  • kids a champ

  • I didn't know you were on Dual Survival...Nice bamboo torches, and bamboo hammock, I would have never thought of that!

  • The black kind is on sale at amazon.com for only 99cents!!

  • Dude best vids ever thumbs upp and thx for the education

  • HEY! this is where I remembered you from, lol. Have been off the net for quite a while. Just a tip, if you & Cody ever have a problem with a can with holes in it & feel the need to use a nasty snake skin to pasteurize water again, just stick twigs in the holes man. Plugs, and if they are shaped weird, that's why we made knives to whittle out shapes, lol. I know you probably just had to do that for the show, but it didn't look good dude. Good to get that off my chest.

  • I found murray's beeswax at wal-mart for 1.82... it's located in the ethnic hair care products.. I picked up 2 jars

  • okay. thanks!

  • What is that base? the base that its burning in?

  • $2.44 with tax at FAMILY DOLLAR. (General Dollar doesn't carry it.) This is a great twist on our pioneer's axle grease lamps!

  • @kward79 erm Dollar General, sorry y'all

  • aussie aussie aussie :D

  • This is Great!! Will be on my list.

  • beeswax. now on my shopping list

  • can u imagine someone having that in there hair and it catches on fire lol.

  • Too bad murrays supports obama! Could be a marketing strategy. Support obammer then everyone will need a grease lamp to survive!

  • Thank you Dave so much me and my 3 freinds are at the age of 15 and are doing marine cadets now for 3 months love it. we follow-up every video en lesson you have , even wactch dual survival everyday and thanks to your great lessons we have passed our 5 day survival test in the wild with my 3 freinds and we all passed. especialy with this canndel trick with the bees wax it help out alot with fires i just wanted to thank you Dave

  • your videos just saved me from watching the cheetah girls with my girlfriend thank you!

  • Cool a candle

  • I bought some of this earlier then stumbled upon this video. weird.

  • I think I have you beat here... how about 15 hours from a 10-cent LED, an aluminum soda can a lump of campfire charcoal and some dirt+urine. It will potentially run non-stop for 10 years so long as you keep supplying urine every few days. There are other combinations that will achieve the same thing. I have been documenting it on my blog search for minimalintentions earth battery... can't seem to put a url here.

    Great videos BTW.

  • It'd be nice to find a way to utilize the bee's wax with the cooking stove......just a thought.

  • Cool videos and really cool show on tv. It is great. Thanks.

  • hey man, watch all u'r vid's and the tv show, really enjoy all of it.don't like your hippy cohort as much as you,but my wife likes the contrast between ya'll. hey i just always wonder and want to know...what is that on your necklace??? i figure it's some survival thing, but never heard u say.

  • You're not only teaching us practical stuff, you're also teaching us how to look at things and think things out, and I have no word to tell you how much I appreciate that.

  • Love the videos man, great great stuff. Priceless! Love the information you share with your viewers Keep up the good work!

  • Outstanding! I am a big fan, and I was surprise to come across your video. I am a subscriber now and look forward to watching and using your advice. Thanks!

  • I use neosporin on cotton balls, while not cost effective, it does dual purpose lamp and first aid.

  • You can get gallons of used deepfrying oil from your local burgershop for free. It burns! If you have a diesel car you can filter it an run you car on it with some minor mods and i bet you could use it for a grease lamp as well. Beeswax is a great product that has many areas where it can be used though.

  • Dave is THE MAN! Great teacher and knowledge.

  • murys

  • seems good for putting on clothe strips and wrapping around a staff for a torch.

  • thumbs up if you want to put a whole tub of that stuff on your teachers chair XD

  • damn i need to find me some of that beeswax

  • Sticking our fingers in things as that's the way guys are! LOL Ell Dave you got that right! Anyway Bee's wax is awesome doesn't stink when it burns. Also it's great for waterproofing knives and keeping metals from rusting. It's a natural water proffer for clothing. We used to use it to lubricate our saws when cutting aluminum. It also helps if you rub some on a saw before cutting wood. You are lucky you found it!

  • I used to use Murray's Beeswax for my dreadlocks

  • Just checked out the website, they have another one (not beeswax from what I can see) which comes in a damn fine lil tin.

  • It's always Great to get money saving( and possibly life saving) tips for free! Thank you Dave!

  • This is first class. Great vid. Thanks

  • where is dollar genaral

  • good find make a good torch fuel too and the resin should help with friction on the barring block

  • good find make a good torch fuel too

  • Stay away from Pepsi commercials!!

  • oh wow i just noticed u are the guy from dual survival

  • this is fanfastic:)))

  • Hey Dave ! Want bang for your buck , go to Lowes or home depot and get a Wax ring for a toilet . Get the cheap one that is usually .99 ,It is not good as a wax ring but firestarter extraordinaire ! Guess what it's made of , beeswax and petroleum . I found out by using one I left in the garage for years . I don't know if it would be good for lip balm though !

  • wow fantastic i love the beeswax lantern. i'm gonna c if i can get it here in nova scotia. carry it too. ty 4 the gr8 videos......karen

  • @red8826 at the point where your going to go to the store a specifically buy something to make a lamp you are no longer in survival mode. as for the mp3 player, ya good idea you more likely to have it on you than a jar of bee's wax and you can get a spark off the battery in a survival situation to light a fire.

  • what is the advantage of carrying that vrs just getting a little led lite. a 2 aa cell led light should give you more hours of light for less size or weight than the beeswax. or if it is a need for firestarting why not regular parifin or tea lights? The grease lamp is a great idea if you have to try to find fuel from the land, but if your gonna pack in the fuel from civilization why not go full bore and take advantage of little solar lights, small button cell flashlights, or long burn candles.

  • @donaldphinney yeah you should also bring ur tv too or ur mp3...... man its survival.

  • I just carry a couple cheap tea lights for the same effect. Pack of 100 for 5 bucks, burns for hours at a time. I've started fires with those candles in really wet conditions before, too.

  • wow i got to get me some of that!

  • Heading to the Ouchitas next week. I'll definately be taking some with me. Thanks!

  • thats really cool haha, nice video dude!

  • Hey, Dave. Did you not know that beeswax comes from bees? Its whats on the outside of the comb.

  • Awesome find and info! I just ordered 3 of them immediately after watching this. Invaluable addition to my B.O.B.

  • fantastic find, thanks!

  • is that the spider shelter ?

  • Wait a minute.... i've seen this guy before..... ooh! he's the one from dualsurvival.

  • @agun17 thats what i was thinking lol!!

  • Very cool hope I can find it here in Canada

I might try and put a reflector behind it like the wind brake from my stove to reflect more light

    Just a thought

  • @winnipegdiver look at lotens drug mart man

  • lol.. i stuck my finger in it because thats the way guys are... lol, thats great. it had me laughing for a good 15 minutes.

  • @danthman114 just use a real piece of animal fat with a wick made from braided pubes lol

  • that is wonderful thats for share I'm going to look for it in dollar general.

  • I remember trying to find that product. The stuff would always be sold out by the time I got there. Found out a lot of bushcraft ppl were buying it. Nice video Dave.

  • See Aussies can make good things

  • holy crap im defenetly puttin so thing like this in my pack thanks for the vid and great job!

  • tuna can, any kind of oil [veggie oil, etc], small piece of wire in an acending coil type of shape, and twisted toilet paper for a wic. 1/2 tuna can of oil will burn 12 hours. try it !

  • have looked, struglin to get this in the uk. fantastic bit of kit thow...

  • Could waterproof something with it too.

  • will it with a steel match as in light it?

  • Hitting up the local Dollar General this afternoon!

  • Dave, I guess I'm all set in that dept since I use Murray's Original Pomade...It pretty much has the same stuff in it, and It holds my hair damn fine too. Thanks for the tip!

  • hey dave, i saw your vid about the murray's beeswax and it inspired me to try to make a variation of it. i went out to my local walgreens and bought a few things (herbal oil, Shea butter, petroleum, and a lot of beeswax) and i made the stuff successfuly. it works better than the murray's (but for a higher price). but thanks a lot for posting this vid!

  • I like how Dave uses the euro time system. I hate that ambiguous AM/PM crap.

  • Too cool. Proves you don't have to spend a bunch on your kit.

  • Dave, that is great! I have often thought about the old style oil lamps that did not use a wick. Additionaly i have thought about the greese laterns that the mountain men used in the early days of the USA.

Thank you for refreshing the idea and showing me a current application and source.

    Keep up the great job!

    Marshall

  • lol i use murrays on my hair... but im white lol works wonders !

  • @nexivdr Well at least we know we can use your head as a grease lamp.

  • just got some of this stuff today!

  • i too use a pomade that contains castor oil, bees wax and petroleum that stuff burns like crazy

  • That would be good stuff for bullet lube for my 455 Webley as well!

  • i like putting my fingers in things too

  • wow I live in oz and have never seen it..might have to go for a look to find where the distributor is.cool vid. thanks

  • i was gonna tell you this stuff is very water resistent so could be applyed to boots or any thing you need to water proof

  • You could also use it for a torch dave :)

  • yeah def gonna be lookin for that stuff lol and gonna look for a rock to make the hole in tomarrow while im out lookin for stuff for my other projects

  • im going to make one with vasoline

  • it works great :)

  • Hi Dave,,haven't found beeswax yet but made an aluminium bowl as a lamp base..it works great with cheapo furniture polish,,,Thanks for this wicked tip!!!

There's a small vid to show it on my you tube...

  • is this gonna take the place of ur beeswax container in ur pack or r u gonna carry both? u should be able to use it to make fly fishing string to. thanks agin dave. another great vid

  • nice... after i empty dollar generals shelfs of murrays beeswax, im gonna invest money in the stocks of dollar general and murrays... thanks dave....

  • THIS STUFF IS AWSOME i got some the other day

but with a cotten ball i got alot of black smoke i wonder if it will be diffrent with jute twine

  • it is but a lot arder to light with a fire steel

  • the cotten ball i did i couldnt light with a fire steel

i had to use a lighter and it toook a longgg time

  • Great ideas!

  • I bought some at Rite Aid and tried it with garden twine it worked well I still need to work on how I use it though a cotton ball may be better.

*tip: It works well for lips to!!

  • neat

  • hey dave i found this brand at walmarts in a metal tin. i put a lamp wick in the past and it works great. its not the beeswax one but works nice.also snoseal works well too.

  • This is my favorite vid of yours so far.

  • Dave this is highly recommended in an amazon review, to keep your dreadlocks in order. Maybe pass it on to Cody?

  • wow im going to buy some tomorrow lol thanks for the heads up buddy

  • I just bought 2 can's of Murray's "BLACK" , it's in a black can and has kind of a gray color to the product. What I noticed is that it contains titanium dioxide, does the stuff with the yellow label contain it also? The reason I ask is that titanium dioxide is also used in many sunblock products, as the sunblocker....

  • could be yet ANOTHER use. you should see if it still burns the same though. (it might put out more smoke with that sunblock in there).

  • Cool! I always carry sisal rope in my fire starting kit, so that would work great for making a lamp. I bet it would heat up a shelter pretty well too.

  • thats a great idea for a little light. thanks for sharing that technique

  • dave, would this catch with just a firesteel?

  • search 'jute tinder' to find out.

  • wonder if it will bring water to a boil and how long it would take in a pinch

  • 5/5

  • Ahh, I wish I´d find anything like that from my closest strores, ´cos I live in Finland :-(

  • Thanks

  • if you ground up some mint in it you would have a nice soothig ointment for sore muscles and the list goes on and on,

  • I was just looking for something like this. This is perfect for my handlebar mustache as well.

  • i will be looking for this today. if Dollar General gets wind of this vid. they just might up the price. got to get some now just in case. THANKS Dave great find.

  • Dave....I want to thank you for giving me some good viewing and I enjoy learning from you.....A rare thing for me to get the opportunity to be the student these days........feels nice.......Keep up the great work.....

  • nice tip, thanks

  • thanks for sharing, dave you should put some on your site! i went down and bu 6 cans of the exact same thing today, and they ran out... i was going to buy 12. because here at our dollar store it is 1.50. so you do the math. that is well over 5000 minutes of light.

  • Dollar General....here I come!!!!

    Great find Bro!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • could you use it for bowstring wax

  • perfect

  • i just paid 90 cents for an oil lamp, i filled it with olive oil and jobs a gooden ,

also a great multi use item , although it does smell a bit ,

  • any kinds of vegitable oils works.

  • yeh , i think its great, you cna use it to cook and lube blades, and if you are out for ages you could even try making it,

  • Perhaps, A real "Soldier of Fortune" will use a dub of Vaseline®. Fakers carries pmado into survival? LMAO!

  • Sorry i miss spelled it...it's pomade . LOL

  • Couldnt you make it like a candle and replace the Wax with beeswax?

  • yes. that's smarter people would do.

  • this is priceless info,

instead of twine, could a cottonball work ?.

  • Yes.

  • Excellent find! Thanks for sharing Dave.

  • Great Product. Im going to have to get some of that stuff. I love finding cheap things to carry with me. Im probally will do a video of that too!

  • yes beeswax and lots of honeybased products were made and used by mankind thousends of years ago. I'd put some of that beeswax on that selfsutured wound you have above your finger, I'm sure it'll help it heal.

  • thanks Dave.

  • Also you had mentioned wounds.....wanted to add especially burns.

  • Unbelievable Dave, always something new. Thanks!

Also wanted to mention you can use it for waterproofing things, like the stiching on your boots or anything else. I remember as a kid my dad used something similar for his workboots. Thanks again Dave.

  • I went to the dollar store yesterday, i should of picked it up.

  • oh ya

did you ever try an 8 hr tea candles

they don't melt in the car on a summer day. what do you think of them.

  • that is so great

next time i go to the dollar store i got to look for that or the like.

    thanks great info

  • Wow, great find Dave!

  • outstanding site for learning almost anything on outdoor living ..basics and well explained each video ,,,Big Thanks to ya'll !!

  • I think you just made a kudlic! Native Inuit used something similar to heating the inside of their igloos or snow caves. Except theirs were made out of animal bone or soapstone and used seal or whale blubber for fuel but the mechanics are the same.

  • @JonTheGoose did u get this off of ray mears?!!

  • Comment removed

  • Dollar Tree olive oil + a wick + tin can cut down to size = a 24 + hour burning lamp like you wouldn't believe. Trust me I left one burning the afternoon of Halloween to the next day and beyond. Worked great for a jack-o-lantern

  • How much olive oil, how thick/long of a wick, and what size tin can? Like, An ounce of oil, a 3 inch standard glass candle wick, and a tuna can? What ratio are you using? This sounds like another experiment we'd like to try along with the beeswax deal. Thanks for sharing this.

  • Any sized wick is fine, i used a really thin one. As far as the amount, nothing standard and the container is the same way. You could take a coke can and cut it in half, take a wick, a waxed wick works, anchor one end of it to the bottom, fill the can half with olive oil to whatever level, as long as the wick is still exposed and light. Olive oil will burn slowly, not very hot, and it isn't very flammable so if it spills no worries about the house catching ablaze. It burns nicely and slowly.

  • Unbelievable

  • Murrays is going to be lovin you, Dave.

  • thank you,great tip..

  • thanks dave, I already got 2 jars today from right aid. thanks for the tip!!

  • I'm going to Dollar General tomorrow. Thanks for the tip
