@jonoferguson22 dont think he jump more flung for the aircraft and the blades hit him you can see it stop in mid air with a white object flying off would hate to think it was his head
This UH-1H was flying NOE and cliped a tree causing the rotor to fail. The video shows the helicopter after it had already landed hard causing the skids to come loose. The video is from the vietnam era.
Wow, the Soldier observing the crash in the foreground is really composed, cool calm and collected and just watches the whole episode without flinching despite flying rotor blades and debris and only pauses to shoulder his rifle!!
looks like a tail rotor or tail rotor drive failure.I din't know why the skids are dismounted though.Probably this is not itd first hard landing after the failure occured
the tail rotor counteracts the torque of the main rotor. if the tail rotor fails for any reason the helo will spin on the forces of the main rotor, and the only way to stop that is to get the whole damn thing on the ground.
I doubt he jumped out. It's pretty common for military helicopters to have the pilot's doors fly open. Who knows though, but I don't see how jumping out would be a logical decision based on the fact that this type of crash is typically survivable.
what would you do if a helicopter was failing in front of you, run in and grab a rotor to foil the ensuing disaster? Do a dance of good luck and rub sheep urine on the soles of your feet to induce good will and happiness? come on, any one would react unpredictably, its what we all have in common.
One little typo, I was in short sleeves in a cold room and my hands were also cold, forgive me for that little error at least. The grammar is correct if you read the whole thing. So don't try to lecture me either.
I asked why they should not have these choppers. Your answer does not hold water. Just because they dont maintain the aircraft to your wonderful high standards shouldnt preclude them from owning them. Again your comments are racist.
I said that you are nothing TO ME. You know nothing about me nor I about you. Your inane comment is not welcome and you were certainly nothing to do with the origional rant that some yank had about not allowing third world countries to have helicopters made by other countires; But out.
I can only imagine what five minutes in the american armed forces is like. I can only imagine that you are still young compared to myself. Belive me, you would piss your pants if you only knew what some of the things I have done, with people from all over the world. Your command and understanding of the English language is limited at best. You didn't answer the question on what is wrong with third world countries owning some equipment made by other countries???? Stop being an idiot.
tailrotor w' greaseless hub, moved to r. side of tail, push/pull tube in lieu of quadrant & chains for control, as were all of the US Army AH-1 Cobras when upgraded from G to all but the production F models which already had them as did the Agustas & later civil production 205's.
Well you are not exactly wrong. What happens sometimes when you are trying to land, is that the tail rotor hits the groud, making the tail rotor transmission to break in parts but with still blades in place. You can see that the pilot did immediatly the only available manoeuver, so what cutting the engine couple ans stibilizing the pitch (trying to rotate in a flat line for the main rotor avoiding them touching the groud). So why it crashes smoothly and safely...
Any competent helicopter crew, no matter the country, knows the safest place is inside the helicopter when something catastrophic happens. The pilot(s) were possibly thrown out because they were not strapped in. Both doors were already open in this case. Even spinning around so violently the doors would not come open on their own & the pilots wouldn't have the time to open them to jump out even if they wanted to. Snagging the collective or control stick can happen when exiting w/ engines running
You dumbass! That must have been the copilot being thrown out by centrifugal forces. I don't know what's so funny 'bout that, you asshole! I just hope that's gonna happen when you're sitting inside an aircraft one day. Let's see if you still think it's funny then!
Changing topic: Man, that guy walking there like nothing spectacular happens...man, he's got balls!
how stupid cant someone be to jump out of a crashing heli notice that both pilot and co pilot jumps out wille the helicopter still spining and remember that for the fact taht is a hy that doesent means that the pilots are american pilots as someone says in 1 post, is made in the us but the shit is flyng all aroun the world
IMHO it appears the acft suffered some kind of tail rotor failure (notice how slow it is spinning) resulting in this spectacular ending. Also the rear cross tube has been destroyed on the initial ground impact. Engine was still running, you can see the exahust after all motion stops.
At about 25 seconds, looks like someone jump out of the left side of the chopper and got struck by the blades, look close!! That could not have been minor injuries if this is so!!
That was a nice crash,I give it a 6.2.I really enjoyed the spinning and the dismount, but not enough flaming death for this judge. The onlookers didn't help, they looked like they see crashes everyday. So 6.2.
your an arse. Human lives most certainly would of been lost, and people injured in this crash. How could you rate this crash on how much it amuses you? Pilots and soldiers alike, fight and die for your freedom. Have a little more respect for the people out there risking there lives so you can sit on your fat ass at home making stupid comments on bad accidents.
This happened in vietnam. The pilot was trying to land in a hot LZ. So made his approach low and fast. Unfortunately he came in too fast into the muddy rice field. The skids sunk into the mud and snapped catapaulting the aircraft into a spin (you can see the skids hanging off after the imapct) it looks like the pilots done a good job in trying to recover and sort of managing to get it to come to a rest on its belly and not on its side. Only minor injuries to the crew
That wasnt vietnam, that was in Africa and it was an ex-U.S army huey but it was owned and operated by the African Police. also you can see the soldiers rifle a Heckler and Koch G3. Not even available to the US army in Nam. been reading Chicken Hawk?
Thats a nice fast assumption on somebody! (i love experts) Well if it is or isnt a G3a3, I'm curious to know how you came to the conclusion a G3 is short and stout?? a H&K G3 A3 rifle is 0.5" longer than a colt M16 A2.
A Colt M16 A2 is 1000mm exactly = 39.5"
A H&K G3 A3 is 1026mm exactly = 40.4"
I sugest you figure out what your talking about before you start a debate because now you look like a damn fool and clearly know nothing about firearms. Aint so smug no are ya dick head.
think he's talking about the end of the barrel, i know they are a very similar size, but the g3's barrel doesn't poke out of the hand rail as much as the m16.
My mistake, It was Western Columbia. On a traing mission by the local Police force who have the Helicopter. 2 hurt with minor Injurys. It caught fire aswell.
That was actually a UH-1 (model 205) made under contract by Agusta. You can tell by the tail rotor. The Bell helos have the tail rotor on the left side and Agusta had them on the right side. Other than that they are nearly identical.
