    2 things

    The balance between voice en orchestra.

    a good example of balancing pop voice and orchestra in my opinion is Peter Gabriel's Mirrorball.

    I would advice you to listen carefully to your composition without the timpany and cymbals.close your eyes and just listen.

    The use of Cymbals and timpani always need a distinctive reason, mostly in musical sense they are a last resort.
