@alexnds1- I kneel next to the dog who is in a down position with the ball visible to the dog and have someone else tempt with food. I keep the dogs attention to the toy making it more interesting than the food similar to training distractions during healing. When the dog ignores the food from another person I throw the ball. After that is good I move to different standing positions but where I'm still visible while someone else tempts.
My dog's finished food refusal is nothing more than them holding a long down, ignoring what is in front of them while expecting me to chuck a ball overhead at any moment even if they cant see where I went.
the dog is choosing the higher value item, the toy over food. But this is from the owner, not from a stranger, so how do you go to step2?
