is a band this successful and talented NOT in the rock and roll hall of fame?!

  • @samboy1288 Cuz they are still active as a band, REAL living legends

  • @samboy1288 WHAAAAT?? If Justin Bieber gets in the Hall ahead of Chicago, God help us all?

  • @samboy1288 Because the Hall of Fame is a joke.

  • @showbizpizzablog meh its finally becoming less of a joke now that its starting to show some love for heavy metal but its like, "ABBA over KISS or Rush? Come on now!" And I don't think Chicago has ever even been on a ballot.

  • @samboy1288 Exactly.

  • @samboy1288 too many line change-ups i think

  • @lightdragon53562 black sabbath are in there and they've had a ton of lineup changes... of course, mostly it's about tony, geezer, bill and ozzy and maybe also dio but the fact remains

  • @samboy1288 my theory is that there wasnt enough room to put in the section for chicago, but thats just me

  • @samboy1288 Ask Iron Maiden. They arent in it either. what gives

  • @12321Walrus they've been smarter with recent induction of the long deserving alice cooper, but they took tom waits over bon jovi... as far as soft-rock radio favorites go, chicago get my vote over the inducted ABBA or bee-gees

  • Robin is a mason, it's not about good, better best, it's about favoritism for the brotherhood

No masons in Chicago so far as I know

    peace :)

  • Comment removed

  • @samboy1288: THANK YOU...I've been trying to figure that out my damn self. It's a fucking shame that someone like Guns n' Roses (who were good in their own right) will probably be inducted this year before an outstanding band like Chicago who REALLY paid their dues in the music industry...and have yet to even be nominated!

  • @samboy1288 Something like this should warrant the firing of fools running the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and rights given to a more credible institution like the Smithsonian Institute. OH...but Green Day and Red Hot Chili Peppers are IN! WHAT A JOKE!

  • @romeroenrique whoa first chill out on the chilis i like them a lot! second off green day cant be even up for nomination yet it hasnt been 25 years since their first album... and nobody's been inducted just yet this year

  • Great song! Believe it or not, this is a protest song of the Vietnam war.

  • chicago is awesome \o/
