  • Brutal.

  • omg that shit is fast

  • @iCommenter66 I think it's the fasted known biological movement.

  • Hey, any idea where was this taken from? This is really cool!

  • nematocyst...the bane of my existence. I'm stung on a weekly basis by bloody jellyfish when I'm surfing.

Maybe I should cover myself in mucus...

  • Chuck Norris' wife douches with these.

  • that is soooo cool

  • once they shoot off are they done for? kinda like a bee sting?

  • @Bdawg71692 Yes.

  • Can Jellyfish sting another Jellyfish?

    X

  • @Xaltus Yes.

  • 0:21 :S ouch :-(

  • IMMA FIRIN MAH NEMATOCYSTS BLAAAHH

  • Nature's own firearms. Imagine if they had BIG nematocysts? That would suck

  • *Sobs quietly* Owie!

  • wow!

  • does anyone know the name of the barbs that are shot out? It is one of my questions for my environment class.

    thanks

  • @MrZKoll the barbs shot out are nematocysts. They're pretty much like needle-containers. The cell containing the nematocyst is like a missile silo and the nematocyst is the missile. It's connected by a cable that retracts after firing. When the cell fires, it uses calcium ions to absorb water and create a lot of pressure. As the pressure builds, the hatch opens, and the nematocyst shoots out, and the cable it's hooked to uncoils.

  • Omg I could almost feel it!! :O

  • amazing, when i saw the first volley i went "oh holy shit!"

  • holy shit !

  • Those nematocysts fire their stingers with a force of five million G's. I kid you not.

  • Fastest reaction in the animal kingdom apparently.

(Same firing mechanism for Chironex Fleckeri - box jelly fish)

  • You've gotta be kidding me!!

  • ow!

  • Nematocysts are the fastest reacting and executing organic/bodily systems in the world. Imagine getting stung by an Irukandji or other Cuboza family jellies....

  • this is so cool! we did this in our biology-fieldcourse just a few days ago. We cut of a bit of a Mertridium senile (don't know the name in English) and added vinegar.. it was like fireworks :D

  • that was so awesome. I just learned about Phylum Cnidarian in my bio class earlier today

  • oops, i mean cnidaria

  • Do NOT mess with Cnidaria!

  • i heard that those things firing is the worlds fastest metabolic reaction, next to a prayin mantis attack.

  • wolverine jellyfish

  • Nematocysts- the only weapon on planet Earth that's nastier than a prison shiv.

That's the first time I've seen these things fire close up, and I'm counting my blessings that I haven't ended up wearing a set of those from all the times I've been swimming.

  • OMG I GET SICK EVERY TIME I WATCH THIS its so scary

i wonder what kind of jellyfish it is

  • jesus, those went into me today.

  • excellent video

  • Boy are those things fast.

  • is there a way to copy this video? it would

be perfect for my bilogy project. could i use

    it?

  • definitely cool! =P

  • not just cool ... They're DEAD cool XD

  • This is a really great video, it shows actual nematocysts firing without the wanky special effects and sci-fi noises a lot of CG animations of this have.

  • Nature, efficient and precise.

  • wow

  • cool!
