  • Fucking careless assholes need to learn how to put out their campfires...

  • people shuld not live in a dense bush area it is just stupid, apart from the damage caused to the land by being there, there is also a risk of fire. So they remove a whole block of lands trees for what? 3-5 people. Then they go and do it again and again...that is not sustainable living.

  • You don't get it.

Living amongst nature is sustainable - filling the whole planet with ever increasing populations of people that need the same resources is not.

Anyhow, I grew up in an area where the fires swept through and living in the country helped me appreciate nature. City dwellers like you have no clue.

  • You really are a dropkick arent you. So your saying everyone should live in large cities? So whos going to grow fruit and veggies. Whos going to farm the land? What city people who commute for 4 hours a day? Bury your head back in the sand and continue to be uneducated or realistic

  • nobody should be farming in victoria as the climate is completely wrong here to farm.

  • WTF are you talking about? So much produce comes from the north of Victoria and has done, quite well, for the last 150 years. The areas around Marysville were built in the days of woodlogging and in fact theres still areas that depend on this for income. So as for your statement that Victorias climate is completely wrong to farm is a complete crock of shit. Best you keep quiet about subjects you have no idea on.

  • yer thats because all the good farming land has been made into fucking cities

  • its not that the shouldnt live there it's they should be more prepaired for fires. it me be a nice view but it will burn one day

  • troll

  • Good on you idiot. It's that exact attitude that saw you get in trouble with Emporor Hirhito in World War 2. Haven't you learnt your lesson you fool?

  • people shouldnt be living in a dense bush area to begin with, its much more enviromentally friendly to live in a town and safer.

  • It is environmentally friendly to cram 100 x as many humans in concrete blocks where nature must be cleared. I think not!

  • yeah but a lot less damage is done by clearing a small area for 100x people, rather than clearing a whole block for one family.

  • 100 people waste resources. 10 people can live sustainably amongst the trees. They can also reuse most things. City people defer their guilt to the country, but if everybody lived amongst the trees (as it were) then the world would not be burdened with overpopulation and the trappings of unsustainable over consumption.

  • lol you are white too. although considered "yellow, or xanthous" your colour is still the same as ours.

  • What do you think you will achieve by straight forwardly insulting a nation, no, a RACE of people? Especially Aus right now. Cold, heartless Japanese. As cold as the water you harvest whales in and as heartless as you make the poor creatures. So, why is it exactly that you find satisfaction in others' misfortunes? Youre either a very lonely person, a pervey overweight junkie, or, a failure! Hmm. I vote all three! As I said to the last turd who insulted Austrailans; NEVER come to Aus. Not welcome

  • @mrgrumpy02 AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE, winge, winge, winge, Go and shop at coles or safeway, mate, So ya Aussie doller can go to china. Australia has lost its way because of polliticaly correct arseholes like your self. We are not the lucky country any more, mate. By the way, give me a whale meat sandwitch any day and ill eat the fucker. Have a nice day.

  • @MrPoohey78 good reply

  • great footage, although it looks like it could be anywhere between about 1965 and 1980, unless it's a non-victorian bushfire crew. Victoria had the CFA after the 39' fires, these guys look like they're metro firefighters. their accents also suggest late 60's-70's.

the problem was that they were applying methods that had been developed for fighting structural fires to bushfires! these days we know alot more about bushfires and have developed dedicated methods of fighting such fires.

  • they mentioned the megalong valley and blackheath - thus NSW

  • ah, that explains everything :P

nah seriously, they were behind the times for a long time, still are in many ways.

  • A bit like pissing in the wind! Helicopters are not allowed to fly at night, some stupid Gov Reg. Yes building houses and screening the windows (where 80 % of fires cause the premise to burn ) would be a good start. Make power companies more responsible as its their power lines that cause the majority of fires. Exelent vid and thanks for posting.

  • thats nuts

  • why don't they build houses that wont burn? and for oxygen they'll need to store it when there's none to breathe.

  • Houses that won't burn?

    What?

  • Im reading Bush-fire; I thought W. wend up in smoke, not such a luck

  • it started because some lebos bashed up a lifeguard in cronulla or maroubra. thats what started it all, aussies sticking up for themselves

  • Would you like a mint for that whale-breath?

  • Save it, possum food.

  • good stuff!

  • What is?

  • this is some scary shit. i was looking for some fire shots of victoria. hope anyone who was effected by the ones yesterday condolences. must have been terryifying

  • Australia should buy a few Canadair water bombers.

  • We do, we are talking 1980 here!

  • yea we got a couple of heavy bombers but the scale of the last week was more than a fleet of bombers could handle - like tsurnami of fire, hurricane strength winds and record temps - thousands sq. miles

  • u is aussie, u too racist person.

    u aussie person hunt kangaroo.

    Please stop it.

u stop giving racism to Aborigine.

    Why u prefer evil comment?

    u not like other nation?

  • I used this in a school project 10 years ago!

  • those blokes had it tough back then they had nothing like toady...

  • This footage is from the movie A DANGEROUS SUMMER STARRING TOM SKERRIT AND IAN GILMOUR

  • This footage was used in Dangerous Summer, but it is archival, shot long before the movie. These clips are easily accessed through the various fire authorities in Australia at no charge.

  • Awesome!! I joined the NSWBFB I think in 1981 and was with Belrose Brigade and then Westleigh in the early 1990's in Sydney. Loved seeing it, brought back great memories. I live in So. California now and don't get to play anymore. True Heroes.

  • Hope you guys are using larger hoses nowadays...might make it easier for ya mates.

  • Some great old footage of the NSW Bush Fire Brigades as it was known in 1980 well done !
