  • One of the best of the southern artists of the 60s...

  • Joe South wrote this tune.

  • Back then the song HAD to be good enough

to be played. Unlike today when you scream

    and dance around like apes.

  • .40 (can't you people see I'm a starving artist?!? I mean literally!) If I be a poster child for the death camps, can I get a crust of bread please? The go-go girls were cool!

  • just messin with you guys... I am a butthole.

  • OMG great!!!

  • YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YAYUHHHHH. this song is weak. lick my balls.

  • @johnnyb713456 Wow? Really? This song is beautiful

  • Check out the GO-GO girls. The white boots are a dead give away. I had a pair just like them back in the day. If you were a guy you had to have Beatle boots!!!

My last name is Gomez. My girls all 3 are grown up now, but we had a friend that used to them the Go Go girls(Gomez get it?). My girls didn't have a clue what it meant.he he

  • yeah time 6,000... cheesy as hell. I heard this shitty piece of turd and had to know who was responsible. fuckin sucks!

  • @johnnyb713456 oh johnnyb you don't know great music go listen to lady GaGA

  • Great song

  • i was only 10 when this came out, and back then, i just listened to them, i didn't neccessarily know who they were by. so i'm surprized at just how many of my favorite songs are by this guy, amazing!!

  • I liked this song a lot.

  • Great song ... didn't know he had done it, and love his version ... Thanks for posting ... Wayne

  • I loved every song that came out of the Sixties. Some more than others but Billy Joe was right up there on the top when he did release a hit.

  • FYI: SONG WRITTEN BY JOE SOUTH. FREDDY WELLAR WAS HIS GUITAR PLAYER

  • one of his best songs

  • What Music Show was this from?

  • @winyguy

    Shindig 1965.

  • @tumsabai1 Thank You Very Much.

  • Great song, plus cool interracial theme (for 1965).

  • I Played bass Guitar for Billy Joe back in the 60's when he had a hit with Down In The Boondocks.

    God bless.

  • Love this song. One of his best. The man can sing. Danced to this as a young teen, all you worried about was whether some guy would ask you to dance and be able to smell is English Leather Cologne lol which they took a bath in most of the time lol

  • His "Tell It Like It Is" album is absolutely great. Every cut is great. This man has put out some fantastic albums. Only thing is he doesn't know how to sing a "happy" song; they're all sad. "Out of the Shadows" and "They Royal Treatment" are great albums as well.

  • Billy Joe Royal's Album ia titled "Tell it like it is", I hope that helps you Peeps.

  • One time on the radio, the DJ played an OUTSTANDING version of "Tell it like it is

by Billy Joe Royal, but You Tube Doesn't have it.

I only heard it ONCE on a country station. I don't know where to go to look for it

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

  • I LOVE ITTTTTTTTTT!!! AWESOME

  • I played keyboards for BJ during the summer of '98... this is absolutely one of my all-time favorite records... oddly (to me anyway) we only did this song one time.. always closed with Boondocks though :O).

Without a doubt one of the nicest artists I ever worked with... and I was in Nashville 22 yrs. Not all of them were so "nice"... but that was a fun gig... good memories ;o) ... whoever finds these videos, thanks :O) ...

  • What a voice! I worked with Gary Puckett for a nice stretch in the 80's and we just missed doing some dates with BJR. I wished they'd have happened. Looks like he's still hanging in there in good health and voice.

Good for him and all the brilliant artists who made that such a magical time for music!

  • i have his autograph from when i was like four. aha.

  • Is that the Blossoms?

  • I think u r RIGHT!!!!!

  • BJR is wonderful in person, and such a nice man.

  • 60`s rule.......everything else sucks!

  • Got that right!

  • @sheraton114 you are 100% correct, best times of my life,as we said then it was a GROOVY TIME

  • @sheraton114 Everything else does NOT suck and there's good music created in all decades (depending on your tastes), but I agree that the 60's had a lot of great songs! :)

  • @tall32guy there you go. if he would have just said, " '60s rule"! and left it at that; cool. but why he had to throw in such a stupid negitive comment like that,"everything else sucks"! just really negates his whole statement.

  • well there was a lot of drug use in the 60's lol

but seriously when the people look back they think the dancing, clothes nad hairstyles look funny.

Back then the girls were hot and sexy.

    Anything positive to say?

  • Joe South wrote this song. Joe also wrote Down In The Boondocks.

  • Great Song...!@!

  • he says when or win ??? I don't understand...

  • when

  • thanx!

  • Yes, garymichael, he is truly a wonderful warm person. My husband has opened for him all over the south about 9 times and he is always sweet!

  • oh my do I ever love his voice

  • Billy Joe still sounds good! Saw him Feb.22 in SC!

  • Awesome song and vocal performance. It should have been grammy nominated !

  • Didnt need the girls... he is great with just the music

  • I hosted a show with BJR about 3 years ago. Truly..one of nicest people in the music business!!!

  • Thank you for this!!!!
