  • I've seen Gladys and the pips just about all over the world. from New Jersey to London. And no matta in the world i seen them THEY WERE JUST F KING AMAZING

  • Where has this type of greatness gone. Thank you for sharing it much appreciated.

  • TRUE GREATNESS!!!!

  • check out the pips breaking it down in this video what a great dancing routine for this tune

  • OMG... LOOK at the PIPS! WOW i miss this time!

  • Was this the Cool Jazz Festival in San Diego?

  • @givemetoast No, this was in Detroit, MI.

  • Man I wish I was there!!! The pips got me dizzy!! great stage performance and Gladys sings so effortlessly. Just naturally soulful!!!! Sweet!!!!

  • makes me wanna dance

  • This is my favorite GKP song!

  • Yes, the crowds were mellower then. I was one of them. The screaming didn't start til the end of the song or the performer did something truly smokin'.

  • Audiences in the 70s were mellow, but paid the money for their music. Acts go broke now because "fans" "share" pirated songs. Today everyone wants to share a view of their buttcrack and call it "soul." Keep your as-soul to yourself. The Pips were disciplined, the lyrics often profound, most of the comments I see here are long on attitude and short on really knowing their music.

  • I just don't get WHY audiences back in the 70s were so frigin LAME.. They show no response to the active, LIVE, powerful energy that was happening on stage. I was only a kid at time, but damn, if I had been a member in the crowd at the time of this gig, seeing, hearing and watching Gladys & Pips play LIVE... i would have been jumping & singing my azz off,.. ENJOYING THE SHOW... Thank God, things have changed.. yikes.

  • Audiences were different then - more respectful of the singer - let everyone hear and then go crazy!!

  • I agree with you maryanng62!

I was a kid in the 70s too. But remember that high quality acts were just the norm in those days. The crowds were a bit spoiled in that they expected this type of professional precision from everybody! They had James Brown, 4 Tops, Temptations, Jackson 5, etc., etc.

  • givs me chills

  • Gladys Knight & The Pips' first bombastic hit, after leaving MOTOWN-Records - a smash! In that year I was leaving my home to move to another city and then I found my lover/friend for a lifetime: Very good memories at all!

  • Oh, Gladys! That fiery, soulful rasp. You just want to shout "Hallelujah!"when she sings. That kind of fire can only come from the soul. Then, you throw in the Pips' razor-tight choreography. Man, this could be grounds for a mild heart attack!

  • love the pip moves

  • I have to keep coming back and visit this video every month or so... there is so much fire and live excitement. It just inspires me.

  • Thank you!

  • Who's the cool as brotha on the bongos at 1:23 ? He got his shades on playing! 70's!

  • incredible! thanks for posting. i am inspired.

  • This has to be the funkiest shit I've ever seen in my life. My grandparents loved GKATP when I was a little boy.(and the OJays). Were the Pips steppin' this shit out or what?

  • only the classic soul can do it best live!

  • Y'all see the way Gladys looked at her brother at 2:27 ? Looked like she was saying "go on with that shit boy!, u kickin' that shit aint u? "

  • OMG! This is unbelievably EPIC!!! What a song, what a performance- and dem some smooth ass pips... WOW.

    Empress Gladys wins!

  • This song has kept me going for years, when I would have problems.. I love love love this song and Gladys Knight and the Pips........

    Truely a great song.

  • This is my #1 Empress Gladys Knight & the Pips song.

  • I can feel the energy!!!!!!!! Fantastic!!!!

  • This is my favorite GNTP song. There's something about this version- maybe it's the distorting bass- but it just *rocks so hard!* Thank you for posting this. I'm so inspired.

  • the one and only priceless voice of gladys.she should have those vocal cords insured with lloyds of london!

  • Great perfromance, even better than the Midnight Special clip.

  • Get it Gladys! I love this timeless Soul jam!

  • Really really soul!!!!!! top a top

  • Legend.

  • And the Pips are moving , aren't they?

  • yes they are!!

  • So effortless. The EMPRESS is simply the best.

  • FANTASTIC!

  • great track love it KTF

  • They sure are! What show is this?

I always love hearing "Imagination" live because I am kind of unhappy with the recording quality of the studio track. There is something very muted about the sound compared to the beatiful clarity of the other tracks on that album.
