  • Beautiful Job John would be proud

  • @benhenryp Thanks very much, he gave me his permission to do the song and got a chance to check it out and said he liked it. He has his original version on here also. It should be in the related videos.

    Thanks again!

  • Your voice and guitar are sounding great on this recording John. Very true to the original :) I learnt to play finger style guitar by learning this song. So good to find others who know and appreciate this song!

  • @timwilsononline Thanks very much, Tim, and I'm glad you liked my version. Have a great weekend!

  • I remember this song from long ago. I was a kid and my brother sang it at a party at my parents. I have never heard it since, didn't know who's song it was, just remembered some of the lyrics and how beautiful it was. I looked up the first line and here you were. I thought you were the originator... It wasn't until I read the comment that I realized you weren't the original singer. You really did the song justice. Now I can remember that time when I first heard it long long ago.. beautiful!

  • Thanks so much! I appreciate that and it's always cool when a particular song can take us back to a certain time in our lives and bring back good memories. JDR has his original version on YT, and it can be found in the related column. Thanks again!

  • John, you really do Mr.Read's music justice. I loved this song since John Dawson Read sung it years ago. I thank you for sharing with all of us. I thought ,I, my brother, and a friend Vicky was the only ones who knew that kind ballad. Thanks so, much. Thanks to Mr. Read ,too.

  • Thanks so much, Irishmick! I appreciate your kind words! It's such a great song and it was an honor to also recieve positive feedback from Mr. Read himself. The original version is also posted from John Dawson Read in the related videos section.

  • You did a great job on this my friend. One of my favorite songs ever

  • Thanks so much, Budman! John Dawson Read has a video of his original version on here if you want to see the man himself. Awesome performance!

  • MUCHAS GRACIAS POR SUBIR ESTA MÚSICA DESDE SAN SEBASTIAN, ESPAÑA, thanks from spain

  • Denada, and muchos gracias to you also!

    I appreciate that!

  • thank you,, this brings up a lot of memories,,,I would only hear this song listening to WORJ out of Mt. Dora during the early/mid seventies,,,the old free form radio days. Never new who did it,,now i do, thanks again.

  • I have been a great fan of John Dawson Read for a long time. I was astonished to hear you sing this song. So faithful to the original, I can easily believe it is original. I like another of his songs called Superficial Things. Great to see other fans of my favourites.

  • Thank you so much for the kind words! I did try and sing it in the same style as John Dawson Read. So glad you enjoyed it!

  • Heard your recording again of this one and Good Living. Can scarcely believe it isn't the real one. You sure are more than just a namesake of John. Would really like to hear you sing Rain and Superficial Things. Is it possible to put them up too ? That would be a collection even to make JDR proud, wherever he may be.

  • fantasic for sure!

  • Thanks so much! I appreciate that!

  • Beautiful song, well done.

    Hebbe

  • You sound great, it's too bad more people don't know his song. I remember it from the 70's and was just thinking of it. Took me a while to figure out that you were not the original singer. It's a great song of empathy and we all need to re enforce that in ourselves now

  • Thanks so much, Iceman! I appreciate that a lot!

  • 5***** your Fan from Germany/Swiss ;-)

  • John,

This is beautiful, beautiful stuff and you sing it very well. I first heard this tune back in the early 70s when I was an undergrad and I remember walking around along for a good part of the day just thinking about it. Thanks for bringing that back to me. Thom

  • Thanks so much, I appreciate that and I'm sure JDR does too. I remember the whole album just blew me away back then. I do another song by John called, "Good living," if you ever want to check it out. Thanks again, Thom!

  • This song made me close my eyes and see what you were singing. It was so clear!

  • I posted a Thankyou but it didn't go through. So I try again. THANKYOU so much for answering my e-mail to you about this beautiful song + the splendid job you did with it. Sight we take for granted, Stevie Wonder had a chance to Possibly get his sight back, but he chose NO. Can't you imagine the reverse, getting sight you lived without for so many years. Bet that would be a scary thing. You'ed have no idea what things LOOKED LIKE-unless you Felt it. WeW! It would be ALL NEW! Soulful voice.LOL

  • So sweet of you to e-mail back.WOW! You are a great soul.I know I will get through this but it lets you know LIFE is short do not spend the time fighting + HATE-EN. The song just struck a chord with me + it was sung so well + May you sing many more. Music just transends all barriers + you proved this by touching our hearts that a friend was loosing something so special. Stevie Wonder had a chance to SEE but he chose to stay in his world, I counldn't imagine how your brain would react.WOW!LOL

  • This is a beautiful song,+ you sing it beautifully + play the guitar lovly too. I am so glad I pulled up your vidio. I will say your friend allowing you to sing it was smart because you did him proud the way you sang. It made me think of my mommy she is loosing her sight, she had been a grand mom and I ask God why she should lose her sight, she was a wonderful parent + to lose her sight when she loved to read the Bible, didn't miss a day reading it, why would He allow her to not see??Thanks!

  • Thank you, Nancy. I'm sorry to hear about your mom, but she is lucky to have a caring daughter like you to help her through it.
