@RossRocks07 It's so he can hear himself and the melody of the song better. As you know how you hear yourself normally and how you hear yourself on video or in a recording is a little different. This gives him a way to see how he's hitting the notes and how his voice works with the music.

@RossRocks07 also when you record yourself singing you need to be able to hear the music. You could just play the music through speaker but then the mic would record the music and your voice, whereas all you want to do is record your voice.
