  • The sentiment is the important thing here. Don't get caught up in the small stuff. It's about the purest love one may ever know and experience.

  • The story is beautiful...But the narrator needs to calm down a bit.

  • @bostonlightsx the narrator isn't just a narrator, it's actually Robert Munsch who actually wrote the story so I think he's allowed to be as excited as he wants.

  • I can still hear my mom sing this song to me in my head...-3

  • I cannot read or hear this book without breaking down. This book is a perfect companion piece to The Giving Tree. The fact that the video is narrated by the author is always a plus in my opinion.

  • saddest thing ever

  • Ima put this book in my grave.

  • My mom just reminded me about this story, so I came on here and looked it up. I started crying as soon as it started because she always would read it to me.

  • When I have a kid I'm going to read him/her this book. <3

  • This book always makes me cry when I read it, and listening to it made me blubber like a baby. I have no idea where my copy of this has gone, but I need to find it. Amazing book.

  • I plan on mentioning part of this story on the day my son gets married

  • Thumbs up if Joey from Friends brought you here... Well, I think this is the story Joey read in that show.

  • my mom always sang the song a lot different

  • Wow what a bunch of fucking pussies even by Woman standards * I'm crying over a book * and for the 1 or 2 men that even teared you should get your fucking shit pushed in

  • @RebirthWoWGuild Your parents didn't love you...did they?

  • @RebirthWoWGuild Pretty tough words for somebody who evidently plays World of Warcraft...

  • @RebirthWoWGuild honestly, you dont belong on this page

  • I think this story should be read to all children and the fact that it's narrated by Robert Munsch made me cry all the hard at the end.

  • I sang that song a lot different...

  • I love him narrating this book. Reminds me of my childhood when he came to my school! He has the BEST book reading voice!

  • Robert Munsch wrote the song for his own babies, who were born dead.

When he finally was able to say the words out loud without crying, he wrote the song into this book. The book has sold millions of copies and touched the hearts of everyone I know.

If anyone should be the narrator, it should be him.

  • sounds like a bunch of stalking nutjobs...

  • Any of you who criticize Munsch's narration of this story should really read the story of how this book came to be. Heartbreaking.

  • :| my head hurts from this guy's narration-- lol smosh said it was creepy

  • I had this book when I was a kid. Loved this book! Now it's kinda creepy.

  • Creepiest story ever

  • Screw Morgan Freeman and this narrator, this book needs to be narrated by the calm voice of a woman.

  • Why is he so loud, I feel like he is ruining this sweet, soft mood of the story.. ass.

  • Love it especially since I needed it for a college essay!!! It made me miss my mom as well!!

  • Comment removed

  • lol

  • uh, all of his stories are told this way because they are meant to be silly, goofy, and very animated for 1st and 2nd graders and to help parents be goofy and laugh with their children. i bet if you read a story with this much animation to your small child, they would laugh like crazy. he's great.

  • It's sad but lol talk about creeper voice!!x)

  • i love this video

  • if you miss the way your mom read it to you then go fucking get her to read it to you again and stop complaining.

  • Goddammit. I cannot listen to this without laughing every 2 seconds.

  • OMG Please let a Mom read this!!

  • awww. this is very touching. :">

  • You're a shitty story teller...

  • "she would pick it up and rock it"

..... um... did he just call the baby an "it"

  • I remember this song from back when I was in 1st grade my grade sang it for a school concert. I've loved that song since I was little and I always will <3

  • That was definitely not the tune for the song that my mom used.

  • did you put the background music in.... its totally ruins it all.. fucking ruins it

  • I miss when my mom read this to me ..

  • this is soooo bad. i love this book. but i cannot listen to this.

  • this story means so much for me... its more than just a shallow whisper.. to me its deep.. I member first reading it on grade 1 when I use to live canada.. It holds memories... and hope... it actually brings tears to my eyes.....

  • My mother always sang this to me when I went to bed, <3

  • great book so a mother love never ends

  • creepy ass mom.

  • LOL I find it funny everyone is hating the narrator, but little do they know that the narrator is the author of the book.

  • @MrIdaCorr Doesn't make it nice to listen to.

  • @MrIdaCorr

theres a reason authors write their material, and aren't considered performers :P

  • wow can this narrator be any more of a douche bag

  • narrator fucking ruined it

  • BAAAACK AND FORTH BAAAAACK AND FORTH BAAAAAACK AND FORTH

  • It never ceases to amaze me the people who say this book "creeps them out". It's a simple story about the endless love a parent has for their child. That's it. Those who look any deeper into it - maybe you're the disturbed ones, for trying to find any different kind of meaning in it.

  • the guitar playing by Pat Methany is beautiful :)

  • I had this book, i love it!!! so many years ago.

  • OMG I remember being read this story when I was little! :O

  • I love this story -3!

  • I LOVE THE NARRARATOR he Has alot of Enthusiasm which is good. :D ;)

  • This makes me want to die

  • "Took things off the walls-BLAAAH" im sorry but im dying.

  • lmfao they baby grew and grew until it ran all around the house "GNEWW GNNEEWW!"

  • Holy shit this is creepy!!!! Couldn't we have gotten a woman to read. Lmao! Very funny though!

  • Kudos to the author for getting an opportunity to share this story in his own words! LOVE LOVE LOVE!

  • i Loved this when Joey Tribbiani (from Friends) read it dramatically =]

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, his voice was annoying, but the part about picking up the mom and rocking her made me cry.

  • This story is so sweet. It almost always makes me want to cry. My mommy would read this to me and my pre-school teacher would read it at mother's day events. I love this story and i will read this story to my kids someday too!!!

  • great!

  • @tierra1122tierra it's robert munsch who wrote the book and reading it for 5 year olds.

  • My mom used to read this to me every night...

  • this book still makes me cry every time i read it. but this guy ruins it...

  • @actingXownsXyou "this guy" is robert munsch. the author. a kids book legend.

  • Robert Munsch is simply the BEST!!!! He was my favourite author when I was little...so many great memories.

  • This guy is annoying. i remember listening to it growing up on a casset and i dont remember him being that annoying

  • That was seriously disturbing.

  • my best friend just told me about this book and he said that even to this day he cries. I love him.

  • I always thought this book was nice as a kid, but now I see it's creepy as fuck

  • He's weird!

  • I LOVED THIS BOOK, EVER SINCE I WAS A LITTLE KID IN FIRST GRADE. ALWAYS MADE ME CRY!

  • @victastic92 he doesnt make it sad

  • @koolgirl1235 LOL, I said the book was sad...towards the end, like bitter sweet...I couldn't even finish listening to this guy read...

  • BAAACK and forth BAAAACK and forth BAAACK and forth

He sounds like Red Hot Rider from Looney Tunes

  • Its CUTE! And obviously you didnt happen upon this page. I will always remember My Mom reading this book to me as a kid. . Its one of the only things that keeps me close to her sometimes. RIP Mom. I miss You...

  • This is the scariest fucking book I have ever seen. Seriously!? She sneaks into her sons house and rocks him back and forth singing? SERIOUSLY?! This mother has issues letting go. They should have added on saying "And that adult passed away in a car accident... and on nights when she was thinking about him, she would graaab a shovel, heaaad down to the grave yard, dig up his grave...." Jesus Christ.

  • omg that was awesome!

  • I love this book...We've read it at least a thousand times! And I agree," I always enjoy hearing an author reading his own work"! Thank you Robert, for a wonderful book, that helped me make many wonderful reading memories with my children.

  • It's not just you, he is too theatrical.

  • is it just me or does his voice ruin it? I'd prefer lyrics on screen

  • God dammit! I didn't even make it to teenager and already I'm crying

  • This was one of my favorite picture books growing up. I still have it on my bedside table and I read it whenever I need some comforting. I feel like it represents the love I felt in my childhood, and now that I am one month away from graduating high school and heading off to college soon on the other side of the country, I am extremely nostalgic. I will read this book to my children, and then to my grandchildren.

  • I read this to my daughter many years ago and now she has a newborn son, I will share it with her again. I always enjoy hearing an author reading his own work. Robert Munsch is in a class by himself. He cares most about the words because he created them. And using "it" is generic. The story can then apply to either sex.

  • Whoever said the reader is reading it wrong is so stupid. The person reading is the AUTHOR of the book. He WROTE it. He's reading it the way it was meant to be read. It's a great book.

  • The mother peeking over the side of the bed here looks like Mary Steenburgen.

  • Wow people are weird. The idea behind the story is that no matter how old you get your mom is always your mom, and the kid is always still the mom's little baby even as an adult. If you don't like his voice, don't listen to it. He read it wrong? It's his book. When you can read a book to kids that they like and want to read to their kids as an adult (this is how it is with me) then I'd say he got the point across quite well.

  • Maybe it's just me, but I feel like a chick should've read this

  • @0ldSandwich Yeah, I agree there....and the way the narrator sings the song doesn't help much with his case either >___<

  • Comment removed

  • @0ldSandwich Agreed, 100%

  • what a creeper. what if he was makin her a grandson?!!? LOL.

and he read the book wrong. annoying.

  • Dude, can Morgan Freeman narrate instead?

  • true

  • @EphemeralLight HAHAHA THAT WOULD BE SO AWESOME!!!!

  • i prefer joey as narrator.

  • Thank you for uploading this. This was one of my daughter's and my favorite stories, when she was young.

  • I've always said it's important to let kids know that their parents will get old and die.

  • One of my favorite Childrens books of all time but the narrator somewhat ruined it for me

  • @alltheotherpeople the writer/narrator of this wonderful book ruined it for you? the book was written for children and they love Craaaaazy story tellers and Robert Munsch understood that...which is why he is so successful. I remember at age 7 him coming to my school and telling us his wonderful crazy stories. We loved him and as and adult today... I still do :)

  • @alltheotherpeople same:(

  • this reading makes me happy. It reminds me of how my Maw-maw and my Mi-mi and mom would read this to me as a child. Even as a Child it would make me cry because I never wanted to leave and see the people I love get old. :(

  • despite his crazy reading, it just about made me cry

  • :D just like my mother used to sing to me :))

  • lol @ 0:50 took thingss of the wall-mbahhh xD

  • I love this story and I love Robert Munsch. He is a wonderful and gifted author for children and creates a happy world for them. This book is much sadder to me now that I am grown because of the fact that life is fleeting.

  • I always remember that the illustration at 1:08 kinda creeped me out when I was much younger.

  • hahaha, Joey read this in friends on Emma's first birthday

  • i think my mom reads this story better

  • @BabyPixie21 hes the stinking author

  • @randomnest11 okay? he should stick to writing

  • Excuse me, sir, but you need to CALM THE FUCK DOWN.

Your voice is driving me CRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZYYYYYYYYYYY!

  • @MajesticTOASTER excuse me you can at least appreciate something.thats his normal voice, dont tell him to calm the fuck down.

  • @janetnc95 Excuse me, but there was no reason to post that comment three times. You need to calm the fuck down. :)

  • @MajesticTOASTER excuse me you can at least appreciate something.thats his normal voice, dont tell him to calm the fuck down.thats his way of saying it.

  • @MajesticTOASTER excuse me you can at least appreciate something.thats his normal voice, dont tell him to calm the fuck down.thats his way of saying it.dont ever say that to robert munsch hes the best

  • WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

    WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

    :(

  • 4:54 onward always gets me every time :(

  • What's with all the complaints about Robert Munsch reading this story? I love listening to him read his stories. I've read this to my daughter since before she was born. Of course I had to change the words to suit the fact that this daddy has a little girl. But she and I still recite it. Last time I was sick she crawled into bed with me and started singing "I love you Forever" to me. Damned if she doesn't know how to make me cry.

  • what's with the weird narration lol. and that's some strong mother lol. i can't even try to imagine my mom trying to hold my brother. lol i think those days are more than over lol.
