The only downer about the '90 world cup was the lack of a backpass rule, and the referees allowing people to foul with impunity.

The actual standard of play was astronomical, every bit as good as today - possibly better.

Everything about Italia 90 was just right, the class of West Germany, all the big name players, the atmosphere of the crowd and the beauty of the surrondings. Compare it to the dross of USA 94 were everything was wrong. Best world cup in living memory! Wish they'd bring this out on DVD

I think this world cup had the most drama of any worldcup and all the superpowers clashed and mostly played well making it an awesome world cup

This was labelled a crap world cup because of the few goals scored in the tournament, but it was the first one I ever saw and that's why I love it.

I think there were only about 120 odd goals scored ,thats why the experts say it was a poor world cup,but i thought it was the best tournament of my time and i'm 29 now.Come on england

This tournament is only remembered, as far as I'm concerned, as the closest England have come in my lifetime to winning it. On the whole, it wasn't a very exciting event with a very poor final.

I was 17 when this tournament was played; and I thought it was very dull. However there were a couple of classic games; and some very good goals, which is the least you would expect really. Mexico 86 was for me, the best world cup I have ever seen, for reasons I don't have enough typing space for. Alot of people here say that this was their first world cup, and that's the reason so many people get all misty eyed about it; because it was the first world cup they can remember.

Its funny how some people say this world cup was dreadful. Arguably the football wasn't visionary, but the whole aura of the tournament, the drama of the matches, the atmosphere, the teams, the players, the desire within the players... it was powerful emotive stuff.

Football wise 1990 was a dross world cup, but the drama and soundtrack ('Nessun Dorma' and 'Un Estate Italiana') were enough to make it memorable even if the footy was not.

Amazing video this. Not only of the last great World Cup, but there's great soundtrack, perfect format and voice over. Can't find this on DVD which is a shame... and the VHS screws up just as Platt takes his pen against Germany and only comes good in the 3rd place play off... which isn't a bad thing!

Sweet memories, Was 8 years old in italia 90 WC. Had have this on VHS casette somewere. One of the best WC ever, and the WC-song "Un estate" mmm briliant. My favorite song when I was little:). Roberto Baggio and Caniggia was my favorites

i dont think so...i was 11...the reason why i think it was great because the players in that era at that particular wc where amazing. england, the republic of irealnd, the argentines,the italians..the fans were amazing..especially it being in italy...more goals doesnt necessarily mean a better wc...all aspects must be looked at...sure i agree that more goals means more entertainment though
