  • Its Gump! its Gump! its Gump!..I mean Big O !

  • It's like batman with big robots! XD

  • I want a butler like Roger's >:D

  • the team reminds me of batman somehow

  • This song is freakin' AWESOME! Yeah whoever said this doesn't fit? Uh ya blew it! Super rad!

  • @Spicypeanut It's not like the original theme is any less strange. More strange, really.

  • Was this the same group that did the original opening as well?

  • @thejackal007 Yeah, Bandai Entertainment America had to commission a new opening from them, believe it or not: after a few years of printing the DVDs, the lawyers of Freddie Mercury's estate got a little antsy about how similar the original opening was to Queen's Flash Gordon theme song, so they had the performer, Rui Nagai, make a new one. This one's been used on all printings of the US DVDs for Season 1 for the last few years.

  • @Sprocketman That explains why I've not seen this before. I got my DVD's right after they came out. This song is pretty neat though! I can see why Freddie's estate would be a bit concerned... I mean, it sounds very similar indeed. THanks for the info!

  • @Sprocketman True, this song wouldn't work at all with the original opening. The sirens really did have a place in that opening. The key is a little happier as well (and let's face it, this didn't have the world's most 100% happy storyline either). Don't let the Kinks' see this one!

  • Oh lordy, this is the first time I've seen this. This song is horrible. Seriously. And the tone doesn't fit with Big O at all.

  • when i was super young, i use to be attracted to dorothy. that's why i would watch this. 8 years pass since i first see the show, man, this was an amazing anime, all around.

  • @VENOMGODLY i was attracted to her to XD!!!!

  • ANIMAX <3

  • Wow I.... actually really liked that.

  • IIIIII DON'T CARE

    IIIIII DON'T CARE

  • It's like Batman... without Batman.

    >.>

  • If they got Kevin Conroy to dub this I would;ve been sold.

  • @MrLunitunz

what ain't steve blum good enough?

  • @prowlus Have you heard Kevin Conroy? He puts all the actors on the casual dub circuit to shame. Just watch Batman: The Animated Series or Batman Beyond or Justice League sometime and you'll see exactly what I mean.

  • @MrLunitunz I don't think he would have fit the role. His voice seems a bit too deep for Roger. Batman is supposed to have a gravelly voice, but Roger is supposed to be less dark and more debonaire.

  • @MrProminance1 Kevin Conroy has a Bruce Wayne voice. He's got a good range.

  • @BladeLigerV Generally speaking I think "diesel punk" would be more accurate, because apart from the Megadeus' (whose style is sort of right on the border, plus Big O has those hydraulic fists), everything else is from 1930's-60's in terms of visual aesthetics.

Also, anyone else think the guys who do the opening themes for Big O must have been in a Queen tribute band at some point?

  • @H3Knuckles "Diesel Punk" <- This needs to be a thing.

Oh wait, Google says it already is. Yes.

  • That's new, where can I download this song? XD X3

  • big o. big o, big O, BIG O!

  • "BIG O SHOWTIME!!!!!!! literally the shows about to start where the hell are you?"

  • Roger Smith is definitely better than Bruce Wayne. Why?

-Does Batman have a giant ass robot? Nope.

-Does Batman have a smoking hot android chick for a sidekick? Nope.

-Does Batman need have a machine gun wielding eye patch wearing butler? Nope.

I think this list speaks for itself.

  • @loneotaku Okay:

Batman DOES have a giant ass robot, or he's been known to

Batman has smoking hot REAL women

Batman has the shotgun wielding textbook definition of a battle butler.

    Plus he's fucking Batman.

  • @MrLunitunz Okay man, you have a good point. While I agree with all your statements, there's one in particular I don't remember: When did Batman have a giant robot?

  • @loneotaku Several times. He's had suits of powered armor in Dark Knight Returns and Batman vs Predator, and probably a few other times. He piloted a giant Batman/Superman composite mech in Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and in The Batman he builds himself a Bat-mech to beat Bane with.

  • Confirmed for Rock Band

  • Wait is this in America yet?

  • @SideShowShayne1 Been in America for years. In fact they still rerun Season 2 late Sat/Early Sun at 3 AM. Right after Cowboy Bebop.

  • @colleen4ever In point of fact, season 2 only got made because the first season did so well in the North American market that Cartoon Network offered to help fund it. The first season's original run in Japan did not go over well.

  • @H3Knuckles Is that a fact? Just goes to show how much we appreciate this work of art here in the USA! (what can you say when such a fantastic show like this goes unoticed and an endless one like Bleach just continues...and continues..and continues...

  • ....the japanese tony stark....

  • @W3bstarr I thought every japanese person had at least three mechanical giant robots in their garage?

  • @atnasomfg apparently big-o is enough?

  • @W3bstarr yeah, an ingenius inventor who uses the electro magnet in his chest to power a flying suit of armor to stop his technology from being used for evil.Wait, that doesn't sound like Roger. He does more solving crime with gadgets just like Batman, badass jet black car just like Batman, youthful-looking sidekick just like Batman, awesome butler just like Batman, and does detective work just like Batman, and wears black like...I just noticed something! He's more like Batman than Ironman!whoa!

  • @MrProminance1 ....you win...?

  • @W3bstarr No, Batman....

  • @W3bstarr Nah, he's more like Bruce Wayne.

  • @ndalum75 He even has his own butler

  • i prefer the theme where they remind us on what show we're watching

  • Much better and less annoying than the original opening

  • damn this is badass not gonna lie this is probably the only mecha anime i truly like unlike gundam with the robots being its only redeeming quality :P

  • Big-O sorta has a steam-punk feel to it

    Anybody els think so?

  • @BladeLigerV

Nah, it was noir. Big-O (the robot) was pretty steam punk though.

  • @BladeLigerV Really? I heard it described as more of a mecha-noire.

  • @BladeLigerV More like Dieselpunk.

  • @BladeLigerV In a steampunk steam power is typically used. I really don't see any here. But I do agree it feels like alternative history.

  • @languagemaster5 @BladeLigerV I wouldn't call it steampunk. Big O would fall more under dieselpunk.

  • @BladeLigerV meh. more diesel-punk.

  • @BladeLigerV The aesthetic of the show certainly has a steam-punk feel but the plot itself is decidedly more cyber-punk in nature.

  • Big-big-big O

  • This what happens when Bruce Wayne builds himself a giant mech instead of wearing a bat costume.

  • "You're a louse, Bruce Wayne"?

  • this show is like bat man and gundam but together...

  • whats this song called!?!?!!?!?

  • @jameel969 ”BIG-O! Show Must Go On”

This title was connected to the theme at season 2.

The composition and the performance are Rui Nagai.

It was broadcast by channel ANIMAX only for the animated cartoon of Japan.

    - I'm sorry in strange English.

  • This opening is cool as hell!!! It's like a Kinks song with a Ritchie Blackmore guitar harmony. I think the original opening mimics a phase of Queen that I'm not all that fond of----the cheesy early 80s era. It's got camp value with the Ultraman-style presentation but ignore the camp and it's just mediocre CRAP. This opening kicks way more ass on a GENUINE LEVEL and it's particular flavor of RETRO is closer to the period-stylings of the show----the mid to late 60's. Thumbs all the way up!

  • Dude wasn't this the one broadcast on Adult Swim?

I distinctly remember seeing this every sunday or am I mistaken?

  • but is a fan made opening?

  • @Allosaurus87

Nope, this is an official opening.

  • im watching big o for the first time in like 3 years i miss it such a good show!!

  • Boo. I prefer the original. That one had the grooviest bassline a tv show theme song ever had.

  • ...Not Flashy enough.

  • The only lyrics I can make out of this song is "Big Big Big ,Big O." D:

The song makes me think of the band Queen.

  • terrible opening. and why does everyone assume there should be a third season? the final end is the most conclusive ending i've ever seen, i'm sorry if people don't understand it, but try.

  • @XIIXCECXIIX

Because there was a third season planned.

  • The thing that annoyed the hell out of me is that roger refused to carry a weapon and wonders why does everyone take advantage of him?

  • @AMP2K1 in one of the episode Norman uses a machine gun on Eugnes Helecopter(forgot how to spell his name)

  • The first opening for this show was better.

  • I guess they got tired of ripping off the Flash Gordon theme :D

  • Wiat, 2007? I thought that last season was released in 2002...

  • @Omnibara Yeah.

In America. Big O flopped REALLY hard in japan, how big it was in America got Adult Swim to commision a season 2. It's a wonder the Second season came at all there in Japan. Either way, better late than never. I just wish Adult Swim would fund a Season 3 to finish off the series or something.

  • Needs moar Flash

  • blu-ray release for christmas pretty please?

  • I prefer the original opening over this one, this one sounds a little too hip for my tastes :P

  • Roger Smith NEVER uses guns but his butler Norman is. That was something I never got my head around.

  • @Xephon0930 its just doesn't fit with his style, its not some ethical question with him

  • crotch rockets go!!!!!!!

  • This song reminds me of Livin Loving Maid by Led Zepplin

  • I wish my DVDs had this intro on it. It's pretty good.

  • Batman: I'm bahtmaannn... Roger: No I won't trade big o for your batmobile.

  • original is better....

  • Big O! Action!

  • Batman+Super Robot=Big O

  • God I wish that there would be a third season. But that will never happen.

  • @Kronos2011 Ya never know. It might happen sometime in the future, if alot of people want it. Its a really great anime imo.

  • @DarkGanon3000 I hope you are right, this anime was orginal wich is something that few animes nowadays have.

  • @Kronos2011 Agreed.

  • i whould like norman to be my butler/body guard/ ass kicking machine

  • I like the old opening better.

  • The new opening sucks.

  • Plus Roger has the bitches too! Angel! Dorothy! Come on who cares if she's an android! Still women! Batman has a little boy and in some of the series a Bat Girl, who's like 17? Caough pedo cough pedo.

  • What the hell is that noise? It's like the Japanese Jonas Brothers covering the Beatles live in Hawaii!

  • Nice new theme, I guess they ran the "BIG O" lyric budget down with the first theme. Now if Japan would hurry the fuck up and build these robots we can get this ball rolling

  • how come the picture looks like marvel animation such as Batman????

  • Batman isn't Marvel

  • meh

  • perfectly shows just how badass the big o is.

  • This intro (robot) is wonderful

  • dude Big O!

  • I hope they get the original voice cast if they make an English version.

  • I like the new theme song it, kind of makes me think of the Kinks.

  • Comment removed

  • This is seriously epic

  • This opening is stylish and cool, but i haven't seen this animation yet. :P

  • I have seen several versions of season 2 opening. Do they differ depending on US or Japanese version? Or is it something else?

  • yeah, the re-released box set used the season 1 and 2 visuall intros, but dubbed this song (a little moe sped up) over it

  • aw...i miss the Flash Gordon theme...i mean the old one...

  • Goddammit, why didn't I watch this when I was younger!?

  • @Alishmail I know, at least we had Thundercats, Silverhawks and Sesame Street.

  • @Alishmail dude same here dammm

  • when was the last episode?

  • the old theme song is better

  • For anyone that's seen Wolf's Rain, does it sound to u like Roger (english) has the same voice as Darcia?

  • Yeah, both characters are voiced (in English) by Steven Blum.

Personally this drives me crazy about dubs: at least with a lot of the stuff I watch, the same people turn up over and over. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting Steven Blum, Wendee Lee, or Scott McNeil...

Of course it's not as though the same doesn't happen in the Japanese versions - for instance, Dorothy's (Japanese) voice actress also played Relena from Gundam W. And how many times has Koyasu Takehito turned up in Gundam..?

  • lolz no idea, I never heard him more than these two. But other things...like Android 17 from DBZ and Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho.

  • hes steven blum he also does the english voice acting for spike from cowboy bebop

  • @RunFasterPussycat And the CoH game and Halo I think.

Cowboy bebop cemented his voice as badasstodeath! and he gets all the jobs.

  • you can get the entire list of voice actors appearance on animenewsnetwork

    and more.

  • Norman is, like, the most awesome butler EVER!!!!

I mean, seriously, how many old dudes who are butlers can do the stuff that he does??

  • yeah I agree this show kind of always had a batman on steroids feeling to me, norman owns alfred and roger has a giant fucking robot, screw batarangs lol

  • @thefatman69dude

    Totally.

  • Comment removed

  • @xviolentphilx u think im being ridiculous, who just wrote a fucking paragraph defending the guy who has a boy sidekick (gay). theres a reason why they are called the gay duo.

  • @thefatman69dude Alfred was snarky. Even if it was a fucking big robot, he's still the goddamn batman.

(And I'm a fan of both series).

  • @thefatman69dude Then the girl with scars on her back, Angel I think was her name, she's Catwoman!

  • @LoveStoriesInc

yeah Alfred pales in comparison compared to himm...

  • Comment removed

  • @LoveStoriesInc only one. The butler from Hellsing(can't remember his name).

  • @LoveStoriesInc Alfred Pennyworth before Batman Begins Era.

  • @LoveStoriesInc He is cool but dont forget the butler from hellsing!

  • @LoveStoriesInc

I can really only name two.

Alfred of Batman fame, who, let's face it, is the basis for Norman.

    And Walter from Hellsing.

  • @LoveStoriesInc this guy can cooks, repair android and giant mecha, handling firearms, god I think he can do everything xD

  • @diazhungi I was wondering why people were still replying to my comment....Then I suddenly became un-lazy.

  • @LoveStoriesInc well if you take in the sterotype the british ones

  • @LoveStoriesInc Walter C. Dornez, though admittedly he was something very different before becoming a butler.

  • @LoveStoriesInc your mom

  • @wafflesan1 nah, my mom isn't as awesome as norman :p

  • Cool I like this version.

  • Why does this opening remind me of a very old school batman show?

  • The answer is obvious. . .they're both awesome.

  • Good observation lol. The creator was influenced a lot by Batman while making the show. There's a lot of similarities between the two shows if you look closely.

  • Bruce Timm and Warner Bros version of Batman and Justice League no doubt influced this anime.

  • Imagine if Timm wrote a 3rd series....oh god....thats awesomeness that I don't think this universe could ever contain....

  • made by the same guys bro, of course they influenced it. LOL at the dumbasses giving you thumbs down.

  • I like the first season better too but my main problem with the 2nd season footage was that they used stock footage from the first season so it looked bad whenever it was shown because you could really see the difference.

  • I think the first season was by far the best of the two. They definately lost most of the noir feel to it in the second season. am i the only one who like the hand drawn cell animation in the first season compared to the OVA quality in the second?

  • Agreed on both counts. I've never been big on digital ink, but Big O's old-time setting just looked "better" in cel. To me, anyway.

  • I liked the suspense and mystery of the first season.

  • Roger is so damn cool & suave!! So are Norman & Dorothy! Big O itself is awesome too!

  • Man, I liked the other opening better. =/

  • Yeah, this one makes Roger's struggle to find his memory sound like crap. As if it doesn't matter and kicking ass is all he should think about...although, if Big O was mine, I'd be stomping city blocks for fun lolz.

  • Awesome, but missing the retro awesome that made the other opening so damn cool.

    Meh.

  • old intro > new intro

  • When I first heard this theme, I didn't care for it much. But I've really warmed up to it!

Anyone know the translation of the lyrics?

  • Translation? Don't you see? It's all in English! BIG, BIG, BIG-O BIG, BIG, BIG-O OOH, CAST IN THE NAME OF GOD I DON'T CARE, I DON'T CARE JUST START; IT'S SHOWTIME! FOR THE FUTURE DESTINY SHOW MUST GO ON, I MUST GO ON FORGET MY LIFE, I'VE GOT MY MIND THE PART GOES ON, THE GAME GOES ON BIG, BIG, BIG-O!
  • Holy crap you're right! Just like the original!

    Thanks man!

  • norman KICKS ASS! GO NORMAN!!!

  • this is wat they used for the dvds.

  • >_> 70's batman

  • The old opening shits all over this one.

  • this intro is a serious downgrade from the other one!

  • anyone know where a man can download a full version of this song?

  • I like Big O and Roger because they were *sorta* like Batman but there are a few differences. Kevin Conroy does a good Batman because he can capture that gritty spirit well. The "charming" and laid-back Bruce Wayne is sorta an unneeded by-product.

Even when Roger is in battle, he's rarely as gravelly-throated as Batman is, nor does he need to be.

  • the butler is KICK! ASS!

  • Roger = Bruce Wayne

  • kevin conroy is good but I like steve blum as rodger
