On that 1st row, I would have bet just $700 that the next card was higher that the four because there were only 2 cards in the deck that would hurt me and I wouldn't want to lose all my money and go broke but like they say, to each his/her own.
Norma's win was much more impressive though because during her time on Card Sharks (1978) she had no safety net of a "push" (two of the same cards), if it's the same card you lose. Aces and deuces were no guarantees for Norma's run. It was basically all or nothing over and over. For Faith's case she knew she couldn't lose with an A and 2. Also, Faith had a $400 start on the 2nd level comparing to Norma's $200, so that allowed Faith to exceed Norma's total.
@DannyBkyn No one said it was. However...if you think that Jeopardy requires intelligence, then you have none. It is a quiz show that asks questions about mostly useless trivia. Besides..you you need to use a GAME SHOW to make you feel superior to others, then you can be assured that you are not superior to anyone.
Yeah, $29K was like a lot of money back then. Well, shit, I guess it is still a lot of money. I'd take 29K for flipping a few cards. But after taxes she only got to keep about 19K.
@Matty1103 To answer your question...factoring in the exchanged card at the start of the second row, the odds of that exact board coming up, as you asked, are approximately 1 in 565,873,413.6.
Now keep in mind, that is the odds of those exact same numbers coming up. (You didn't ask about the 10, so I didn't facotr that in.) However, she didn't need to overcome those odds just to win as she did. Just to win like that with those cards, the odds were 1 in 29.62365717.
Holy shit!!

While Faith won more money than Norma, Norma is remembered because she bet everything on EVERY turn.

$29,000 in 1986 is almost $58,000 in 2010.

Actually, she beat Norma's record. Norma won "$29,000. This woman won $29,200.

@knickknack07 Yes, you're right. I have no intelligence whatsoever. Why in the world are you offended by a joke about Card Sharks? strange

back in that time 29 grand was a lot of money. heck, 25 cents would go a long way in those days.

@r3ality357 wait, this is 1986 not 1976...nevermind.

It is known that a deck of cards must be shuffled and riffled 7 times for it to be random.
carchavtube 2 years ago 3
@carchavtube That is IF the deck is ordered in the beginning. A deck that is semi-random to begin with does not take 7 shuffles

I gues you're right. I learned this watching the WPT.

The way this way going, she could have won the whole $32,000.

There was a risk of another Ace there. In addition, with the queen, the risk of 2 higher cards were there too.

I love the part from 2:54 to 3:04 where Bob mocks his spiel about winning a lot of money in the Money Cards. You usually don't see the host do that.
