I never understood why Ben decided to go before the Smoke Monster in the first place. Why did he think the Smoke Monster was some kind of judge? And whats up with the picture of the Smoke Monster and the Egyptian god?

@MyMojosSoDope The smoke monster resembled a creature in Egyptian mythology (Ammit), tied with the scales of justice (which also involves Anubis) - all to do with being judged and punished. It's all synonymous.

It would have also been logical for the Egyptians on the island to just incorporate the smoke monster into their mythology.

Wow. How creepy was that? The viewer expected "Alex" to say something to make him feel "better" allowing him to cope with the loss. But it didn't, it smiles and agrees with him that he allowed them to kill his step daughter.

One of the best scenes with smokey (so far), this time we get see its dark and ancient dwelling. Love it what it did with the place. :-)

God this was one of my favorite scenes but it was really sad! I love Ben(Michael Emerson) cause he is like the best. MIB is cruel when he tricked Ben by using the thing that was most important to him(Alex) against him, but i gotta say, MIB is very smart. Can't wait to see how it all ends!

The look of disgust on Ben's face when he realises what the last words his daughter ever heard were "She means nothing to me" are spectacularly played by Michael Emerson. Such a great character, extremely intelligent, complex, scheming, riddled with flaws, regrets, self-loathing....

I think the smoke monster is Set, the god of evil. I think Jacob is Horus god of war and thats why theres vegetation and armies being called to the island. I think Tawaret or whatever the statue is is tawaret the goddess of fertility which is why when it broke, people no have babies. Also, Tawaret was an escort to Set.

Right idea, except Locke didn't die on the Island. But yeah, very telling in this scene that "Locke" is nowhere to be seen when Alex is there. Smokey can only do one impersonation at a time. And that's why Smokey doesn't show outside after Ben tells him he'll be waiting outside - Fake Locke is there. No one ever saw Superman and Clark Kent at the same time, after all :)

I disagree. I don't think the smoke monster can manipulate dead bodies. I think Black-shirt (the guy talking to Jacob) is the one that can take control of bodies, but him and the smoke monster are separate. it makes sense because when Ben fell through the floor Black shirt said he'd go find a way to get him out as locke. Out of sight, black shirt changes to alex and goes to ben to tell him to listen to whatever john locke said. Then he changes to John locke, and now ben will do whatever he says.

I was so scared Ben would go. Even though he is a lil fucker, he is bad ass! I agree with him being a necessary Evil. As for Alex, I think she was supposed to die.

I think Richard is some sort of Egyptian God, as he naturally has thick bottom eyelashes, however they put eyeliner on him in Lost to give him more of an "Egyptian" look. Plus he like, makes up the rules and uses "Jacob" as an excuse, but only when necessary. He is old as hell and he plays semi-servant to who the island chose

i don't know if you are familiar with harry potter, but this scene reminds me so much of the scene when tom riddles locket is torturing ron in deathly hallows. kinda the same concept. but i love this scene so much.i always beleived no matter what ben did, he was repentant .he did regret and feel bad about stuff, and this scene really and truly shows us that about ben, and also what the smoke monster shows you when you look into it.

I think it's awesome that earlier in the episode Ben said to Sun that what ever comes out of the jungle is something he cant control and Locke walks out of the jungle and in this scene the monster warns Ben not to control Locke anymore or the monster will kill him. I think Locke and Ben will have a power war over the island.
