  • to be honest, your vids are superficial and boring. Who is your target audience? 5-yr-old kids?

why don't u just make some points and try to contribute, instead of asking stupid questions. it's not entertaining either.

  • I think many of your questions would be answered if you found a good art school and took some classes.

  • @jdbohdan I've been taking art history classes in university for 3 years now, and these questions have never really become clearer. All I've learned as that these questions are pretty much unanswerable.

  • @loser078 You may want to find a new university or new teacher. Some of the things you question as art are ridiculous. I understand the lighthearted open approach to questioning, but I'm being sincere. The word itself, "Art," is thrown around a lot and mis-used. In defining terms you understand what it isn't as much as what it is.

  • @loser078 Well, clearly I was exaggerating to some degree, but my point was that anything COULD be art. That's not to say that everything IS art, but anything COULD be art, if it's presented in a certain way. Plus, there's a distinction between "the arts" and fine art.

  • Should have started the video at :45

  • life is art

  • Art is any creation, that has a creator, and that has the intention to be art. I can't pick up a pencil and say that just because this was made in a factory or by people that it's art. Why? Because the pencil isn't used or is intended to be art. It's intended to be used by someone to WRITE.

In my opinion you wasted our time and yours by grabbing random household items and saying, "It THIS art?" I think we established that you're considering through questioning, that anything could be art.

  • @fellowtuber123 maybe for you it was a waste of time. maybe for others it was entertainment. this wasn't meant to be a terribly academic video. I just wanted people to think about the ambiguousness of art.

  • @loser078 That's okay, man. :) Just my opinion. No hard feelings.

  • @fellowtuber123 So if I take a big poo with the intention of it being art than its art? Awesome. I make art every day!

  • You're the kind of guy who really gets on my nerves.

Because we can't simply define it, doesn't mean anything can be art. Art has standards, art isn't about just naming something art.

Simply put, art is probablly what you'll never fully grasp

  • You realize I was just asking questions, right? I wasn't saying anything can be art. I was just asking if anything can be art.

i agree that it's probably something I'll never fully be able to grasp, but not because I don't understand, but because it's very difficult to define and therefore it can be art to some and not at all to others. I was making a statement more about how even the most usual or mundane things can become art, depending on things far beyond their initial impression.

  • Art does need to have the intetion of being art. Without the intention, then what will set it apart? The question you asked in the video stopped me for a moment. "What if I create something witht he intention of expressing something and noone gets it?" it made me think at first...but I realised the answer, that is why it is made, it is made for people to guess and to question. And they dont have to understand your reason. They dont have to understand, because they will infact form their own.

  • What if I create a piece of art but nobody considers it art? Sure people can have opinions different from my intention, but what if they don't even consider it to be art in the first place. You know?

  • I tottally understand what you mean. You have alot of good questions. I really relate because I too am an artist...so many of these questions pop in my mind myself.

  • Art is anything created with an emotion in mind. No one needs to see it, like it, feel anything from it, its just there to be a physical representation of the artist emotion.

  • "art is a lie that helps us see the truth" pablo picasso. i think art is anything that has meaning, beyond just a simple object. it has to be something that gives you a sudden urge to feel in a certain way and give you an emotion that is unique only to you. thats why when a piece of art is viewed by alot of people, some of them dont really consider it art while some do, but ultimately every person feels a different kind of emotion due to their past experiences in life.....

  • This is how I see things:

Not to get religious on you, but...

We are God's music, and God's music is so complex that it takes on all of these dimensions.

Art is simply the abstraction of The Dance that is life. The Dance that is the 'human condition.'

  • I think people should not ask what Art is, not that it is a bad thing, but the question that should be asked is what makes Good Art. I know that might sound stupid, but Art is too hard to define. No, I can't answer this question myself. Yet....

  • Art is everything that explains the world and matter, everything that people see and make it real by drawing it,painting it, etc.

  • hell, you could shorten that right down to "art is everything"

  • well almost, for example, peaple that want to draw something, they dont do it right as they plan it,it kind of isnt....i suppose

  • You could say that art is relative and the definition is constantly changing with us. Art is a reflection of human culture and human thinking and those two things are constantly changing/ You can define what art has been and what art is at the moment but I don't think there is an universal definition.

  • I think art is anything that comes of out the head. If its taken its not art its just copying what you see. Art is an expression between the piece and the artist and the viewer. This is coming from an artist..

  • I've come to believe that art and its definition are mutually exclusive. If we ever finally agree on a definition of art, then we will have killed it off altogether. With that said, here is the definition of art: Art is the product of the following 3-step process:

    1. Do something.

    2. Call it art.

    3. Believe it, or get someone else to believe it.

  • Hah it clearly is not simple

  • The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.

    ♥ Aristotle

That is put well by the great essay writing philosopher! <3

  • It's simple. Art is an interpretation of the creator's view of truth.

  • What if an artist doesn't believe in "truth"?

  • You don't have to believe in truth. Truth is there, no matter if you believe or not. Truth isn't something one believes in. If something is truth, it is truth. Simple and plain.

  • No, you just think it's the truth. And Ssomeone else just might disagree. ;-)

  • No, there are many many things in this world that are simply true. Facts, that you cannot deny and if you do it is out of ignorance and does not change the fact that it is true.

  • Art is that which can't otherwise be explained.

    Music, poetry, sculpting, tagging, ect.

  • when someone tacks 3 wooden cubes to a wall, i dont see that as art, it doesnt directly convey emotion or concept, even with a title. Now when someone paints a feild thats in front of their house, i sont see that as art either, anyone can take a picture, i think art has to convey emotion or concept directly from the creator, so if someone drew a person bound in chains reaching up, that would be art, it conveys emotion and concept.

  • i agree with xoxmsperfect. imo art has to symbolize something or the artist has to show emotion in his artwork; maybe not directly, but in some form.

  • I agree but at the same time. Nature is true beauty and is art. So if you paint landscaping it may not convey the deepest of our emotions. But it still draws out emotion, the emotions that we feel towards nature and its beauty.

  • I think that humans are social animals and are pleased when we understand that others in the same group feel as we do in reaction to works of art. Inspiration is the drive to understand others in this way.

  • Art is in the eye of the beholder. I think if a person has a reaction, such as an emotion, to it then it is art. I don't feel that art can be experienced by everyone. Something that moves me may be meaningless to you but it is still art. You mentioned Britney Spears so lets look at that. To the millions of people who love her she is an artist but I don't find anything appealing about her, so I don't agree. My not liking her or anything else does not change the fact that it is still art.

  • I just read a news article about a woman who will soon get to watch a video of her son's 7-hour police interrogation about a crime he didn't commit. When she watches the video, she WILL feel emotions.

Does that make it art? Or does it have to have been intended to be art for it to be art?

  • art is kind of a word we use to describe something which we do not understand, like "god".

its usually a form of communication, or should i say, symbolic representation. music, paintings, sculptures, literature, all represent something. why dont we call what i am saying art? what i am saying is not art because you are used to hearing people talk or reading stuff.

its impossible to draw the line as i see it.

i guess the creator has to be conscious and have the intention to create "art"...

  • very interesting point of view.

    thanks for the insight :D

  • Martial art. look up the word martial in the dictionary or encyclopedia. Let see what the bible say about art. King james version Rev 16:5 Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art,. Martial can be righteous or wicked. This is what is wicked-murder and lie,but murder is worser than a lie. Yes murder is an art. When the word Thou refers to humans, Your gonna have diffrences-germans,italians,chinese,etc.Your not exactly the same as your father or mother.I am into the art of truth and peace.

  • The Chinese art murderers,The Germans art murderers,The norweigan art murderers, etc, etc. THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF ART.

  • This video contains lots of questions! Let's see if I can attempt a go at all of them. I think art is open to interpretations...Each individual might see art as something different. If you're Andy Warhol, art might be a picture of a "product"... (You held up a peanut butter jar and dish soap) Art can be anything media (i.e. photos, woodcarving, music, etc.) created and interpreted as such. So in that sense, I think anything COULD be art... Ha ha. Great little video, really gets someone thinking!

  • Art for me is anything that uses imagination and creativity but more than that, art is something that someone has put their heart and mind into. So for instance a texture that came out of the factory is not art, but the first one that someone designed is art.

  • You Could Throw A piece a trash on the ground and take a picture of it and call it art... But that would be Photography Art! But if a police officer Saw you do that you would be charged with littering. LOL ^_^

  • Is there need to be an audience for art, if you keep pieces of art to yourself, never show it, is it art? I like your video, I like your mind, the piece I saw ;).

  • Thank you for the elaborate interpretation. I love long comments. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I'm glad you liked it. Feel free to watch the rest of my videos, and maybe you'll consider subscribing.

    Thanks again,

    -078

  • first, I think if you create having the intention to sell... it s just... well. I don t know. hmm...Art is a piece of the artist mind and flesh... so it s like prostitution... Art is for me, creating and getting my mind to reach this place which is not from this world. Art is also the use of words, the play on words, placed in a way you never placed them, anything... that really makes you feel alive. art is so much...

  • One thing that amazes me is how somebody can piss in a milk bottle and put it in a gallery and thats "art"

but graffiti isn't art because its a crime

    doesn't make sense

  • agreed.

  • Hey well in my opinion art can be whatever you want if i see it as art no matter what even a blotch on my shirt, then its art to me. Art is defined by the one perceiving it.

  • I agree. Thanks for sharing your opinion.

  • Ya no problem, Iv been watching other videos youv posted i honestly don't really remember how i even found your page lol but some of the stuff is really good. You should post more stuff like your video project on emotions, I really enjoyed it.

  • thanks. i don't get much of an opportunity to do stuff like that anymore these days, but I'll keep trying to post stuff like that if I get a chance. thanks so much for the support.

  • well, yer, you are surprisingly annoying on this one yet the others are pretty cool and less annoying and you know why I'm watching all this shit? cause I'm a loser too- I got nothing better to do and you've got some pretty awesome editing talent or whatever unlike others so it's a bit more enjoyable than chocolate rain or whatever

  • haha, thank you. what about it is annoying to you?

  • art... is a word used to describe something? so is it more like an adjective than a noun?

  • "emily, i love your shirt today. it's like SOO art, don't you think?"

  • damn you can be annoying at times

  • I completely agree. It's surprising you're still watching my videos, if you think so.

  • <3 you. AMAZING video! Why I haven't watched your videos before, I have no idea. You're just the best.

But on to the question, I have no answer. Which is basically the meaning behind your video. There is no answer. That's what makes art so appealing.

I like your lady drawing. I used to have pink hair. :)

  • haha, thanks lizzie. that means a lot. i'm glad you liked it.

And yeah, my video is sort of meant to show that anything can be art, but also, it's a matter of opinion. What's art to me may not be art to you, but as long as one of us considers it art, I guess that makes it art, in some sense, no?

  • I view art as anything that starts as an idea in someone's head and end up something you can see or hear. So in other words if it's created by someone it's art. Kind of broad I know. So buildings, paintings, plays, films, sculptures, books, music, this is all art in my opinion. It isn't all necessarily art that I like, but I still feel that it's art.

  • What about ready-made art?

I like your definition. I pretty much agree.

  • Well everyday objects had to be created by someone, right? So even something as simple as a stapler was an idea in someone's head, then through design and construction became what we use everyday. Although not typically viewed as art, I think there is some artistic value to it. How much value of course will depend on who you ask. I don't think that it says anywhere that art can't be functional.

  • What is and isn't art is really up to the individual to decide for themselves because there is no single line that separates what is or isn't art for everyone. An artist may present something as art but that doesn't mean you have to accept it as art. All that means is that the artist has accepted that their work is art to them.

  • well.. many people consider the movie The Birth of a Nation to be a great work of art.. when all it really is, is racist propaganda bull shit.. is nazi art of swastikas art..??? i don't think so.. i think if the intention of hate is behind something then it's not art.. some people think that for something to be art that the form has to be separated from the content.. but when the content is hate.. i personally don't think the two can be divided.. whatever.. this is just me rambling..

  • I think I agree...very interesting idea. That's not something I had considered before. Thanks so much for the comment, whether you rambled or not. I really appreciate your support and new ideas. Thanks :D

  • I agree with you..

  • and i think anything created with passion is art. and that there you don't have to think is this art or i want to create art. its just something thats created with some passion ex: love or anger. yeah im tired just kinda rambling lol...

  • Ben your an awkward kid

  • I'm not THAT awkward, am I?

  • ...umm no not at all...lol and man when you come home next time we should make another JFlow/078 film i think we working very well together. well later man.

  • Ben your video could perhaps be called art. I doubt whether that answers your question, but that's the best I could come up with. Great video 5 stars buddy!

  • Why would my video be called art? What features could make it art?

Thanks for the comment, Don. Your support means a lot to me.

  • Oh boy, you're putting me on the hot seat here, lol! Well one feature was the way you shifted from one frame to another (different positions). Humm as to why it would be art, I dunno but some would consider it so, I can't say why, perhaps someone will comment with that answer.
