  • Absence of human scale

Visually oppressive building materials ( raw concrete in London's weather was a poor choice )

Difficult to create a " sense of community" in housing projects of such a large scale.

"Sky decks or streets " without a buffer zone between your apartment and the sky deck the result is a loss of privacy and a feeling of the shelter or flat being too exposed to public traffic.

  • It was always going to struggle with the label "Brutalism" - but I'm a fan of the more striking and thoughtful buildings. There is much that is plain out there, but that goes for just about any architectural style or period, but the good stuff is as vital today as it was when first erected. It's also a design/movement whose remaining buildings, where not torn down, are chronically under-represented on the register of Listed Building.

  • so true

  • Ugly architecture.

  • Good essay!
