  • Some people in limerick hate the book. Thety see it as a pack of lies

  • I would really like ten minutes alone with the father in a sound proof room...and ten minutes alone with that green eyed red haired girl described in the book

  • I absolutley love this movie. It cherishes the strong human spirit and helps kids in Ireland to deal. It was tough back then. The grossest thing was there was a lavatory for the whole neighborhood and your family. Don't think it sounds bad? it's the smell of porta potties times 100. But through it all the family has it's good times and bad. in Ireland back then there was a illness called the consumption which i believe is known as turburclious today. times were hard but i'm proud to be Irish4eva

  • @BellaRosa226 It indeed says in the book that the consumption is TBC.

  • Jesus Christ! I accidently saw this film on tv in french when I was a kid and I never knew the tilte or the actors name. I really wanted to see the whole thing but I had no information about it. 2 days ago my english teacher gave us an assignment which was to pick a book on her list and compare it to the film that was made on it and here I am on youtube watching the trailer of a film I've been desperatly trying to find for 8 years now. Thank you for uploading this :)

  • @Poufkimashoula1 That's awesome. Glad you found it :)

  • @Poufkimashoula1 XD im doing the same assignment. its my midterm.

  • You might be poor

  • @farmatyger well-said.

  • @farmatyger Amen

  • i have a copy of the book...now i want to watch the movie

  • Imagine living with mental illness in this era

  • I heard this movie has some VERY inapporopriate things in it..so I decided to not watch it...

  • @computerwiz10 all it is is that there are points in the movie with very limited nudity

  • @clevewalker1 i also have to read this book for summr. if you found any info please tell me

  • @clevewalker1 It has some stuff in there that should only be in an X rated movie...

  • @computerwiz10 o... uhm okay then.....

  • @clevewalker1 Yea..just sayin.

  • Excellent book, excellent movie

  • Doesn't look like the spirit of the book. The music sounds so melodramitical, so mainstream america, whereas the book is so fun and sad at the same time. I don't feel like looking at this movie.

  • @clevewalker1

    More alike than different.

  • @loner1878 Thank you. That's good to know.

  • 'will tell jesus were hungry'

  • This book is my absolute favorite, but this movie seems to almost glorify his father. What is this a "father's dream"? He described his dad as a drunk who would rather spend his money on alcohol and his mom was constantly depressed and struggling to keep them alive. This movie seems to have a hopeful tone, which the book did in the end, but it was over all a sad book. Has anyone seen this and read the book? I feel like if I watch this I will be very disappointed in it!

  • @bniazi2 the father is still a useless drunk in the film but for some reason it doesnt show it in the trailer

  • I liked this film tones, the critics can go suck balls!

  • lol they did not survived like 20 of his bros died

  • @waytobluee 2. and a sister. and a miscarriage.

  • i love the book. and now i cant wait to see the movie. i love it.

  • i adore the books and im about to watch the film :D

  • @brunoGRful

    is Kerry Condon

  • my mam grew up in the lanes of limerick. now we're in america.

  • who the girl at 1:39 ????????

  • @brunoGRful thats the girl Frank met and had the excitement with when working as a delivery boy..she died a few months later of TB

  • @timothymochley

yes I know but what is your real name??? plz

  • @brunoGRful I think shes the girl that Frank had sex with, but she died with the disease later

  • @riceeggsandspam yes. she had consumption.

  • @riceeggsandspam yes. she had consumption.

  • one of my favorites :)

  • that part where he throws Finnucan's ledger into the Shannon River gives me goosebumps every time

  • I'm reading this book for English, I had no idea there was a movie adaptation.

  • @Koolaidmusicjunkie same here

  • haha ''will you tell Jesus were hungry''

    "shut up!''

  • I just watched the movie. Made me cry, and made me want to go back to church.

  • Rest in Peace, Frank McCourt. You are one of the most beautiful storytellers I have ever read. I loved reading Angela's Ashes, it is one of my favorite books. And I am blessed to have seen and read your voice. You and your story will live forever in my heart. My only regret is never getting to meet you in person. I hope death has brought you peace and close to your family.

  • iv loved this movie ever since i was little

  • I loved the book, and finally can watch the film to comprehend on what is in the book... It looks intriguing already :D

  • Loved it! 42 more pages of the book left, then I'll watch the movie. The book is excellent.

  • People!

This movie has one of the best sex scenes ever without showing intercourse XD

  • @interfear1 lols

  • @interfear1 Nah you're thinking of boys dont cry. deliverance is close, scum is good also.

  • @interfear1 really..when

  • @789lop1 Its the part when he is delivering mail and enters the house of a sick girl and she goes all over him O.O

  • lads if your interested in Irish family clan history check out the video on my page about an Irish clan, Im hoping to post up some more videos about other Irish families soon

  • didnt that kid play damien in the omen?

  • @twizy123 No since this film was made in 1999. The kid in the omen is played by Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick. The young Frank is a Joe Breen.

  • the book was amazing. i really want to see the movie.

  • best quotes in the movie are

'mam why's the mans heart on fire?'

    second is

'in the name of the father, the son and the holy toast'

  • i just finished watching the movie, i wonder what happened to his father? i prefer the book than the movie though. and frank is such a hottie in the film when he's 15

  • I read the second book and apparently he lives with his mother then frank goes to visit him and it ends bad.

  • @ameera363 he disappeared in england but according to wiki he died in 1985 (4 years after angela)

  • I think that almost everyone who have read this book, must have liked it partly because of McCourt's magnificent sense of humour - I missed it in the film totally, those who have only seen the film may think it is nice , but the book readers/lovers will find themselves maybe a bit disappointed... at least, I was.

  • @AlekSofja but maybe its because it would be inappropriate to in the film bring in frankie's amazing sense of humour where they are trying to portray what such a hard and tragic childhood of poverty he had. and i think they did a great job of the film. but you're right, frank mccourt's memoirs were amazing to read and mostly because he overcame the hardships with his humour and writing, every page made me smile (:

  • One of my favorite books. Frank McCourt was an amazing writer, RIP <3

  • robert garlyle must be in a movie from roddy doyle:henry smart .PLEASE make it

  • mmmmmm toast

  • He is such a cutie. "In the name of the father, the son and the holy toast:)"

  • @NoorseTrol the tongue ever turns to the aching tooth;)

  • I haven't seen the movie, but by the looks of the trailer, it almost makes it look like his father was actually there trying to take care of his family instead of what he really did which was drink all the money away.

  • @shwat17 The actual movie does a good job portraying the father's alcoholism. You're right though, the trailer dresses it up a lot.

Actually, one of the most striking scenes in the movie is one where Angela and the children have been sitting home, hungry and cold all evening, and then Malachy Sr. comes stumbling in, roaring drunk, carrying on and he trips over the slop bucket. It really is like, "Things could not possibly be any worse."

  • @shwat17 watch it. its really good, yet sad. some scenes are in Cork City..

  • @shwat17 they fuck things up, my friend. they fuck things up.

  • @shwat17

Nah, they show that he was a drunk who wasted their money. But he did somewhat try to work at times.

  • @shwat17 the author intended it like that, although it is actually unclear if frank mcCourt really hated his father, because in the book there are hints of how much the father loved his his kids. ( sucking the snot out of micheal's nose) you must remember that drinking is highly encouraged in Irish culture, most even believed it to be the cure for any pain, and yes malachy was in pain. and his drinking did lead to alcoholicism, which contributed to their poverty.

  • @mslibra923 in the book it says there are times where he hated and loved him or at least different aspects of him. he hated his drinking but loved the mornings with him and the paper

  • @shwat17 also in my opinion frank tries to understand his father inorder to try to love him but is unable to do so because someone has to have the blame.frank takes the black pint on oliver's clean coffin as a symbol to blame malachy and his drinking as the cause of olivers death. you must also remember that during his childhood frank was constantly looking for faith (he didnt find it in the church, or in his father, or any parent0 so he constantly made and took his own advice(hehadtobetheoldest

  • @shwat17 the film does do justice to the book. what has to be remembered is that although malachy is debatably the antagonist of the story, alcoholism is an illness and he did love his family. saying that, it is Amazing how any of them survived at all.

  • @shwat17 In the book you clearly see though that the father had his good/gentle side on him as well...

  • @shwat17 Yeah but that was one of the central conflicts in the book. Frank loved his father dearly. Loved getting up in the mornings all alone and reading the paper with him. He says at one point it's like there's three fathers. The one in the morning, the one who helps him with him homework, and the one who drinks the dole away.

  • READ BOOK AND ENJOYED IT

  • rip frank mccourt

  • I remember watching this for a drama assignment.. brought so many tears through the hardship in the movie :(

  • suchhhh a good movie

  • @sicnarfnosej look for it on a downlowable tourt i think it is there

  • :) Frank McCourt... Angela's Ashes es excelente, el libro es aún mejor.

  • the film is great, not as much as the book tho, the book is just brilliant...

  • @vrc94 I READ AND ENJOY THE BOOK

  • i really like the book....one of the best

  • the book is very good i recommend every one to read it

  • The poor treatment of Catholics in Northern Ireland has often been documented but this film shows that there was bigotry against Northern Protestants in the south as well; the cold treatment of Frank McCourts father for instance even though he was a Republican and IRA supporter.

  • @WORLD8NSH5KNIGHT1 It wasnt comparable mate. Theres orange order marches every year in Donegal and theres never trouble. Catholics and Protestants got on very well in the republic.

  • we had to read this book for english, it was good, i liked it! but i don't know about this movie, haven't seen yet...

  • i bow to the book! super mega touching... greatest biography ever....

  • they kept having children it was ridiculous..

the child scene was funny yet sad.. can't say the same to rest of its adolescent scenes..didn't enjoy as much.

  • I have to watch this !!! Didnt know there was a movie .... silly me ;) x

  • finnaly found it what a great film

  • "In the name of the father the sun and of the holy toast" 0:18

  • up the irish !

  • i want to watch this movie so badly! it looks amazing!

  • i want to see this movie, the book was GREAT!

  • For fuck sake hate this movie, my grandad was Frank Mccourts neighbor, and he said the only reason they were poor was because his mother never stopped smoking!

  • @GeorgiaRyanMusic And his dad drank all the rest of the money.

  • @GeorgiaRyanMusic maybe your grandads a bullshitting cunt then, and this is a great movie

  • @GeorgiaRyanMusic clearly you're ignorant and only know one side of the story. It's ignorant to hate a movie by the opinions of others. You think smoking results to poverty? Poverty resulted to smoking.

  • Best movie ever!!! they should have made a 'Tis.... I wouldda liked to see that =/

  • was this based on true story?

  • @themightyjoseph yep. there's a book too with the same title

  • @themightyjoseph yupp based on the memoir by Frank McCourt. It's excellent, read it!!!

  • what year did they make this movie?

    Date? Please =]

  • @hey4me2livestrong 1999, according to the film's imdb :)

  • I wonder what he thinks about this film.

  • Great book,great writer,brilliant film....some amazing performances here....cool post...everyone should see this film!

  • I love Frank McCourt's books--especially Angela's Ashes--but I just don't feel like watching the movie for some reason. I figure it can't hold a candle to the book--most movie adaptations can't. Opinions, anyone?

  • Good movie and excellent book. One of the best I've read.

  • subtitles please. what a weird accent! couldn´t understand a thing!

  • I have to read this for summer reading, it's good so far

  • @TapCrazer14 same here :/ the book is ok

  • another reason why limerick is so famous.

  • I loved the book though it really does make me wonder about the Irish back then.

  • I'm reading the book right now for school and there are a lot of specific parts in the book that are in the trailer... It's such a sad book though...
