The Democrats had their chances to put Lieberman in his place by stripping of his chairmanship back in February. They had their chances and they blew it. This goes to show that Democrats will always be weak. The GOP may be stubborn and have the wrong view but at LEAST they can stick together. All that matters is what is in that final bill from the conference commitee. The only way you get back at Lieberman is for him to get voted out in 2012 when his re-election comes up.
Howard Dean says scrap the Senate bill. It's THAT bad. Once this pile of crap has passed they won't go back to the drawing board. Groundhog: You are right that ins.Comp's can't turn away pre-existing conditions, but the loop holes in the bill allow them to raise their rates instead, and if you can't afford the new rates, you still don't get the coverage. The lop holes are the problem-look at the stocks, look at the money- there is no cap to their fees, no regulation and no competition. Obama is a liar- i wish it wern't true!

First all the public options are removed from the bill. Then a mandate is added that requires all Americans to purchase coverage. How is this reform? Its a victory for the insurance companies. The Democrats had their chances to put Lieberman in his place by stripping of his chairmanship back in February. They had their chances and they blew it. This goes to show that Democrats will always be weak. The GOP may be stubborn and have the wrong view but at LEAST they can stick together. All that matters is what is in that final bill from the conference commitee. The only way you get back at Lieberman is for him to get voted out in 2012 when his re-election comes up.

@lewis493 I disagree! There are cost containments...Maybe not what many of us wanted but that does not mean improvements can't be made down the road. You will see more huge pluses in the coming days as the bills merge and the public is made aware of how the bill will help. This is a good start, PERIOD!

Hope you're right. However, I get the impression that Obama will back the senate version when the 2 bills merge. That's depressing as it means going down the route of having a purely private system (regulated or not) managing the health of our nation.

@lewis493 There is one HUGE FACT many of us liberals are completely overlooking...Our health care system has always been private & the "mind set" of +50% of the nation is FEAR of the government. So, Obama is fully aware of this fact so we have to change the system in baby steps. I know folks want everything at once but that is simply politically impossible right now. The insurance reforms in this bill are massive! Will they work in lowering cost? We will see?

However, right now the Blue Dogs are worried due to the GOP FEAR Machine making many in the country feel like Obama is just trying to take over the country. Many in this country are still under the GOP spell that all government is bad despite the FACT its not. Massive reform will take time Obama made that clear in the campaign!!

I want to see real, strong leadership that pushes for real change. This "change" being proposed is absolutely weak, and you need to take charge of the rebellious Democratic senators that are holding up real, positive reforms; those senators are KILLING 4,000 AMERICANS EVERY MONTH.
