After coming across a Pentax k5 video, I WISH i would have known about that camera and that Pentax was still going strong. The weather sealing is amazing on this camera and I don't think the d7000 could come remotely close to it's capabitlity. I think both cameras have strong and weak points for sure. I like my Nikon d7000 though for it's extensive list of lenses and other things. The 35 1.8g lens is AMAZING for the price. The quality of the pictures, etc is stellar. I may get a K5 one day tho!
I honestly kind of forgot about Pentax when I was looking for a DSLR. I have always shot pre 1980's film equipment and used to have a Pentax K1000, which is a legendary camera in it's own right. I have never owned a digital camera (which is surprising since I'm not even out of my 20's yet) and just have a true commitment to film. Anyway, I figured Pentax went the way of the dinosaurs so I looked at Nikon and Canon. I've loved Nikons for ages and got the d7000.
I was torn in between K-5 and Nikon D7000, but I chose Pentax bec. of the durability, weather resistant and it's made of alloy & magnesium. Just in case I end up doing outdoor photoghraphy. I am so overwhelmed with things I need to learn and your response is so helpful, it narrows down what I need to research. I will do a price check on both of the lenses. Thank you!
@evamartin100 No problem, The K5 is a great camera, if you are planning on going farther with photography the Nikon D7000 is a great option at the same price point. The only reason I would bring up the nikon is b/c there are several great cheap lenses you can get (35mm f/1.8G and 50mm f/1.8D). Pentax only has 1 cheap prime which is the 35mm f/2.4 but the DA/FA limited range is awesome!

there are loads of cheap Pentax primes going back to the 50s or 60s. Many of them are excellent.

I'm a beginner, and plan to take picture at dancing competition in the future. Is this the right camera for me have?

@evamartin100 Any DSLR would be good. Just keep in mind you want a fast aperture lens to go with it, not just the kit one that comes with the body.
