  • Robbie DID sing " Out of the Blue " whilst in The Band. Loved the band, love his solo output as well. He's lookin' big these days ?

  • Wowee, a video of a video

  • Robertson saw that the road was going to kill someone, which it did, Manuel and Danko.

  • It didn't necessarily kill Danko, because they weren't touring when he died. The only reason they continued touring after Manuel died was because they had to fill up their remaining tour dates.

  • just by guitar and writing all the great songs he did.Well he wasnt the best member of the band in fact in my opinion theres a 3 way tie for #1. which is Richard,Levon and Rick

  • Garth was invaluable to The Band. It took all five members individually to make up an ensemble that delectable! I wish this blame game between Band fans would just go away. There's nothing anyone can do about it now. Why Hate anyone for something none of us even know the real unbiased facts to? Stop it and enjoy what we have left!

  • no Garth = no Band

  • Robbie Robertson is a great guitar player and exceptional songwriter. But...the overall quality of his songs is not what it was with the Band. That would seem to tell me that the other members of the Band DID have alot of input for the overall construction of many songs...songs they were never monetarily compensated for. That was wrong...but Robbie's ear was being bent by Albert Grossman who had become the Band's manager. They were 'pencil-whipped' for sure.

  • DUM DUM Robertson is Mohawk part of The Six Nations. That 'cherokee jew' comment overflowed w/racist intent so u r not kidding anyone After The Band RR went on to record & play w/some of the finest His voice on Redboy ect is enjoyed by many His spoken word is a universal sound Why dont u write a book re: candid comments u have collected over the years & see a therapist while u r at it

  • Hey guys can we tone it down a bit? I am getting negative feedback and at least one email complaint about these last comments.

  • enewc,

unlike miller & dave,i never used profanity in my posting.

  • denden more like DUMDUM Were u there in 60s when The Hawk hired RR 2 play lead 4 years Nobody could ever bully any of those guys Luv of the craft was the glue back then but u wouldnt know about that Did Manuel & Danko tell u w/their last breath it was RR who caused their demise u shame them w/your ignorant racist comments u think RR is waiting for your forgivness I thought I just saw him onstage w/Clapton banging out tunes that he wrote gifting us w his genius on the strat. U R shit for brains

  • miller,

as a matter of fact i DID speak w/ rick danko b4 he died (after a show in pawling ny). he did candidly tell me that he felt richard hung himself b/c he was dispondent that R R broke up The Band. he also expressed animosity over the fact that robbie 'snookered' them out of their share of the royalties for all the songs they (they other 4 members)wrote/collaborated on. i also spoke w/ levon after a show in albany ny. he never forgave RR for breaking up The Band.

  • you got blame someone

  • denden8148,

You are late for your KKK meeting. You racist piece of shit!

  • dave, why don't u read barney hoskyns book. (across the great divide)the cherokee jew comment is attributed to RR himself. i meant no racist intent/ just facts

  • It should also be noted he (Robbie) sort of bullied his way into Ronnie & the Hawks, just wouldn't quit showing up to the gigs @ SW Ont. But an amazing songwriter. Still respect after he low balled the rest of the band for their rights and buying the catalog...which I think Richard Manuel paid the highest price, his life.

  • ouch..

  • he may not the greatest singer, but he can play a Strat with the best of them.

  • robbie doesnt sing. i actually like his voice on certain things. examples being Bessie Smith, To Kingdom Come, Knockin Lost John and 87` stuff like Somewhere Down The Crazy River

  • FYI

Robbie Robertson did not sing with The Band. The lead singers were Levon Helm, Rick Danko and Richard Manuel. Robbie was the lead songwriter and lead guitar player. He was not a singer (as this video demonstrates).

  • I also heard something how during performances when you do see Robbie singing into a mic (akin to the Waltz's "Helpless") they always had his mic off.

  • Yes. I heard similar story. They had to scrap some live recordings because his mic had inadvertently been turned on. But I can relate. If you are in a band, you want a mic to sing into. They would have to turn mine off also.

  • for the record Ronnie Hawkins sang the song on the last walts and Robie is singing back up on this concert

  • he didn't sing lead on the last waltz, remember. but he's got a unique voice. this isn't the type of song where his voice shines though, true.

  • Dont forget that alot of years have passed since "the last waltz" ......

  • He did a great job on the guitar tho, overall solid two songs from him.
