  • Thanks for the demo! Wondering how it sounds with headphones plugged in. I think at thrift stores they'd prefer that I use headphones with such a thing. Seems like a great thing to have when crate digging, especially when I'm finding some gems at a thrift store or in the crates at a record shop, but see that they are asking $1.99 or more per LP. Being able to listen to a few tracks would be a great way to keep from wasting my money on LPs that are duds.

  • Are vinyls supposed to wobble up and down? I'm new to this

  • @HaCkErGDS The only way I can interpret you is if you're talking about a warped record. Records are pressed flat and should play flat, if you play warped records on your turntable not only will they sound bad yet they'll wear your needle down. Warped records can be flattened however that can be tricky to do.

  • What is a good vinyl player for a low price and good/decent sound quality? I just need one to listen, don't care about sampling and digitalizing.

  • can you scratch to song off of you computer on turntables, or do you always have to have a record?

  • @briansredd! i got this as a gift and thought for sure it was broken when the speaker wasn't working. but your explanation cleared everything up for me and it's wonderful now! much better than any explanation the company could give (in a non-timely manner) thanks so much!

  • You can hook up computer speakers thru the headphone jack (I have the Logitech Z313's hooked up to mine- around $35) & get a BIG sound with decent bass even.

The needle that comes with this is a sapphire needle. The company LP GEAR stocks a diamond needle replacement (which also fits the Vestax Handy Trax) for an improved sound quality.

  • Do you have problems playing 12inch vinyl records on this turntable? I heard the pitch automatically fluctuates, have you come across that problem?

  • @DWilkins82 I even noticed that when I played with this model at a record shop that had it for listening booth purpose..i was like, whoa..what's up with this baby! I thought it was just because it was heavily used..?

  • ITS CUTE lol....cool guy

  • is the needle good?

  • How does the Numark PT-01 compare to the Vestax Handy Trax?

    Does anyone know?

  • does this have a ipod plugin

  • i wonder if you can use this on an airplane?

  • you can by them at Amoeba records in LA.

  • I love the suprize.. haha then again, I hate wasting money on wack records lol

  • Hey dude, is the sound quality off it any good? I'm looking to use it for sampling to a MPC through the rcas. would you recommend it for that?

    cheers

  • @gothicck it works good for sampling but DO NOT BACK QUE OR SCRATCH ON IT! the motor is really crap and will die. (I've had 2 of em already both died with in a year)

  • What record is that. Sounds good

  • Ahh this is a great track. It's Inner City (Kevin Saunderson) with Do You Love What You Feel. The album this is off of is Big Fun (which believe it or not, was by some considered to be the first Techno album)

  • @briansredd Wow lol

  • @briansredd Have you heard of Kraftwerk

  • Oh yeah. They did crazy stuff even back in the 60's. then there's Hot Butter - Popcorn from 1971 that just reeks of techno.

Thing is, Techno was originally called Detroit Techno. It was a more synth sounding Chicago House with better overall production quality.

  • @briansredd Awesome. I love Their Music

  • @supreme60s hahaha noooooooo one has eeevvvvverrrrrr heard of kraaaaffftttwwerrrrrkkk (sarcastic voice)

  • This is Beautiful:) No Cords No Hassle

  • Omg, I'm just getting into vinyl and I should have got into it sooo much earlier!

  • Will this hook up to a stereo system easily?

  • Yes, it has rca inputs in the back.

  • The closets of back are full of tapes? I have piles of tapes, but all of them are in a unique closet.

On the othe hand, your record player is very good to be used, for example, in a park.

  • Nah, thoes are al CDs

  • CDS? Incredible machine! But I don't like a lot the CDs.

  • is it belt drive? or Direct Drive??

  • belt drive

  • Look at a video called "Vinyl Solution" by hamsterman video. It's also a portable player, but it plays upside down.

  • My gp-3 is way cuter :)

But I'd like to try this one with all the cool outputs and things.

  • The crosley 4 in 1 would have been a better deal then 84 dollers on that that it came with lots of things enstead of just one thing! :)

  • I own a PT-01 too, It's a handy little piece of equipment for diggin' & I love the fact it's 12" wide so it fits into my record bag. This alone is what made me go with with the PT-01 rather than the Handy Trax even if quality of the Handy Trax is probably better. The only thing I really don't like about the PT-01 is the strength of the clip that secures the tonearm when you're done listening. It's completely made of crappy plastic and feels really flimsy... I reckon it's on borrowed time.

  • First up, I see that there are a number of questions about connectivity with a computer: Numark released 2 portable record players, the PT-01 (the one featured in this vid) and later the PT-01USB, hardly surprisingly the PT-01USB has a USB connection for PC/MAC and comes with the software to record it with while the PT-01 does not.

Secondly the speakers were built in as an afterthought so it was more of a token gesture, but it's there in case you forget/break your headphones.

  • It might just be that the speaker has to be so small to fit in the player, rather than a power problem. My knowledge of electronics is limited so I really couldn't say.

  • I noticed you turned up the volume to its highest, and the volume was still pretty low. And that's why I took it back to the store and asked for my money back yesterday. The speaker is awful, how much power has it got, 5 Watts? It may be good to convert your old music to mp3, but it's deffinately not a good record player.

  • As stated above it's really not designed as a primary system for playing your records in high fidelity sound. It's primarily designed to be taken to record shows and flea markets and such so that you can listen to records to hear what they sound like and the condition they are in before you buy them. And it sounds much better when you listen to it with headphones (plus you won't bother other people at the show ). A player with high fidelity sound will cost more than the $99.00 for this one.

  • ok, I know what you mean, but lets face it: the speaker is a piece of shit. I don't think that putting more power to the speaker would have cost more than a few dollars per unit.

  • TRACK ID PLEASE. what inner city song is that? i think its inner city.

  • I own one of these, and I hate that the internal speaker on mine doesn't mute when I plug the table into a system. Is there a way to make this happen without just cutting wires?

  • That's interesting. I own one and it mutes when I plug it into an amplifier and when I use the headphone jack. I have no idea why yours is acting the way it does.

  • I was quite disappointed with this record player, the sound is SO tiny and doesn't sound very good hooked on real amplifier either, a pity. I'm gonna find a vintage Philips stereo portable now, they're not much bigger and would pass as hifi equipment compared to this.

  • But this is designed more as a USB turntable than it is a turntable where its only purpose is to play records like a normal turntable would! Quite honestly, I don't care about the sound quality of the external speaker because I'll only use this turntable to convert my records into MP3 format. When I want really good sound quality and serious listening to my records, I'll turn to my 1969 Panasonic stereo or my 1974 record changer.

  • How would I use it to convert to MP3s?Can I buy a special cable with a USB plug that can attach to a PC? I thought one needed to buy a special turntable to do this. I've seen them for sale in catalogs.

  • When you buy it from the factory, it comes with a USB cable and a CD-R of EZ Vinyl Converter-according to the instructions, hook up the USB cable to your computer and install EZ Vinyl Converter.

  • You must have purchased a different model than the one I bought. Mine didn't come with any of those things and it says nothing about it in the owner's manual. I suppose I could check the Numark online store and purchase them. Thanks for the info.

  • there's a PT-01 and a PT-01USB

  • Interesting,I have one Vestax Handytax, and the interesting thing is,is the same system, exactly the same system as this numark, even the position of the pitch control and the tone, just the volume set is different good machine, you volume is quite low too?

  • Hi can i as a noobie that dont wanna spend thatm uch mone scratch on this,is it just a habit thing?

  • That's not really what it's made for

  • i just ordered one of these today on amazon....can't wait until i gets here

  • i know this is probaly a dumb question but can u plug this into a mpc

  • its not a dumb question but yeah you can

  • how long do batteries last on this man?

  • Quite A while it seems

  • I'm just getting into this record listening business. What album was that you played? Sounded like something I might like.

  • I've got one for over a year now, and I love it.

The store where I got it from recommended it over the vestax player because it's relative doing better with batteries.

I've used duracells and it went on for ages !

I loved the look on peoples face when I took it to the park in amsterdam, where other people are using Ipods to listen to their music..

  • i got one too, what happens if the needle breaks?

  • You can probably buy one thru Numark

  • I was going to get the Numark PT-01 but I ended up buying the vestax handy trax turntable. It's has all of the PT-01's features, plus it's more robust than the PT-01

  • i got this last year feb...have since gone on to pro-ject turntables.now don't know wat to do with this numark baby.its cute but doesn't sound too good even when plug to external amps/speaker.maybe good for beginers...

  • Can we Sample?

  • thanks for posting this, you just Inspired me to order this online.

  • Can you play Edison diamond discs on it?

  • No probably not.

  • I've seen people use those things at record stores and convention(s). I have been thinking in getting one and you paid a good price for it. This record player has the 78 RPM speed does it?

  • i have 5 battery operated record players from the 60's, 70's and 80's. 2 or them can player 78's.

  • Hi Again,

I had another question about the PT-01.

Would the PT-01 play and EP?

  • Yeah no problem there. It'll play just about anything you put on it.

  • I was thinking of buying a PT-01 and I had a few questions.

1.) Does this play 7" and 12" vinyl records?

2.) Are the built in speakers good?

3.) If I wanted to, could I hook this up to external speakers?

    Thanks

  • 1 - Yes

2 - They are OK, not GREAT but OK for a portable

    3 - Yes

  • does it have built in speakers??

  • Yes it does :)

  • are they good

and can you attach it to other speakers ( and how do they attach to other speakers,....1/8mm headphone or something else?....RCA.?)

  • They have stereo RCA outs :)

  • WAYYYYYY old school cd player

  • Can you skratch on it?

  • I suppose you could, but I would not recomend it

  • Can you play 78rpm records on it?

  • Yeah

  • Thank you:)

I'm thinking of buying one, to get better sound on my 78's

  • Yes.

Did you watch the video btw?

  • I've had one of these for several months, and I love it! My only problem is that the six D-Cells it takes(geez) are not as snug as they could be, and sometimes do not make proper contact. And you're going to get some distortion if you crank that tiny speaker. It's obviously not suitable for scratching or ripping records, but it's perfect for digging! Battery life is unexpectedly long, I have not yet had to replace the batteries in mine.

  • Looks and sounds pretty good! I gotta get one for my vinyl.

  • Awesome little unit!!! I'm laughing though because someone asked about "is it good for scratching"? (?!?!?) :) My fear of using this 'on the road' is that whomever is selling records would be really picky about equipment not belonging to them to be used to play their records.

Still, it's a damn cute device and I would love to have one for me at work! :)

  • I wouldn't use it on new records. This is more for my bookstore used vinyl crate digs. They could give a shit about thier record inventory, which is nice because that means they price it cheap.

  • i wish stores/flea markets here didn't care so much about their cheap vinyl! :)

  • is that direct drive? :))

  • I think it's belt drive which is just fine for what I'll be using it for

  • Damn, I'm going to have to pick one of those up. I've seen others but they always look cheap & nasty. That one looks rather funky.

  • Lol, great idea

  • Ow it's cute , I would say as cute as the Vestax , very nice and I guess this wil save you some money too. Great video Bri

  • One of these days you need to do a video with all your turntables lined up :) Really though, I've really learned something about how you take the time to enjoy what you do, when you are not at a gig, by having a space dedicated to it at home.

  • I knew it would'nt be that long before you got yourself a new turntable.

  • how good it is for scratching?

  • Oh I'd never scratch or mix on it. This little guy is for portable playback.

  • Thats a great little turntable

  • lols it's so cute that it's so oldschool!

  • guess what vestax have given me for a November tenminmix prize? j

  • I've seen thoes little Vestax units. I think GTC sells them for $99
