These episodes are from an era I missed (I saw the '70s episodes when I was a kid, and I've been watching the post 2000 episodes with my own kids), but the "in-between" decades of the '80s and '90s I missed. Never saw Maria and Luis's "courtship". I find it amusing and precocious that there were actually episodes about marriage (and when couples are ready to marry and when they're NOT)--these are rather mature issues for the S.S. audience--nice to see that the producers tackled such things
I thik they did that as an example to kids about what a good strong relationship looks like- the original target audience were lower socio-economic kids, who often came from struggling family situations.
Yeah. Big Bird is just a kid (sort of) so he's got an excuse, but Bob was just totally out of control. What was wrong with him. You'd expect him to know better.
Anyone remember the episode where louis fell and broke his arm and then he was singing songs about it? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I remember my parents taking me to see Maria and Louis at the Sears when I was a kid. I was so excited to meet them.

I remember this Maria and Louis totally love one another. When I was a kid I wished Maria and Louis where my mum and dad LOL. But they aren't lol.
Babe5677 4 years ago 3
I think many of us sometimes wished that.

As a little latina, I wanted to trade in my mom & dad and replace them with Luis & Maria when I was a kid. lol

See, this stuff is quite vintage to me, as I was born in 1987. Apparently I missed all the good classic plots.

You would have seen some in the early 90s

This was cool. But I wish to see the episdoe when Maria and Luis get married. I heard it's touching.
Digilady99 5 years ago
I still haven't forgiven Maria for dumping David for Luis! He was never the same after that! :)

Actually, that's when Sesame Street "jumped the shark", I think.
mftheory 4 years ago
actually, it sounds like the two cats try to play some notes of the closing theme on the piano as they are being heard
gutchman84 5 years ago
that's kinda funny at the end when the two muppets play the piano while the ending theme plays.

those cats are so cute! i never saw this one, i guess when this came out in 1988 i was getting too old for Sesame Street then. ;D

BTW, does anyone think that "Love in the Fix-it-Shop" sounds a lot like "The Air That I Breathe" by The Hollies?
glickmam 5 years ago
Maybe Bob should have had Ray Charles do the piano accompaniment.

I didn't know Chip and Dip could talk!
I've only ever seen them going "MEOW-meow-meow-MEOW!" "Meow-meow-MEOW-meow-meow!"
Either way, good thing they weren't the ones singing!

That's really cool. I'd like to see the ep where they really do get married.

Well, I expect that sort of innocent meddling from Big Bird, but Bob was just as bad!
How neat to see Bob's place, with his archaic dial phone in the background.
