@cobaltsn00py Most of the newer electronic kits use a more traditional upright trigger. The drum pedal is normal, it just takes a special beater. The rubber pad has a gel insert and a piezo trigger underneath it. The good thing about them is they are easy to repair (I've only had one go bad, but a few bucks a radio shack got me a new trigger).
Thanks so much for your time to teach. I'm trying to play along with David Weckl and his timing is so amazing. I hope to learn timing here so I can understand Weckl a little better. thanks!
Yes, the Vdrums have two triggers one in the pad proper and one in the rim. When you grab the rim it chokes the cymbal sound if the patch you are using is set up for it (most of the crash cymbals are set up for it). I am out of practice for doing it well so sometimes you'll see me grab but the cymbal doesn't choke.
i hear you my man i have nothing against the electrics y just prefer the acoustic for te one reason ive always played one as well as the different sounds you can make with slight changes on the place of articulation
i think it would be fun for a while to play on a electric set. but acoustic i feel like i have COMPLETE control over. instead of hearing the same thing everytime i hit a pad (i know its a litte different but not by much
yeah thats true as well i dont like the whole dynamics of it and the fact that the cymbal pads make a weird noice that is louder than the drums, finally the having to use an amp just doesnt click with me
yeah. plus you can modify your set anyway you want. like stuffing your bass or not stuffing it. or puttin the wrings on the toms and snare to get rid of echo and sometimes echo is cool.
The pad noise is my fault. I recorded with a lavalier mic so you could hear my voice and the amp. I should have just turned the PA up. When practicing I just use headphones. Listen to the funk beat lesson to hear the drums mic'd direct (no pad noise) . In terms of amps, when my band plays live my acoustics are always mic'd through the PA so acoustics won't let you avoid amps (unless you only play very small venues). Still acoustics are more fun.
we were just talking about preferences abd i know that drums need to get micked for large venues but at the level of amateur i dont think i need mics yet
same drum kit as thomas lang? thomas lang signature sticks? coinkydink? learn off cobham. he kills it. i met thomas lang, he has a big chin and no sense of humor. this beat sounds like you hit the demo button on an early 90's casio. no offence.

that sounds awfull!! where are the ghosts notes for the groove and you seem too stiff. you probably the worst drummer i have seen its close between you and tim connolly check that drummer out on youtube for a laugh!!!
C'mon man, it's nice to be nice. Drummers belong to a community. This is very helpful to beginners who can fine tune their touch and feel later.
Anyway Roland V-drums are very unforgiving, and (imo) if one learned on an acoustic, it's very hard to adapt. This is his practice kit, I'm sure. Try to be constructive.
Thanks - you might be the first person to post that realizes I probably own more than one drum kit. The song at the beginning was recorded on acoustic drums so you'd think that might be a clue.
Why would expect there to be ghost notes in a lesson on linear beats? Did you miss the point of linear beats? You sound like you must be a good drummer, so you do the lesson on Ghost notes.
I really liked your video lessons. But I just thought that not only the snare on 2 has to be dotted but also u have to have 8th rests on 3& and 4&. Am i right?
Yes on all counts to make just the combined bass/snare line syntactically correct - I was trying to emphasize the linear nature by showing the beats of the snare/bass/cymbal all combined so I showed the dot for 2 as the (e) along the bottom and the two eight notes on the cymbal are on the and of 3 and 4.
Wow, do you have good hearing. That's probably right, I don't remember anymore but I do remember the dog coming into the room in one lesson and I had to edit her out.
Really? It's hard not to use the word beat when talking about drum beats. I'll have to go watch and count the usage. What drives me crazy is I say "OK" way too much.
Hey thanx for the "lesson" stevie. Here's a novel idea maybe next time you can take the time-out to CREATE A VIDEO of your OWN to teach us how to read notes! Last I checked you don't have one video posted. Tx Uncle Tod keep up the good Work!
The intro/outro song is "Snatch it back" you can hear the full version of it on my band's web site. The meat of the web site name is scoopdevilleband. always easier to go from acoustic to vdrums. theyre alot of fun though. but nothing beats the love for acoustic sets!
AKTOROfficial 2 years ago
Thanks alot for this man, learnt it easily enough - sounds good!
As for people going on about the V Drums - personally i think its a myth that "you cant play acoustic drums if you can play V Drums".
I learnt on acoustic and transferred to Roland with no trouble whatsoever. Feels and plays almost exactly the same - thats why they're so expensive!
You could do with getting yourself a VH-11 HH or something though man, much better than using a PD-8!
stujlfc 2 years ago
If I ever use the V-Drums playing live again, or for recording (other than youtube) I probably would upgrade both the hi-hat pads and cymbal pads.
I agree with you, I have a friend that learned and practiced exclusively on V-Drums and has no problems when he plays on an acoustic kit.
