I appreciate that I only had a few seconds worth of my Dad's old cine film to work with and I do like to make a neat presentation ( and advertise my website ) but remember that back in the day cine film was precious and expensive, you had to wait days if not weeks to see the result and editing and projecting were messy complicated tasks. For those reasons the average amateur cinematographer of the 1970s could only afford an establishing shot or a short burst of action.
You are quite right and I stand corrected. Romania has a coastline and a major port - Constanta - but on therelatively small Black Sea - also bordered by communist countries Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia and Georgia and NATO member Turkey. The Onedin Line plied the Atlantic to many more varied destinations - hence its popularity
Each to his own. In fact, for Romanians living under the Communist Ceaucescu regime, The Onedin Line came to symbolise this kind of freedom. It was one of the few Western programmes shown on state TV and many the imagination of many people in the landlocked dictatorship was caugh by the many adventures of the Onedin family, Captain Baines and the rest on the high seas.
