@dacreepa2 The difference between the Gracies and Gene is that Gene doesn't brag about kicking people's asses.
People who have trained with him say he's a scary old man who they want no part of. And that's coming from pro fighters who have rolled with a 70 year old man.
@dacreepa2 you haven't got a clue if you think that's true
Gene Lebell was fighting boxer, wrestlers and muay thai guys before you where even born. He's a 9the Dan red belt in Judo and an 8th Dan red belt in BJJ. He was also a golden gloves champ and at 70 would probably fuck you up in a heart beat.
Gene lebelle taps straight away when he's put in something, however when he's got someone in a submission and they tap he holds it for like 5-10 seconds longer, there's no need to teach like that, the guy is a dick
Years ago most people specialized in one thing ex; boxing, karate, judo etc. When mixing up the training it was just called cross training. Gene La Belle took this to the level where he was called "The Toughest Man in the World". He trained in boxing, submission wrestleing, judo, and jujitsu I think. He was known to take on anyone. Although Bruce Lee is more famous for this Gene is the Grand Ol Man. Todays version is MMA. Mass has ended go in peace.
@hubiethesaint Gene was so confident in his skills, on the set of the Green Hornet he used to fuck with Bruce before they knew each other.
He would pick Bruce up in a fireman carry and running around yelling like a fire engine while Bruce threatened to kill him. He'd put Bruce down, he'd come firing away at him and Gene would snatch him back up in the air.
It was one of the moment that defined Jeet Kun Do as his striking was useless against Gene. Bruce decided to learn to grapple.
Great comment. Gene is the real grandfather of mma and he has also done an outstanding job passing on the legacy of American Submission Wrestling. Too bad the mainstream fight media gives so much undue credit to others who were merely imitators.
gene is a sadistic prick, but thats why i love him as a martial arts teacher. when i trained with him he said he loved me and i got it when i didnt show him any mercy either. he told me he likes to be hurt...
hes true poineer of mma choked out steven segal !!!look at his credibility !!!mariano mendoza pioneer mexican mma k1 contender

@dacreepa2 There's a video of Gene Lebell taking part in the first sanctioned MMA bout in the US on youtube against pro boxer Milo Savage.
Gene competed in the 50's and 60's. For christ sake half of muhammad ali's fights have no video evidence and he was the most famous boxer in history.
THere isn't a single video of Bruce Lee in a fight but morons have no problems saying he was a badass.

Good old "Judo" Gene LeBell the real father of American MMA not Royce Gracie. Gene was doing style vs style fighting years before Royce was even born.
Anybody remember his famous fight with boxer Milo Savage back in 1963? Choked him out with a RNC.
