  • ive never seen a bass trigger like that on an electric kit

  • @cobaltsn00py Most of the newer electronic kits use a more traditional upright trigger. The drum pedal is normal, it just takes a special beater. The rubber pad has a gel insert and a piezo trigger underneath it. The good thing about them is they are easy to repair (I've only had one go bad, but a few bucks a radio shack got me a new trigger).

  • Thanks for your video. great drumming

  • Thanks for your video. great drumming

  • Thanks so much for your time to teach. I'm trying to play along with David Weckl and his timing is so amazing. I hope to learn timing here so I can understand Weckl a little better. thanks!

  • EASY! -LOL

  • 5:50 OYYYYY!! ROFL

  • DID you JUST STOP THE ELECTRONIC RIDE WITH YOUR HAND? Wow, thats cool. They're coming along way with those! Thanks for the lessons!

  • Yes, the Vdrums have two triggers one in the pad proper and one in the rim. When you grab the rim it chokes the cymbal sound if the patch you are using is set up for it (most of the crash cymbals are set up for it). I am out of practice for doing it well so sometimes you'll see me grab but the cymbal doesn't choke.

  • i don't like it

  • This is a good lesson for me, especially since I'm trying to learn drums on my own. Thanks.

  • thanks for the lessons ,apreciate that, great

  • great lessons! thanks very much for you time to teach them to us! linear is so much fun to play, the groove is fantastic :D

  • I play acoustic drums for 2 reasons

1 i cant afford the other

2 i like the look of them and the sound is so real and it sounds slightly different werever u hit it

  • i hear you my man i have nothing against the electrics y just prefer the acoustic for te one reason ive always played one as well as the different sounds you can make with slight changes on the place of articulation

  • i think it would be fun for a while to play on a electric set. but acoustic i feel like i have COMPLETE control over. instead of hearing the same thing everytime i hit a pad (i know its a litte different but not by much

  • yeah thats true as well i dont like the whole dynamics of it and the fact that the cymbal pads make a weird noice that is louder than the drums, finally the having to use an amp just doesnt click with me

  • yeah. plus you can modify your set anyway you want. like stuffing your bass or not stuffing it. or puttin the wrings on the toms and snare to get rid of echo and sometimes echo is cool.

  • The pad noise is my fault. I recorded with a lavalier mic so you could hear my voice and the amp. I should have just turned the PA up. When practicing I just use headphones. Listen to the funk beat lesson to hear the drums mic'd direct (no pad noise) . In terms of amps, when my band plays live my acoustics are always mic'd through the PA so acoustics won't let you avoid amps (unless you only play very small venues). Still acoustics are more fun.

  • we were just talking about preferences abd i know that drums need to get micked for large venues but at the level of amateur i dont think i need mics yet

  • same drum kit as thomas lang? thomas lang signature sticks? coinkydink? learn off cobham. he kills it. i met thomas lang, he has a big chin and no sense of humor. this beat sounds like you hit the demo button on an early 90's casio. no offence.

  • always easier to go from acoustic to vdrums. theyre alot of fun though. but nothing beats the love for acoustic sets!

  • Thanks alot for this man, learnt it easily enough - sounds good!

As for people going on about the V Drums - personally i think its a myth that "you cant play acoustic drums if you can play V Drums".

I learnt on acoustic and transferred to Roland with no trouble whatsoever. Feels and plays almost exactly the same - thats why they're so expensive!

You could do with getting yourself a VH-11 HH or something though man, much better than using a PD-8!

  • If I ever use the V-Drums playing live again, or for recording (other than youtube) I probably would upgrade both the hi-hat pads and cymbal pads.

I agree with you, I have a friend that learned and practiced exclusively on V-Drums and has no problems when he plays on an acoustic kit.

  • It's easier on the drum than in paper theory was always so boring :)Nice job thanks!

  • Thanks so much for writing it out.

  • Very interesting. Thanks for sharing!

OH, and way to remove ur comment douche..

    :)

  • haha yeah we got a tough shot over here on youtube.

"bury yourself before i come do it for you"

hahahahahahah...calm the fuck down you little prick.

    jesus

  • Comment removed

  • haha chill dude, whether hes good or not there is no reason to be like that

  • linear beats dont have anything that touches together... no two drums touch together

  • C'mon man, it's nice to be nice. Drummers belong to a community. This is very helpful to beginners who can fine tune their touch and feel later.

Anyway Roland V-drums are very unforgiving, and (imo) if one learned on an acoustic, it's very hard to adapt. This is his practice kit, I'm sure. Try to be constructive.

  • Thanks - you might be the first person to post that realizes I probably own more than one drum kit. The song at the beginning was recorded on acoustic drums so you'd think that might be a clue.

  • Why would expect there to be ghost notes in a lesson on linear beats? Did you miss the point of linear beats? You sound like you must be a good drummer, so you do the lesson on Ghost notes.

  • wow, wat is up with the bass???

    but ya good lesson

  • I really liked your video lessons. But I just thought that not only the snare on 2 has to be dotted but also u have to have 8th rests on 3& and 4&. Am i right?

  • Yes on all counts to make just the combined bass/snare line syntactically correct - I was trying to emphasize the linear nature by showing the beats of the snare/bass/cymbal all combined so I showed the dot for 2 as the (e) along the bottom and the two eight notes on the cymbal are on the and of 3 and 4.

  • amazing

  • at :42 , im guessing the dog came into the room and its dog tags were rattling. am i right ? great lesson

  • Wow, do you have good hearing. That's probably right, I don't remember anymore but I do remember the dog coming into the room in one lesson and I had to edit her out.

  • when it gets faster how do u play without using slide

  • you kinda look like george cloony

  • nice it like rice

  • this beat is awesome i actually used it in a song lol...thanks =P

  • thats great... go unlce tod... you are the BOMB!!!!

  • da bomb

  • so this is a Linear Beat? I was playing a variation of this beat and I never knew it.

  • I can't stop staring at you foot pedal lol.. - Marc A

  • awesome lesson, but in all seriousness, try not to use the word "beat" all the time. Especially in the intro of this lesson

  • Really? It's hard not to use the word beat when talking about drum beats. I'll have to go watch and count the usage. What drives me crazy is I say "OK" way too much.

  • Shut the hell up. He's doing a great job.

  • your great uncle tod!!! i like beat its help me a lot!!! thanks:)

  • Yes it should. I do wish I never made mistakes but perfection seems to have eluded me. Hopefully not too many people were confused by this.

  • Hey thanx for the "lesson" stevie. Here's a novel idea maybe next time you can take the time-out to CREATE A VIDEO of your OWN to teach us how to read notes! Last I checked you don't have one video posted. Tx Uncle Tod keep up the good Work!

  • yo' da man uncle tod!!!!!!!

  • what's the name of the intro song?

  • The intro/outro song is "Snatch it back" you can hear the full version of it on my band's web site. The meat of the web site name is scoopdevilleband. YouTube won't seem to post my comment if I put in anything to close to a real URL (There is a link on my YouTube channel page - upper left corner in the gray text area, right at the bottom.

  • you got yourself some good songs , uncle todd. I like listening to this. Is it possible to download this or is it a pay and listen deal?

  • I like your electronic kit! I have one too, but not as good as yours

  • i like how you grab the electronic drum pad after you hit it and it sounds like techno

  • If I do it right, grabbing the edge of the cymbal pads is supposed to mute it, like a real cymbal. It is also just a habit from playing acoustic drums, when a song ends you often want to kill the ringing of your cymbals.

  • thx a lot man. All your videos have been most helpful. keep on giving some good beats!!!

  • hah That's sounds hot with the voice kit!

  • Hey someone who finally likes my electronic kit! Thanks.

  • wow awesome i actually figured this beat out on my own (im self taught) and figure this out after about 7 months...nonetheless its awesome and btw thanks to ur lesson # 5 i learned how to read and write drum music! Very much appreciative!!!

  • nice beats man but for absolut beginner its to heavy

  • Exactly correct. I would say only my first 5 lessons are strictly beginner lessons.

  • uhm...nice writing the notes uncle tob lol :D

  • hey agen.. abit off topic but have u got any tips on gettin the correct tightnees or looseness of the bass pedaal as i cant seem to get it jus ryt

  • thanks man. good beats like all the other ones in your videos. keep them coming man.

  • um...

i dont read music so this is kinda confusing

  • Trying watching lesson 5. If that goes too fast check out onlinedrummer here on youtube. He goes through a lot of lessons on learning to read. It's a skill you should have, you'll thank me later!

  • You are awesome Uncle Tod! :D

I enjoyed your lesson very much again and i'm looking forward to the next vid!

    BTW! Looking good, sir!

    Cheers,
