@askland , EWQL Play edition is known for it's many issues. I have problems too although after much frustration I got the damn thing to work.

Have you checked if the EWQLSOGoldVST.dl file is in the folder C:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\VSTPlugins

why is it soo complicated. I have a mac and all i do is install sound sample program and then go to playback devices and it has all the samples. what is the difference. is this better?

This works in the notation program Sibelius. SO works as a VST instrument in just about all DAW software.

You've got to understand that the proprietary companies have not made their own sound sets, and this is a completely end-user project. Jon Loving, beta testers, users of the soundset, and myself. It's a completely end-user project and it isn't official, it was done out of the grace of many people that thought it'd be nice to give away.

Until the companies decide to do it themselves, this will have to suffice,

Yes it is pathetic how complex the Installation is made to be.

If you have Firefox, could try a free plug-in called Download Helper. Little box sits in your toolbar, you click to access a dropdown that will list the media playing in your browser and you can simply download the video :)

Might want to install VLC Player (also free and very good) for playback though as the video format is usually FLV or MP4...

This is a very nice sound set, from examples I've heard.

However, I'm having trouble upgrading from Sibelius 5 to Sibelius 5.25. I tried the website, but it says I need a "upgrade code."

Contact Sibelius. They have had trouble from a lot of users and they will send you an update CD (assuming you have a legitimate copy).

Well the tutorial is great but unfortunately I couldn't get the sound sets to show in Sibelius 5.

Everything else worked but when it came to selecting the sound set, all I could select is general midi, general midi 2 and Yamaha XG. Even when Kontact 2 was activated in Sibelius it didn't show anything to do with EWQLSL Gold sound set.

Oh well..I'll just have to do with out it for now. Thank you for trying with these sound sets though

It could be a number of things. You've got to have the XML and LIB files in the appropriate directory, but you've also got to make sure that you've done the registry correctly. I assume that the files are in the appropriate directory, so please take a look over the registry setup once more. Take note that the 32bit and 64bit directories are different.

got it. Sibelius needs to be up to date. I think 5.2.5 is the latest.

Will this method work with Sibelius 3 and EWQLSO Silver? If so this will make my life so much easier.

I believe that Sibelius 5 is a necessary requirement. The sound sets weren't tested on older versions, so I'm not sure if it's compatible with version 3. But it definitely works with the Silver edition of SO, as long as you have at least Sibelius 5.

Sibelius 3 seems to have all the right thing for it to work. I just don't get how your EWQLSO files are .lib and i have no .xml files either. I purchased EWQLSO silver and pro xp and all i have is .dll, .nki, and .nks files. I'm using windows XP. Perhaps this is the problem?

I can't get it to work, I get that error message at the end. Do I have to use Kontakt 3? Is it possible to use the EWQL program?

You can also use Kontakt 2. If you're using Kontakt 3, the problem is most likely that you're using Kontakt version 3.02 which I believe is the latest version. Roll back to the earlier version of which you can find a link to at the bottom of the manual and you'll be up and running.
