LHS Brakes , an unique and distinct feature of England make motorcycles. The feature which separates them even from great Harleys and Hondas and Ducatis . The hallmarks of the legendary bygone British motorcycle era. Beautiful motorcycle . I wish it had gone the Royal enfield way to be still in production!!
I had both the ex-military B40 and the civvy version then later on I managed to get a B44.The B44 was basically a bigger version of the 250 'starfire' but was a beautiful powerful and reliable bike. The B40s were nice little bikes .Oh ! the memories!
Very nice bike, can anyone please tell what is it? is it a BSA c15? but they are 250cc if i am not wrong. I like single pot bikes and this is a good example.
thats just magic its great too see your grandad on a bike as most people his age these days do the whole moan thing and say theyre too old for it but hes obviously just living life. hes got my instant respect for that.
sorry i didnt see the full stop, how stupid of me, great condition by the way!, i love mine, goes like a rocket, brakes not to bad, looks scruffier than your grandads, but its still in the army dulux brush touch up paint
great fun to ride, if he ever gives you the chance to ride it or have it, snatch his hand off, and take the bike too. have fun
Thanks for comments. Not sure about the reason for the registration plate. I will ask him and post an update. He and his friend restored it, I went to his friends house and he had over a dozen bikes in various stages of resto.
completly wrong, its a very early de-commisioned wd-b40, the only road rocket bsa made in a single was a 441cc (b44) 1969 onwards. it is the suped up early b40 engine fitted into an early design of the starfire frame, 20inch front wheel for the army lads, trials box with normal 4th gear.
im supprised its on a E plate which is for 1967 (which is correct to the year of build) how ever the bikes were not registed with the dvla until they were de-commisioned. mine is on a 1982 plate with the origional 1967 brass plaque, question is, why was it de-comisioned so early???, other question is why is he hammering the kick starter, mine has a racing pistion (higher compression), and i can start it without any effort or decompression valve
@allcylinders They issue an age related plate for the year of manufacture. That is a B40 GB that was built in 1967. So that's why it's on an E plate. They don't issue age related plates based on the year of decommission. You should be able to get yours transferred onto an E or F plate if it was built in 1967.

Nice :0) I have an ex-wd B40 as well, which funnily enough is only 10 away from that registration. I wonder when/how they were road-registered?

No-one said the bike is a road rocket, the previous poster is called 'roadrocket'. The reference was to him not the bike!
