Post-Punk: Joy Division, The Sound, Jawbreaker

  • @d3thomega Ok ok, Jus read on a website that they are considerd Post-Punk. Don't know why

  • beutiful (spell please)

  • @outlawformetal614 beautiful

  • Sounds a bit like 1970's Camel....which is good.

  • @Keith1867 Listen to Salt the Skies, that song makes me think of a 60/70's spy song

  • anyone know what city/country that is?

  • @FallopianY0UTUBE

I am reasonably sure this is San Francisco, judging by all the electrical muni lines in the air and by a few of the buildings I can recognize. Also, there's a shot where he's on a waterfront, and at 1:13 you can see him ride up a relatively steep road, both hallmarks of sf. They do a pretty good job of avoiding landmarks though

  • boa sorte agora pra todos nos...

  • Wow! This song is so full of butterflies and suggestion. It feeds the imagination. The video should be taught in a film school editing class. Amazing. Just discovered this band from the suggestions for a Fiery Furnace vid.

  • this video would be perfect for a skate clip

    it probably already is

  • looks like San Francisco and does sound a bit like Camel

  • Να παραγωγη παραγωγένια..Soundtrack.

  • I was hoping for something original. It never came.

  • I could totally imagine this having lyrics but it's awesome because it doesn't

  • great photography with an elegant and simple concept

  • Reminds me of Soft Machine a little bit.

  • when prog rock & acid jazz collide - but in a smooth way...

  • @TeehpodT when prog rock & acid jazz coalesce, you mean :)

  • @andrewneedsalawn Yeah, that's the word I was lacking.

  • what city is this

    /\\?

  • sounds like video game music

  • video game music? there's no such thing. music in video games are just songs from artists which the game devlopers like or think suits the game

  • @rawfflecakes most of the music for NES and genesis and snes was specifically made for the video games.

  • @rawfflecakes Have you ever played... video games? Apart from GTA and Guitar Hero, what you've said is almost universally untrue.

  • haha, it makes happy :D

  • which album is this on?

  • Beacons of Ancestorship, their last.

  • They were fucking amazing at Lee's Palace last Thursday.

  • i took your advice and started watching freedom to fascism in another window, while tortoise was still playing in this window, and they mixed up nicely!!! thanks. i will check out everything on your list

  • wow, suena genial, esa guitarra octaveada es la mamada, y el baterista de sea & cake toca de poca, con sus influencias de jazz, sin palabras con la rola.

  • this is so fuckn beautiful!

  • are you sure that's los angeles?

  • Tortoise. Excelente. Lindo. Inesquecível. Tortoise

  • love tortoise

  • sounds like a lost NES game riff. In a good way.

  • Lol, totally. Check out The Advantage on here if you want to hear some cool live reproductions of classic video game music, like, Castlevania, or Megaman. Pretty kick ass stuff, and then check out Hella. It's the drummer's other band.

  • El próximo miércoles en el Palau de la Música!!

  • excelente video; lasa tomas son muy buenas. Y la canción ni que decir mas que "que poderosa".

  • adorable lines!

  • great video! great music!

  • this song is an adventure. where was that filmed?

  • San Francisco.

  • the song is great! my favourite of beacons,... but the video is not very surprising, not very original...

I prefer the live performances, absolutely!

    Tortoise is MY FAVOURITE BAND!!!

  • I really enjoy Tortoises music

  • their live-performance is absolutely superb + they've played a load of extras yesterday in berlin!

    5*

  • anyone knows a song by Tortoise that ends like a "electro samba" ( i just caught the last minute on the radio)

  • i think that was gigantic if it was on zan roes show.

  • saw them yesterday in hamburg...awesome!

  • Shit. I want to see them Live!!! Absolutely!! Tortoise come in Italy one time!!!!! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAASE!!! :(

  • Tortoise rules

  • or Frank Zappa

  • sounds like Return to Forever

  • This video singlehandedly has inspired me to get out in to the city and take photos. Hopefully I can find things approaching the beauty they show here.

  • Wow! Love Tortoise and loving all the Bay Area imagery used in this video. SFO (esp. the parking elevator w/ Helvetica 9!), the Cathedral, the Pyramid, the Berkeley Marina, the MUNI lines, the BART "bubbles", the Broadway Tunnel (maybe?), the Embarcadero Buildings, One Maritime, the new De Young and the concrete sculpture out in the garden, the tunnel by the Conservatory of Flowers even? Excellent!

  • I saw them last night in NY... Brilliant!

  • yes, i love drumming

  • their drummer is sick

  • back to goods. good job tortoise. best band ever.

  • Great video! It's good to see Tortoise back doing what they do best.

  • very nice composition. i love the way they put the stand angle. and the textures was great.

  • sounds like King Crimson

  • i love the cinematography

  • Too much beautiful !!

  • this is pretty much what I picture whenever I listen to Tortoise

  • yes !

  • excelenttttttttttttttttttt

    ;)

  • the new album is just as good as the rest. i never understood why i loved these guys that much until i saw this vid. now i see that they and the people they work with try to see the surrounding environment in different ways just like architects do.

    and i'm an architect :)

  • i like the video

    great shapes and patterns

  • ARCHITECT!

  • i usually hate b/w but this really is something different
