actually we have 120 leo 2's. plus over 60 retrofitted leo 1's.

In fact, canadian leopards, are the only leo's to have been deployed in real combat. Canada has the only MBT's in afghanistan.

the leo 2 isnt more powerful, its just heavier. those tractors are built to be only so heavy as governed by official rules. their multiple engines put out several times more horsepower than the leo 2 and if they were put in a heavier body they could pull the leo 2 backwards. nothin against the tank though, i love the thing, its just that it wins cause its so heavy.

Yes, the Leopard 2 has the MTU MB873 engine which uses regular diesel fuel or almost any fuel with a high-enough cetane number.

It's much more efficient then these methanol engines. Actually the engine has been detuned to 1500 hp (it could do well over 3000 hp) and 5000 Nm of torque because it might shred the transmission to pieces.

It does have the advantage of tracks and a very powerful transmission though.

The new Leopard 2 PSO is said to have between 1800-2000 hp and a shitload of torque.

I also saw on youtube (search for "abrams extreme engineering") that the abrams could go much faster since that the tracks would melt, and that apparantly it had happened before... So considering that is a fact and that the leopard has the same tracks (or almost the same) than more hps would not be of much use...

I haven't got the faintest clue why it has more power.

Perhaps it's a side effect you get for free while increasing fuel economy?

The revband was going to be smaller, but it would gain so much extra torque that the power is increased aswell.
