The area needs 2-3x as much water to grow anything because of the salty soil. Also, the aquifers / water tables are depleted in the area--which we don't allow to recharge.
@YusefX1 also, every time we irrigate that soil it becomes more saline, we are pushing it too hard too fast and it's approaching critical mass. It's not all about this "little fish" and its much deeper than that. We don't have much water, and the soils on the west side of the valley badly, badly need fallow. I do the pest control for the schools. I think they spent like a couple million on that library. The new junior high will open this year. I was told by some of the school workers that the big wig at the superintendent of the schools knows how to get the grants for the projects and that the schools aren't hurting for money. Now Firebaugh is a different story. That city has been small (8000) and the least desirable to live in fresno county. BTW the mayor works at the food center, no kidding.

The Central Valley, including the City of Mendota, has heard great news that Westlands Water District, and the local farmers that they serve, will be receiving a 40% allocation of water.

40% water increase with their 12 inches of rain per year they will return to what they should have been all along non-farming land. These types of artificially supported farming areas need to stop.

Very interesting video. Las Vegas NV is in a severe drought. Very scary times we live in. Unemployment is very high here as well. The difference here in Las Vegas is that the jobs are low paying despite all the visitors who come here to gamble. Every other house is a foreclosure. Once upper middle class neighborhoods, now abandoned ghost towns.

I do the pest control for the schools. I think they spent like a couple million on that library. The new junior high will open this year. I was told by some of the school workers that the big wig at the superintendent of the schools knows how to get the grants for the projects and that the schools aren't hurting for money. Now Firebaugh is a different story. That city has been small (8000) and the least desirable to live in fresno county. BTW the mayor works at the food center, no kidding.

As someone else posted, California is naturally a dry, harsh environment.
I visited the Hoover Dam (east of CA in a different state) and someone stated in conversation that the dam benefitted big farmers in California and hurt farmers south of the dam. The water was redirected. Fortunes were lost south of the dam, and created west of the dam.
If the water can be used more economically in a more natural location, maybe it is better to use it elsewhere.

Not only because of the sins and imperfections of people. But especially from the elite and their dark spiritual masters. And what has foretold in Bible Prophecy and confirmed in history.
