Still can't watch that final scene with him falling without thinking about what happened next; he bounced off the 'safety' mattress (misplaced by crew) and damaged his back & knee really badly (ouch!!), meaning months of physio after. The look of utter surprise on his face is real, as the crew (under instruction from the director) caught him unaware before he was ready for his cue & just pushed him! It's testiment to AR that he never sued! (Then again, this did 'kick start' his movie career!)

PS 1 : During the whole movie, Hans carries a little notebook and, at times, writes things in it. What are they ?

PS 2 : check out for a Hans Gruber-like villain in "Sudden Death", played by Powers Boothe. Nice too !

The better the villain, the greater the movie. It always was like that. Alan Rickman's performance as Hans Gruber is perfection! Combined with Bruce Willis, Bonnie Bedelia, the script, the cinematography and the direction of John McTiernan... this would've been a B-Movie withouth them. This is a classic.

Getting stabbed is an understatement. His head is nearly sliced off and the scowl Johnny is wearing when he stabs Alan like 10 times...Sheesh. But Alan plays "dead" so well that I shudder to think what will happen for his other chacter death with a neck wound. (Trying desperately not to give away spoilers but failing miserably) He does have an amazing singing voice, and so does everyone else in Sweeney Todd. Brilliant film: both ST and Die Hard.

Hans Gruber was a very memorable villain although my favourites are still Clarence Bodicker from Robocop,Archibald Cunningham from Rob Roy and Commodus from Gladiator since they are totally evil and rotten. Hans Gruber at least had some sympathetic sides.
