i was a former MINI cooper s owner, living in italy, electric blue W/withe roof and viper stripes and unfortunately for my dear american friend the mini engine was made in Brasil by a Chrysler/Pentagon plant, that engine was exclusively chosed by BMW AG(the MINI owner) because of BMW'engine was mechanical too big for that car, and BMW only has longitudinal displacement engine, while MINI's are trasversal engine, and the never use (in europe) Chrysler/Pentagon engine was the chosen one

I own both cars.. SOTP the mini is faster.. but of course it isnt. It is by FAR the better car to drive.. much more fun and handles incredibly. I've had to heavily modify my GTO to make it a "sports" car. Coils.. shifter..giant wheels and tires.. mini still is the better track car.. by FAR. Try to get a GTO to turn in like a stock cooper.. it just can't.

I have Mini for 2 years now, and it runs well for its weight/strengt ratio. From 0-100kmh he is king in the mediteranian cityes and it takes out maxiscooters up to 500cc which is most impressiv for me.I think the secret of well perfomance is in good ratios in gearbox and fact that strenght is measured by DIN(german standard) on the wheel

(not on crankshaft by SAE)with every electrical and hydraulical apliance conected and working. By SAE standard he would probably have 20-25hp more.

unless that Mini has 250 ps the power to weight is not the same. In the UK the the GTO is the Vauxhall Monaro and it is has 200 ps/ ton. The Mini has less than 150 ps/ ton. How could that be similar? Plus the GTO hits 60 mph in under 6 sec and the Mini 7,5 sec.

Great you realize it is australian. And no it wouldn't rip the GTO up in any competition. Not in the 1/4 mile or on a racetrack. GTO suspension is not Pontiac it's based on Holden's Monaro. Mild suspension ($1000) mods and GTO's road race competitively with Corvettes and Porsches, which cost many thousands more. The only minis that beat GTOs are the one's whose owners pay their buddies to pretend they won their little play race and post the vid on youtube.
