  • marijuana must be legalized!

  • marijuana is herbal. it has many benefits to the body. it can cure cancer, depression, frustration, and so many scientists have proven this conclusion.

  • drug free marijuana? that would be a breakthrough....

  • you're doing it wrong..

  • FUCK YOU GEORGE WEIBLEN YOU'RE TRING TO PLAY GOD KNOCK IT OFF. SAY NO TO GMO CANNABIS!!!!!!!!

  • wtf is the point of that?

  • Well, marijuana is Americas #1 Cash Crop, too bad its illegal. Hemp restores soil fertility so that aspect is very inviting I would hope that MN could be a leader in this new technology and manufacturing of raw hemp materials and thanks for pointing out that the hemp products we buy comes from imported hemp-stock.

  • OH NO HEMP HAS LIKE .5 to 1% THC. WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN? Seriously, you are never going to get a significant amount of THC in hemp, also, GUESS WHAT? Hemp looks different from marijuana....

  • yes boys and girls our dumb ass government buys industrial hemp from other countries because, the dumb ass government says that it has no medical value and is addictive. this plant is talked about there is no logical use for it by our government but yet we buy it from other countries. can you say hypocrites.

  • It's easy to distinguish marijuana from industrial hemp. The Big Thin Lie that's crippling organic agriculture in the US is that law enforcement would have a problem telling them apart. Google "global broiling, hemp" to find out why Cannabis isn't illegal -- it's essential.

  • Trying to get THC out of Marijuana....hmm, how about you go get some hemp. Problem solved idiots.

  • @Schlauton yes, there was industrial hemp plants here before it was prohibited and criminalized. they're too stupid to grow them again cuz they don't know how to grow plants with minimal thc

  • YES RETARDED AS IT MAY SEEM, WE IMPORT HEMP, WHAT A FUCKING DISCRACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Minnesota legalize marijuana!!!!!

  • umm why make a pill when we can eat a herb? why is man made necessarily better than natural?

  • It's time to drop the research on reducing cannabinoids and focus on their medicinal use. Don't let the pharmaceutical companies monopolize cannabis research! Remember, they're making a lot of money by keeping the natural source illegal. They fund research like this for that reason.

  • PEOI

  • It is time to legalize and free the cannabis plant as a whole. This plant is very beneficial.

  • they already have that, its called hemp

  • Watch "Rick Simpson run from the cure!"

A THC free cannabis plant is about as good as a man born with half a brain.

  • THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY

"More recently, scientists reported that cannabidiol, one of the chemicals found in marijuana, slows growth of breast cancer cells growing in laboratory dishes. However, this substance has not been tested in humans or even in animals that have cancer yet. Cannabidiol levels in marijuana are low, so any benefit from this compound would require use of a purified and concentrated form."

  • Proven in laboratory dishes but not willing to test on humans or animals!

A purified and concentrated form is RICK SIMPSON'S CANCER CURE HEMP OIL!!

Rick Simpson's Cancer Cure Hemp Oil is Cannabis extract full of Cannabinoids including THC.

Google "pubmed" / Enter words "Cannabinoids Cancer" ... 566 articles!

  • Some friends of mine came up with a good 7-minute video on why pot should be legalized. Take a look and if you think its a worthwhile video, send it to as many people as you can. Copy and paste these words into the search bar: obama natural medicine Tylenol

  • geneticaly enginerring plants will bite us in the ass in the long run ,

  • Really? There are maybe two arguments that I have ever heard that would support your statement. It is rare that the people who oppose GMOs even comprehend these arguments. When genetically modified plants are controlled properly (not hard at all) then the benefits overwhelmingly outweigh any downsides (usually the cost associated with developing the GMO).

  • watch 50 years down the road farmers are not allowed to have their own seeds anymore and must re buy them every year because they modified plants to not produce seeds. but the farmer will have to buy because of the pest mold resistance etc......... the good things that can be done with it are monumental , but you have to remember people are in charge. and it could just turn into some monopoly of control etc .... over the plant industry . .....do i sound paranoid enough ? hehe

  • 50 years down the road? I happen to own farmland in South Dakota and the farmers who rent the land buy the seed they use ever year. That includes corn and wheat, two of the largest crops in the US.

Monopolies will never be a problem because with the tools I have access to (they are somewhat ubiquitous), I could make a GMO in my basement. It's like saying Youtube is a breeding ground for video-monopolies.

  • I hope that they publish their findings on pubmed, it would be interesting top know which genes to over express to produce some ultra strong weed. Long live GM.

  • Yes, but then they'd just breed marijuana to look like the new, easily distinguishable "hemp" plant. Round and round we go. The whole species needs to be decriminalized.

  • who cares, marijuana shouldn't be illegal anyways, make it legal and stop worrying about it.

  • What a load of rubbish!

  • which train station is he at?

  • They should be finding out ways to genetically pump MORE thc into those badboy plants. It would make the world a better place for all

  • Maine just legalised hemp production hemp can bring in millions of dollars into Maine's economy. But Federal law prevents anyone from planting. Hempcrete is the building material of the future 7 times stronger than regular concrete, recyclable, and carbon neutral. The feds need to wake the fuck up and stop caring about their almost worthless dollar and help the planet and people for a change.

  • Canada legally grows industrial hemp. The type of hemp that he is promoting. Ironically they don't have a significant law enforcement issue because they great protocols in place to ensure farmers are using varieties that have only trace THC, including a genetic profile of low THC crops. I strongly suggest that genetic modification of the hemp plant is not the solution to potential law enforcement issues. Keep the GMOs out of my food.

  • or weed can just be legal

  • hey guys you realize he put his whole professional status on the line for researching something like this... 13+ of school down the drain imagine that. I'd like to see any stoner you-tuber that dedicated towards moving things forward.

  • but ultimately he's just capitulating to Big Brother's bullshit agenda for the drug war.

He's conforming to the tyranny of the government...for what? What is his reason for putting "his whole professional status on the line?"

    Easy...money.

  • Did you watch the video? He is doing this research because farmers currently can't farm the plant because of the THC, by removing it, he can help create a viable industry for a plant that produces hemp, which in turn, can produce many, many more products.

He's not telling you to quit doing what you do, he is merely trying to help farmers support themselves without getting accused of growing marijuana.

  • Yeah I understand what he's trying to do...and I think it's technically a good thing, a step in the right direction.

BUT...it seems to me that our first order of business should be to force an end to this "drug war" against marijuana.

That would take care of the root issue while at the same time allowing farmers to grow industrial hemp.

It seems like going through ALLLL the research needed to genetically alter hemp genes so that farmers can grow the crop misses the main point.

  • Hey Herbal, you make a good point, but pick your battles. Over all this is a huge plus because if a hemp industry was created again in the US, it would help soften the public's anxiety about the drug.

  • yeah ur right. sometimes i just feel like i can't stomach this tyranny with their bullshit agenda anymore.

  • Did you know that you're glass of orange juice contains more alcohol, and your poppy seed bagel has more opiates than any hemp food product on the market? There are numerous varieties of hemp that have low THC, law enforcement officials just over the border in Canada have no problem telling the difference between industrial hemp and marijuana. Personally I don't think playing with the genetics of hemp benefits anyone outside of Monsanto. Certainly not the farmers.

  • Legalize it.

  • This dudes a fag. You know it's the hornier the female plant is, the more potent she gets.

  • these fuckers are trying to improve on nature. when we know it can't be improved on. there is nothing wrong with marijuana now so just legalize it .

  • Marijuana Can Save The World Fuel Energy Saves Trees Creates Jobs No Deaths from Marijuana Marijuana Plastic Is 10 Times Stronger Then Steel $14 Billions Per Year from Tax Payers In California Alone Medical Marijuana Helps Cancers, Diseases and All Treatments HEMP PLASTIC CAR VIDEO LINK> /watch?v=NIRWs0Ep2-o PASS IT ON!!!
  • I wanna smoke it!

I want 99% thc can you do it?

oh man one love! Im so high on kush :]

  • Stupid ass how's he gonna talk about a plant being so miraculous and yet hate it's main quality thc. When they gonna realize that the most harmful thing about marijuana is jail.

  • Hey Retards.. Hemp has a CBD that actually block the marijuana high... We need to stop companies like monsonto from from screwing with nature.. Nature will take care of its self..

  • It's fucking retarded to do this due to the fact that its a plant that is suppose to grow this way because of mother nature. Removing THC from marijuana plants is like keeping trees from growing leaves

  • Mother nature also has Male brutally killing the cubs of nursing mothers. The only problem resulting from messing with nature is that we usually don't understand all the interrelations in biomes and fail to understand all the things we are messing with. This is particularly a problem in population biology where these nuances are amplified. When a GMO is effectively isolated from the wild type populations, these problems are completely avoided.

  • Total waste of time and money. Hemp needs a small amount of THC .05% - 1% in the plant. The THC is one reason hemp doesn't need nearly any pesticides it also makes fabric stronger, uv protective, and mildew resistant. Why make it harder to thirve? So lets not make an excuse to use more pesticides and getting a crappier product because people are worried about a plant having any THC at all. You could smoke a whole field of industrial hemp WITH 1% THC in it and only get a headache. Get Real

  • lick my sac ya douche ass tard and legalize already

  • Complete waste of time and money

  • Learning what genes are important in THC synthesis can teach you not only how to make a THC-free plant, but also how to make a plant that overproduces THC. When considering medical applications of THC, these GMOs could make medicinal marijuana much more potent reducing the damage associated from the smoke (though there are other ways to avoid this).

  • Yeah, but theyre not using it to increase THC are they. My point is all they have to do is legalize the fucking plant instead of catering to a century old propaganda machine that still brainwashes people to this day.

  • I agree. Yet as a molecular biologist, I am rather annoyed that they have very little understanding of the biological synthesis of cannabinoid compounds. If this work leads us to understanding these synthetic pathways, I consider it a good thing. After all the human genome project rested on such dubious claims of relevancy, though it does make the research biologists life much easier.

  • I'm pretty sure we've reached a plateau in thc production, there are some plants bred for very high thc production out there.

  • Genetic Engineering offers so much more than simple hybrids can and that is what I assume most past work has been done on.

  • what's out there is perfect for growing at the moment, for fiber, seed or medecine, they don't need to engineer anything, there are plants that will thrive in the midwest, and the point about breeding different looking plants is bs, plants grown for fiber already look quite different ( longer internodes )

they let them sell you 'their' solution, the solution is already out there.Although breeding for chemotype is a little trickier with proper testing it is not out of reach for amateur breeders

  • That's as ignorant as saying that 'I have a computer that does everything I need, so people shouldn't waste money on Computer Research and Development.'

In the sciences this would severely limit our ability to advance, and in the Biomedical sciences (where this study would fall) such a limit to progress would cost lives.

  • everything he's talking about as already been achieved through conventional breeding, the plant's been used for thousands of years,if you look at a field of cannabis grown for fiber you simply can't mistake it for a field grown for medecine ( drugs ).

'hemp' is legally grown in a number of countries, the USA is way behind. I welcome research but there is no reason to wait for more research before cultivation of fiber-type or seed oil cannabis is legalized.

  • Agreed, I just think a systems biology understanding of cannabanoid synthesis would be a large step in the right direction - even if the researchers use an uninformed justification.

  • @PeoplesVendetta ya whyz you gots to fuck wit my chronic?

  • Noooo!!! why are you gonna go and do that? Take the THC out of weed.

  • Drug content my ass...OMFG LEGALIZE it!!!! "ILLEGAL" Weed is so stupid I'm just wondering when there going to make stuff like dandelions illegal cause i can sure smoke and could get hight of them....it just the government trying to make money even though LEGALIZING weed could boost our economy!!!!

  • Please, for the love of God, go smoke dandelions. Hundreds of them. PLEASE DO IT!

  • ironic that you could smoke poison ivy if you wanted to, but not weed. prohibition has nothing to do with public health.

  • If there was a problem with people smoking poison ivy, they would outlaw it. But there's not. Your logic is inexplicably flawed to you.

  • unfortunately it is prohibition that is flawed because the "problem" of cannabis use has increased steadily for the 40 years that it has been prohibited.

  • Yes, and alcohol usage increased when it was prohibited, as well. I don't seem to think you had a point.

  • that is simply my point, if usage increases then the policy isn't conducive to public health.

  • Actually there is a problem with smoking poison ivy - pneumonitis so extreme that your immune system would turn your lungs to swiss cheese.

  • I don't mean to over comment here, but just look at the "related videos"! You have done a great service to getting at the truth of the matter. Thank you for your "Marijuana Gateway" video! PEACE.

  • MNice study. But, every stoner has known that for ages. I wonder how much money was spent on this already known, and obvious knowledge?

I've got an idea. Why don't we stop screwing around and LEGALIZE it, for all uses, no matter how much THC. And actually the more THC the better, as RICK SIMPSON has shown, THC Oil cures cancer. It reduces cancerous tumors and allows the body to heal itself.

Perhaps that's another study for the U to undertake.

    (cont...)

  • Put the task to Dennis McKenna, Ph.D at the U of M Center for Spirituality and Healing. And make it a research project at The Institute for Advanced Study (another fine U of M initiative).

I'm sure you'll find rather quickly that Rick Simpson is correct, and you have the cure for cancer on your hands.

"Weeding out Marijuana" is foolish. Let it proliferate as it would naturally.
