  • the most beautiful ending scene.

  • @forloveoffilm - Thanks for the info.Always good to know where the real credit should go. Same with Taxi Driver - the 2nd unit did the opening for that film not Scorsese.

  • they're writing songs of love but not for me ! the hair falling and then being tucked back behind her ear and the sad eyed smile are movie perfection ! even though he is a self centered dick in the film

  • The music at the end is 'Rhapsody in Blue'. It is Gershwin's love poem to New York. It is used throughout the film. Take a look at the opening sequence to see Allen's brilliance as a director. His opening montage showing his love for New York is exceptional.

  • @PZK12 The vast majority of the opening montage was the work of 2nd unit DP Fred Blankfein and, of course, Susan Morse, the editor.

  • What song plays at the end?

  • sublime

  • what magic. I agree one of the great moments in film. great ending. Allen has a gift for picking the perfect music to accompany his films. the music just makes it perfect.

  • his smile after her last sentence..is beyond price

  • I thought at the start that this whole video was a loop of Allan running past two different cars

  • fuckin magic.. cant say no more

  • one of the great, most memorable film endings of all time

  • Magic. Fucking....magic.

  • this end make me cry

  • I do love how obviously Woody borrowed from the last scene in Charlie Chaplin's "City Lights" with that last unspoken hesitating grin. Despite the homage, it is unmistakably Woody Allen.

  • Also, the part where Woody first sees her through the glass is taken exactly from City Lights. both classics!!

  • Exactley. That why I love it.

  • I love when her hair falls forward at 3:34-3:40 and he moves it back behind her ear. Beautiful and clearly unscripted.

  • yea, me too.

  • woody allen + gershwin = a dream come true

  • this might be the best film ever made

  • classic film, but def not the best ever

  • IDTV: Well if you wanna be technical, you can't name any one film 'the best ever'.

There are too many great ones to choose from, in my opinion. ;)

  • But the key word is "choose." the greatest film ever is whatever you choose it to be for yourself. you could say that Freddy Got Fingered is the greatest film of all time, and that would be completely valid!

Apocalypse Now is still the best movie ever for me

  • Denhams: Well I don't mind if someone is using it in reference to themselves, but what I don't like are people who talk as though theirs is the definite, objective 'best'. If you know what I mean.

  • TEARS. EVERY GODDAMN TIME.

  • "You have to have a little faith in people" that's a great line for a film. Unfortunately in the real world when you do all that trust gets thrown right back at you. Still Allen's best film.

  • I like that it was sort of an open ending.

  • "Everybody gets corrupted.. You have to have a little faith in people" This has to be one of the greatest movies ever made.

  • I don't think I've ever seen music so well incorporated into a movie.

    Still my favorite WA film!

  • i'll just copy what tigerlilly21 said in a previous post "this ending gives chills. "you have to have a little faith in people" combined with Allen's look and then the music. Perfect ending." yup.

  • Every middle-aged man's horny fantasy...to have a pretty teen adoring them! lol

  • Normally, I would hate an ending like this, but with this movie, I thought they couldn't have done a better job

  • This scene is one of the few in which I like a character played by Woody Allen, as opposed to finding him funny or wise in a cynical/pessimistic way.

  • this ending gives chills. "you have to have a little faith in people" combined with Allen's look and then the music. Perfect ending.

  • This is one of my favorite Woody Allen movies of all time. Great acting, such funny dialog.

  • Mariel Hemingway is so beautiful. She was so lovely. That is the great irony of the movie: she is the youngest character, but she is the most mature person in the whole movie.

  • THAT...IS...ART!

  • that's fuckin' beautiful.

  • Great ending to a great film.

  • man, i love this movie.. one of my favourites.. reminds me of true love...

i love gershwin and i love woody...

  • there's everything. then there's the island of manhattan.

  • the opening sequence is great , but this is the killer scene . when her hair falls from behind her ear and he replaces it is so moving. and the look he gives that he holds and turns into a smile is beautiful. i was 15 when i first saw this film (1985) and it has stuck with me since - he hates it nut what does he know !

  • priceless

  • One of the best parting scenes ever written for the cinema. Brilliant editing.

  • One of my favorite films and one of the best scenes.

  • The tracking-shot has always been a favourite of mine. I get an operatic feeing washing over me whenever I watch Manhattan.
