  • Great Video!

  • Ive hear being the guard on one of them is very easy just press a button to open the doors easyer than the steam where the guard has to get out and couple up.

  • basically a bus on a wagon chassis

  • Can't beat the old Leyland iron.

  • I know, Leylands rule.

  • @TrainBusJaguar The 141s were released in 1984

  • Loving that engine note, pacers rule, 5 stars.

  • Thanks. Amen to that!

  • Are those Leylands the same ones as in the 101s? Cheers.

  • No. When new, all classes 141s, 142s, 143s and 144s were fitted with Leyland TL11 engines and SCG gearboxes. 141113 was experimentaly fitted with Cummins LTA10R engines and Voith transmission. All the later Pacer classes were so modified leaving only the other 141s unmodified.

  • Oh, thanks for that info.

  • @HORNEBEEDUBLO Only 141's ans 142's were new with TL11 engines. Class 143/4's were new with Cummins.

  • @paxmanvalentaboy I have old fleet books from the late 1980s. 143s and 144s had Leyland TL11s and SCG gearboxes from new. I travelled on the 144s when they were new. The 10 centre cars were built in 1987 and 5 2 car 144s received Voith gearboxes at Derby works, the SCG gearboxes from these were used in the centre cars. All 142 - 144s had Voith gearboxes by April 1991. Cummins engines started to appear in spring 1993 on overhaul at BRML Doncaster. 143s were 1st recipients.

  • @HORNEBEEDUBLO ahh right

  • last time i was on a pacer thats how it kinda looked inside thats how long i since i been on one:P good vid mate!

  • Haha it's been about 4 years since I last traveled on a Pacer until yesterday. The 142s interiors looked similar until refurbishment in 2002-3. Thanks for commenting!

  • You see, I live in the south east in essex, and all we never had any pacers in essexs, we now have electrostars, desiros, sprinters, dusty bins and other commuter trains in essex.

  • What are dusty bins, please?

  • 'Dusty bins' were the nicknames for the classes 320, 321 and 322 EMUS.

  • Ah, right, didn't know that. Thanks!

  • its been around 20 years for me damn am gettin old lol
