So here is a question for you; why did you not just use Nikons CLS on the D70s to trigger the SB600? That is exactly the setup I have and I use it all the time. The biggest advantage of this system is that you can shoot TTL and have the camera do the metering for you. Just curious.
Hey there mate, Im just borowing this type of camera from my brother, but how do I configure my camera to self trigger ? :P Im all new to this. thanks
is that the newer nikon? it's too small for me. you should go with one of the older models, like D70 or D100. they are cheaper, and they pretty much do the same thing as the D90......
I've owned a D70 and a D90 and they're both nice cameras but the D90 is worth the extra money, especially if you're on a budget. The 12mp sensor makes it so if you need to do a tight crop you won't lose much image quality. The screen is much bigger than the D70s which makes it very convenient for reviewing your photos in the field. The only thing I like about the d70 better is the fact that it has a maximum shutter of 1/8000 vs the D90's 1/4000. Overall its just a nicer camera.
You are right about the D90 being smaller, but is a much better camera than the D70. I have a D70 and the upgraded sensor of the D90/D300 is far superior at higher ISOs and as dementedfish mentions, is about twice the resolution of the D70. The D90 has a larger viewing screen, better viewfinder coverage, upgraded image processing, shoots HD video, sensor cleaning, etc.
Not to mention you can't even find a D70 new anymore. Get a D90, or if you want a larger cam. get a D300 or used D200.
I have the D70 and I love the size and it works fine. But I would rather get a D90 for better overall quality and low-light capabilities.

You can get a remote shutter release. or
1. go to your "Custom Setting" menu (looks like a pencil) and go down to item 24, "Self-Timer." Select the number of seconds delay you desire.
2. Press the "Format" button and rotate the main dial until you see a small clock symbol on the Control Panel.
3. camera is now ready for delayed shutter. Don't forget to set the "Format" back to S for single shooting afterwards.
thats it

Oh and I do agree with you on the D90's size. It's way too small, the size of the D70 is much nicer.
