  • In spite of all their struggles to lose weight a majority of people are unsuccessful and need the help surgery provides. Not everybody has the time to jump through more hoops or make yet another attempt. By middle age an obese person is facing more of the health risks, including death caused by obesity related health conditions.

I'm a recent WLS patient that used to cook & eat a lot. Now I'm almost scared to eat. An automatic gulp (even water) instead of sip is unpleasant to put it nicely.

  • u did gud but u concern urself wit the wrong thing.u need to try to educate ppl whos thinkin of havin weight loss sergery only not all these extra topics an u keep saying ur boyfrnd,ur to old to say that, wat about saying ur husband for cryin out loud! i think u feel to wonderful about ursef intil u have to discourage others from the weight loss sergery, dont ever foget everything is thru the almighty.

  • Could I get the name of the eye doctor you saw in Mexico? My husband and I would love to have the Lasik surgery but cannot afford it here in the US. Thanks!

  • i'm glad this was the second video i saw after your first, knowing you aren't obsessing about food anymore. i was worried and felt uncomfortable thinking i would get back to that behaviour too.

  • Thank you!

  • Your so right about this video, there are so many people who think wls is the automatic answer but they don't actually want to do ANY work post surgery. It isn't a fly by night decision.

  • what doctor did you go to for lasik?

  • Love your videos!!! A side note...I really like your eye shadow/liner!!

  • WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE YOU LOOK FANATSTIC AND I,M SURE YOU FEEL AMAZING..... AND THATS ALL THAT MATTERS ...... THATS THE BEGINNING, MIDDLE, AND END OF THE SHOULD YOU SHOULDN,T YOU XXX YOUR LIFE YOUR BODY AND SURE IS "YOUR CHOICE" XXX

  • Hi kella, how much is the average cost of gastric sleeve in mexico

  • Thank you so much for this video!

  • Thank you very much for your videos!! I greatly appreciate them.

  • Hey there thanks for putting out the videos. I'm most likely getting the gastric sleeve procedure next year. I am 42 and have struggled with my weight since my teen years. Its putting stress on my back, hip, knees, my family, being able to work, seems like its stressing me out every way possible. Over 20 years of trying different weight loss techniques I am looking at this pretty much as a last resort, a way to save my life and help me enjoy life finally. So thank you, vids are much appreciated.

  • Hi Kellawanda... just came across your videos. Thanks for sharing. I saw one of the earlier ones and then this last one. I am glad you mentioned to not just jump into it and that if the issue of addiction is not addressed it could show up in others ways after the surgery and weight loss. Blessings on you and continued good health.

  • Hey I just started watching your video's I love them! I had the surgery on July 28th 2009 and would love talk to you about things will you shoot me an email at margojohnson8485@yahoo.com thanks!

  • This afternoon I have spent watching some of your videos. Way to go. You are correct WLS is not for everyone. However, for some it is the best tool/device to use to meet your goals. Eating correctly and exercising along with the WLS is the way to go for some. Some are fortunate that they can eat correctly and exercise and don't need the WLS. You are also correct in saying that one has to be in the right mind set emotionally and spiritually before any elective procedure. You keep doing what u do.

  • good advice

  • I had LASIK surgery in Mexico back in 2004. I'd been using glasses since the 5th grade and it was the best thing I did for myself. Like you, with all the special lenses and the contact and continuous care... I'm sure the $1,500 I invested on this 6 years ago has paid for itself throughout the years. =) Wise choice amiga. I live in a border town so I'm totally going to look forward to that teeth whitening thing... your teeth look great!

  • Hi,

    You are looking fantastic!

    HELP!!

I am looking for some information if you or your subscribers could help.

In America, some patients are give a card (business card size) after surgery that you can present to your waiter in a restaurant, explaining your operation and why you are ordering a small meal.

If I could get a copy or at least the wording, I would really appreciate it :)

    Thank you

  • Hi -- just wanted to pop in and say a big thank you!! I have been watching your videos for a good 6 months now and your no nonsense approach to wls surgery really made me feel like I was doing the right thing -- and you're soooo right, this is something not to be approached lightly -- it is a life changing thing, but something you have to take very seriously. So, I just wanted say a thank you for all you have done for everyone -- you really don't know how much comfort you give to others :)

  • I got my operation 15/9/2010 I feel great my blodpresiur is going down and I dont have any pain at all.

  • I just want to say Thank You, this video is very informative.

  • Your teeth look great!!

  • Wonderful Video. I am in the diet and exercise part of my journey and to be honest I have been on a diet for about 15 years. Love that you are being honest about surgery and pray those who need to hear this do. 4 more months for me and then we will see.

  • jajajajajajajaja STAY FRESH!!!!!! hablas español? You're funny, in a serious kind of way, jeje.

  • @SuperWubi: Gracias :) Y si....un poquito.

  • @TheHeatherLane: It started around month 3 and ended around month 5. Biotin shampoo and vitamins can help, but most likely it will happen....its a trauma to our bodies, the surgery and sudden weight loss, so it can be expected. Theres a powder you can buy to put on your head, hides the thinning spots.

  • Great video! Glad your trip to Mexico went so well, teeth look great :) Love the tshirt!

  • everything u said here is so so true..u hit it right on the head wow!! still cracking up @ stay fresh ha ha ha too cute :)

  • Hahha love the end :) Thank you for everything you've said. It expresses my concerns as well. I struggled with my weight for 20 years as well, trying everything before having surgery. I also had 150 lbs to lose. I know some people from message boards who are 40-50 lbs overweight and have only been that way for a year or two and they have surgery... it really bothers me. Thanks for sharing.

  • great video. i am new to your site and having my sleeve on nov 17th and so this really hit home for me. I am watching alot of you tube now about WLS and have found it very helpful. If you have any suggestions for me please let me know. Thanks again for all your insight and knowledge that you are willing to share.

  • awesome about the unplanned medical tourism hehe and maintaining on vacation :)

I also researched alot before going to my mexican surgeon. I have struggled with my weight most of my life and also have medical reasons why losing has been hard (high insulin, mild PCOS). People who are "naturally trim" most of their lives but then gain some weight for whatever reason should def try other things first, I agree!!!

  • Stay FResh!!!!!!!!!!

  • looking beautiful! my brother had the lasik surgery, worked awsome for him 8 years ago and still going strong =) a lot of ppl get surgery w/o research now and thats why they fail. lifestyle has to change with it. a lot of ppl dont know if u start to get calcium def it not only can lead to osteoporosis but also causes tooth decay from the root down after surgery. friend of mine is a dentist and she sees it all the time. stay fresh! lol cute! my shirt was haters make me famous! n the last vid LOL

  • hello, my name is Naira, I would love to know did you use the service of Dr Ortiz for your wls? you are right. I am doing my best to lose my weight naturally, healthy diet and excercise. Time will show. Good luck. You are very smart woman, I love the way you think. Are you counselor or therapist?

  • Very true, wls can't be our first line of defense. That's interesting you're a substance abuse counselor. I went through all my transfer addictions pre-surgery:)

  • So true. I thought about WLS for 5yrs before doing it & have struggle with my weight for 30yrs. I was at a point that if I didn't do something, my health issues were going to make my quality of life worse than the weight already had. It was worth the risk for me to improve my quality of life. I was prepared for permanently changing my eating & exercise. So many think they can eat the same, just smaller portions & not exercise. They are very disappointed when they cant loose wt. doing this.

  • Great video:) A lot to think about!! This was the first video I have seen of you. Looking forward to watching more!!

  • Oh you are soooo on the same wavelength as me - your past videos have been such a help - thank you, thank you - and really pleased to see you looking so well

  • You look amazing!

Responding to the girl you're responding to... I had WLS in July... It wasn't super easy like this person may think. I ended up with a Bowel Obstruction and a Heavy Infection... in the hospital a lot longer than expected, extremely sick, thinking about death afterwards was not cool....

Try to lose weight other ways prior to surgery. If you absolutely can't, then consider all complications that can come with this surgery. I hadn't and really wish I would have. Good luck!

  • You are looking great! You're hair is too cute! It's such a shame that you have to keep repeating yourself on the whole you're not 'promoting' wls... But I totally agree with you, and the crazy thing is that a lot of surgeons are almost pushing surgery on people to proove a point. At least that's how I felt when I went to a couple surgeons before I picked the one that did the procedure...

  • you look great! love the new hair cut and color. the make up is nice too. you look FRESH! Maintaining through vacation is AH-MAZING! Good for you! I thought it was the makeup, but it might just be those lovely white teeth. Mexico did you GREAT! Keep loving yourself and that boyfriend of yours. Take care. Onward!

  • thank you.

    && yes - STAY FRESH!

  • you look great =)

  • wow, Kittybookitty is really ignorant, and i dare say arrogant to assume her experience is applicable to everybody. dang!

  • Love the new video, very informative. You are looking great girl, keep up the good work!

  • @Socialtif perhaps, but statistics and studies show that a balanced diet and a mere 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day is all it takes to maintain healthy, slow weight loss, which mine is.

I play tennis 2 hrs per week, run 4 miles 2-3 times per week, and lift to keep my shape. Did i mention i'm a vegetarian with a plant based diet???

my point is, maintaining will be easy if the way you lost it indicates a LIFESTYLE CHANGE. Statistics also show this as well lol.

  • @Socialtif edit: I play tennis for two hours a session not two hours a week. that ranges from 4-6 hours.

i dont anticipate maintanence being a problem for me hun. maybe some would like for it to be a problem an i regain weight, but since i just feel like i'm on a diet and my mindset and lifestyle has changed, i don't see how i can regain. i haven't regained a pound in the last year and a half of losing the 100 i lost so far.

and i can eat a full meal each and every time.

  • @Socialtif EDIT (last one i promise!) since i DON'T feel like i'm on a diet and i'm just living my life healthily, i don't see how i can regain.

  • People who say they've tried to lose weight all their lives but have had no success are still making excuses as far as i'm concerned. they just didnt have the heart to change their bodies. or the will, or the knowledge or the passion.

    not on their own.

  • Also, when you lost weight before surgery, what were you doing to maintain? unless you had a thyroid problem WLS is not a good option. it's not a good option unless you are over 400 lbs or something.

I was 280. I am currently 180 and looking and feeling good. I'm losing weight EXACTLY like I plan to live. I'm not deprived, im more disciplined. I ran a 5K this morning. I don't have have skin sagging and don't anticipate any. I feel great. WLS is hardly EVER the answer.

  • @kittybookitty Statistics say your chances of regaining that 100 pds you lost are far greater than one who goes through WLS.

  • I can't wait to get to where you are.......thanks for this!!!! I'm finding I need to feel normal again, if that is possible post surgery, only a year to go to get where you are.. =D

  • I'm so glad i lost the weight on my own. i considered doing WLS but i stopped myself. i wouldn't want to get depressed as many patients do or regret the surgery altogether.

  • Love the makeup & hair! Congrats on not thinking too much about the surgery anymore, and maintaining.

  • Love that veggie t-shirt, it looks adorable on you! So glad your medical stuff went well in Mexico, and that you finally stopped thinking constantly about having had WLS. Good thoughts about people wanting surgery as a quick fix - having looked at my weight curve and thought about all the diets and exercise and groups and hopeless attempts the past 19 years, I know I´ve tried every avenue I could think of. As usual, your vid is smart, honest and informative. Thanks!

  • Love your video! It is so true. I have battled with my weight since I was in my teens and now that I am 38 I have finally had WLS. WLS was a LAST line of defense for me...not a first. But at the end of the day, to each their own. Great video and you look fantastic!

  • AGREED! I too am a WLS (RnY) person ... almost a year out ... and that was brilliantly and accurately stated! Smart and thorough! A fantastically thoughtful upload!!!! Thanks

  • good video, very informative! Cute pooch!

  • Great video!!!! Your dog is soooooooo Adorable!!!!!!!!!! =) Cindy

  • great video-- i had lasic eye surgery also, in february!! i am so pleased with the results!!-- but you look greal! you look SO SKINNY!!!-- good for you!! yes surgery is very serious! and scary
